    Thank you! Thought for a sec I'd damaged that antenna after all. But the fault was that I hadn't pressed the pop clip down hard enough! When I did, everything worked! I managed to assemble the unit without breaking anything - it's not a perfect fit at the edges, but it's good enough. I'm not a professional but nobody repairs them in Sweden. Alternative would have been to pay 400 EUR to Microsoft and send off the unit to Germany and have a refurbished one returned. Doing the repair myself was better alternative. I succeeded thanks to your video!

    I have an SP5, will never buy this kind of thing again. Battery dying, less than 2 yrs old. Not really replaceable. NO DEVICE should be this difficult to service. These things should have case screws. Yes I've cracked open modern phones that are nearly as bad, but this thing is about the worst. And I have yet to see anyone post a battery replacement vid. Apparently the battery is glued across it's entire back side. The whole situation is ridiculous. $1200 device that can brick at any time, irreparable.

    • @aldu02
      @aldu02 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, has a similar issue but in my case the battery was swolen and it broke the screen off. Total piece of crap, microsoft said if I give them the old one + 300 usd they give me a new piece of crap, but that would be wasting 300 usd IMO.

    • @fisicauniversitaria
      @fisicauniversitaria 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totalmente de acuerdo. Es lo PEOR que he visto. La batería sale fácilmente si ponemos un poco de quitaesmalte de uñas, con una jeringuilla, por debajo de la batería. Estas baterías son MUY peligrosas, jamás usar elementos metálicos para quitarlas, si se perforan se prenden fuego y es mejor salir corriendo.

    @FixItPlanet1 You didn't talk about the digitizer...? Does it have to have conductivity to the back of the screen? I cleaned the back of my digitizer so there is no old adhesive on it.... Will using a two-sided tape prevent it from working properly? Do I need to use a conductive adhesive?

    Yeah I've done a few of these now and it's basically a craps shoot whether or not the antennas will rip off or not. There's adhesive on both sides of the antennas so it's incredibly difficult to get the antennas to separate from the screen but stay on the case. PITA.

    Good Evening, I have no backlight after performing the LCD + Digitizer Assembly replacement. The screen does display everything all the way to the desktop (while booting up). However, you have to hold it at a certain angle in light to see anything. The display is very dim. I connected the old display back up to the Surface and experienced the same result. I did this to rule out a defective replacement display. Do you have any suggestions?

    I just followed your video today and got the glass all off, however on the antennas I have a question, please. I see where the glass made a small indent and on the other the edge looks torn a little. If I send a picture can you tell me if it will work or if I should not bother getting a new screen? My husband bought this for me and I only had it a few weeks when I dropped it. No warranty because it was a discount at best buy and we got a deal. I found your video and decided to give it a go at fixing it myself and so far so good except for the above question. Thank you.

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is torn just a little it will most likely still work but signal reception may be reduced. A minor dent is not a big deal. I would just replace the screen and test before sealing it up. See how well it works and make a judgment then. Doesn't sound too bad.. :)

    Is there any way to test the display to make sure that it's working? I have a Surface where the screen cracked & was still working, I tried 2 different screens & I can touch the screen & see that the digitizer is sensing my hand when I hook up a monitor to the display port. I've purchased a new digitizer & 2 new ribbon cables in hopes that this would solve my issue. I've replaced several other screens on different surfaces without this issue. I can't figure out if I damaged something on the surface to prevent the screen from showing up. I guess I might have to take apart a working surface & test out these 2 screens unless someone knows of any other way.

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your screen flickers just try testing the tablet with a known good screen. Even though the Pro 5 screen will work and fit on a Pro 4 the display cable is different and there is no reason to substitute a 5 screen for a 4.

    i want to share with you a unique a rare and unique case which you can take'it as a chalange: using a Microsft Surface Probook since new and from the begining were problems even with the phisical keyboard or usb , simple not working. Each time after a factory reset always started to work perfect. All this till one day when navigating the surface got stuck. I turned off and from that moment (1 years ago) till present i can not acces my laptop because is impossible to type the laptop password as :
    - phisical keyboard is not working
    - the touch screen keyboard is not showing up
    - the other option "on screeen keyboard" when you touch'it everything becames blocked and need to re-start.
    Also note that:
    - USB is not working and i can not reset the windows
    - the only way when i can type something is in the BIOS "the security question" using the touch keyboard.
    I tryed to reset'i using the power and volume (more than 100 times) and is not working.
    Anyone have any ideea ? Solution ?

      Yeah.. My Surface Pro 4 screen just one day started getting ghost touches and then after a while the entire screen became not responsive to touch. This was completely random.. I like the device, but it's just say seeing how microsoft doesn't want to deal with these faulty screens and how hard it actually is to repair it yourself. I've found out that my surface has a 2015 version of the display which apparently was faulty when manufactured, but microsoft still doesn't want to deal with anyone who has problems.

