Samuel Malavsky sings Riboin Hoilomim

Died: 1985
Cantor Samuel Malavsky was devoted, since childhood, to his cantorial art. By the time of his Bar Mitzvah he was a full-fledged professional Cantor. He toured all the major cities in Russia. Shortly before his eighteenth birthday he emigrated to New York where he became an apprentice to the well-known Cantor Yossele (Joseph) Rosenblatt. The two of them gave concert tours throughout the United States. They also made many outstanding liturgical recordings.
In the following years Cantor Malavsky enjoyed great popularity due to his brilliant performances at the pulpit and the concert stage. The Malvasky Family Choir includes the cantor's four daughters (known as the Four Chazentes) and his two sons. The cantor developed his children's musical talents from an early age which allowed him to create a Family Choir comprised of six accomplished and outstanding vocalists.

to me cantor Malavsky is the greatest cantor ever born,he sings with such passion,such articulation,what a voice.every time I hear him ,he makes me cry,and usualy i don't cry so lightly.he will be remembered for a millenia.it's like the angels of God touched him.I am sure he sings to God in heaven,and God enjoys him.because he gave him that gift.

I was about 12 in 1960, when Chazzan Malavsky and children conducted Days of Awe services at the New Irvington Hotel in Lakewood, New Jersey. Alas, I was too young to really appreciate them and their folksy arrangements. I do remember "HaYom!" (today [is the day of self-examination]). A dozen years ago, I found a cassette album with a Yiddish version of the Fier Kashes (4 Questions). But that and the equipment on which to play it lost in a move. Awesome chahzanuet.

Little do we know it, but Chazzun Malavsky was at one time a Hoiz Buchur of Yosselle Rosenblatt. Yosselle took him under his wing and we have a duo of them singing Umipeni Chatoeinu.

החזן שמואל מלבסקי נולד בעיירה סמילא (Смела) שבקרבת קייב, בדרום-מערב האימפריה הרוסית (כיום אוקראינה) בשנת 1894. כבר באוקראינה נודע כילד פלא וזכה לכינוי "שמוליק'ל מסמילא". בשנת 1914, בהיותו בן 20, היגר לארצות הברית, שם פרש עליו את חסותו החזן המפורסם יוסל'ה רוזנבלט, בביתו גר כשמונה שנים. מלבסקי החל את דרכו בקהילה אורתודוקסית ברובע בנסונהרסט בברוקלין, ניו יורק, לאחר מכן בקהילת "מגן אברהם" בדטרויט, וכן התפלל בבורו פארק. הוא הקליט פרקי חזנות בליווי אורגן וללא מקהלה, ואף הקליט ארבעה דואטים עם מורו ורבו רוזנבלט. רוזנבלט אף הכיר לו את אשתו לעתיד - הפסנתרנית הארייט (אַלטֶה).
שמואל מלבסקי התאפיין בקול שתואר כרחב, חם ורווי רגש. הוא ניחן בכישרון הלחנה ואלתור, ורבות מיצירותיו נמנות עם הקלאסיקות של עולם החזנות.

You commanded us to bring the (two) daily (animal) sacrifices in the temple at its appointed time.
Additionally, the priests are to perform their temple service, the Levites at song, and the lay people
attentively standing as audience.
But now on account of our sins, the temple is destroyed and the daily sacrifices abolished
We don't have no priest at service, no Levite at song, and the populace not in attendance
But you said "The words of your mouth shall be in sacrifices stead",
Therefore the will should be before thee, my Master, our God and the God of our ancestors,
that our lips' expressions be as important, acceptable, and convincing before thee
as if we brought the daily sacrifice at the proper time, place, and procedure.