    Hi Fixit, I've watched your video several times now... I've got to replace the charging port on my surface pro 5, it got wet and burnt the contacts out. I can't find anybody in the uk to do this repair but I reckon I've as good a chance as any. Do you have any advice on which exact place to start prying the screen away from the body? I'll use a heat gun and plastic tools. Do I have any chance of getting the screen off without breaking it iyo? thanks for the vid

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Believe it or not I've done it, but It is very difficult to remove the screen without damaging it. I would be prepared to replace that as well. You can start prying anywhere around the edge except for the bottom left corner and save the top for last, go slowly, and pay close attention. The antennas at the top will tear easily. Also the bottom left corner is where the digitizer controller board resides. Those cables are very close to the edge, you only have about 2.30mm clearance...So don't insert your tools too far or you will damage those cables. You might also find some useful info in a new video th-cam.com/video/aMGikVXxdBY/w-d-xo.html It's an SP 4 but closely related. Cheers!

      Thanks for the reply and advie. Seems the screens are only £150 new on ebay.... Even if I do have to replace the screen, it's still way cheaper than MS out of warranty repair at £400.
      Low heat I'm guessing if you don't want to fry the screen?? Cheers again!

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem. As far as heat goes... don't leave it in one place for too long keep moving it around. Temp just depends on how far away the source is and size of the nozzle etc. Happy repairing!

    • @1973donantonio
      @1973donantonio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey again. Well.... started at one of the speaker holes, all went well for about 15 seconds, then smashed the screen! Ah well. Nightmare and then I pretty much broke it all the way round, except for the top. At any rate, all the broken glass off and all the black stickystuff, nothing damaged (apart from dang screen). I kept turning it on by mistake, but having the windows welcome sound was very useful, cos then I waited for it and then held down power for 20 secs to turn off again
      So thanks lots for the vid because without it I would have messed it up reeeeeaaaaalllllll bad!!
      Final question: are all the oem replacement screens on ebay more or less the same?? Some have wildly different prices but none are "orig" parts. Cheers bud

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The screens are fine (usually) and come from the same places in China regardless of who's selling them. Just make sure the return policy is sufficient in case you need to return a defective screen. Don't seal it up until your sure it's good. Cheers

    What temperature is your heat gun set to?

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on what type of tool your using. A regular heat gun has at least a high and a low setting. If your using a hot air station then you can adjust the temp more accurately. Mainly distance, airflow, and thermal mass are critical to deciding what temp to use.

    Dear I want to consult you: I replaced the screen of my surface 5 pro 1796 with another of the same P / N, it was working very well for a whole day, after a win10 update, coincidentally the touch no longer works. I restored the Windows as factory, I also tried booting in UEFI mode and the touch no longer works, it is inoperative.
    I have my doubts:
    1- When did Windows also update the firmware of the touch control board, is the firmware incompatible?
    2- When the touch is connected or disconnected, the screen always works ok.
    3- I have installed two screens and the same thing happens, after Windows is updated, the touch no longer works.
    The screens I have bought from aliexpress, they are reconditioned.

      NO, never do that. I have a surface pro 4 and the screen is awful. I've actually considered replacing the screen with a surface pro 5 one, because it's possible and the screen itself is a much higher quality than the SP4 one. The surface pro 4 screens are the worst screens you can get, they have an insanely high failiure rate because they're really poor quality. I'm lucky that my surface pro 4 screen has only the touch layer dead, so I can't use the touch to interact with the device, but atleast it still works with keyboard.. Many people with SP4 had straight up the entire screen die without doing anything to it.. It's just a very bad screen in general

    does not turn on. I think this is due to the resistor powering the processor. where is it to change it.

    Your garbage Surface 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and the next of them, does your screen went dead?! Well... I have bad news for you.
    My Surface Pro 7 went dead, turns on only if left to cool down...
    but I have some bad news for you, it's a hardware issue, Microsoft knows about it, but they don't care, it's a marketing thing.
    On the right side of the screen, just a little down below the right speaker, it's a magnetic microswich that is being triggered by a magnet in the keyboard, it doesn't matter if keyboard is attached or not, the magnetic sensor it's underneath the LCD, so... The tablet in time heats up, the battery slowly expands due to the heat and wear out of the battery... This battery expansion puts pressure on the motherboard, the sensor it's on the motherboard we're just above I mentioned about it, this expansion it's enough to trigger the magnetic sensor as there's the keyboard close to the screen, so the tablet won't turn on, the tablet thinks that the keyboard is close to the LCD, so it's made to not turn the screen on, if obviously the keyboard is closed. In fact the tablet is on, but no light on LCD.
    Probably even if taken apart, most likely you won't be able to find a new switch, it's pretty much same concept as the light inside your fridge, but this sensor it's digital, not just analog.
    They packed way to many things in such a small enclosure, maybe 1mm more thickness would have saved the situation...
    Yes, you can most likely relate this issue with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 from a few years ago, remember those when they use to burst in flame? Was because of the battery expansion, but had nowhere to expand.
