BUT I found white people grew up ( I did) with radio and did not know the colour of the artists .I am the wrong side of 76...
I’m white and 59 but when I was a teenager I listened to allot of black singers, EW&F, temptations, Marvin Gaye, etc. my brother walked by my room one night and said I swear I believe you have some black in you because you listen to allot of black musicians. 😂😂. I said I listen to anything that’s real and has soul. Love my music.

Perfectly stated. I don't care about color or genre. For me, it's about seeing him shatter people's expectations of what they think they are going to hear.
There have been many crossover musicians in recording history. But I've never heard of another artist where it's truly hard to lock them into any genre like Chris.
His appeal is universal. When people hear Tennessee Whisky or see his Austin City Limits performance or even the CMA performance with Justin Timberlake they instantly become fans. He's transcended the country genre because he's so much more than that.

I'm here 2 years later to say that his wife sounds just as amazing, her voice compliments his voice beautifully, and the live version of him singing with his wife is even more amazing, as a matter of fact all the live versions song twice as better.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this reaction. And I can't tell you how many more times I'll watch it again cuz it's one of my faves. The first time i heard this song i was so blown away i listened several times. Later, I googled the song only to be disappointed it wasn't Stapleton 's own but a cover. So i looked up the original and listened and Oh! Em! Gee! There as NO comparison! Chris Stapleton took this song with already great lyrics and turned it into his very own. I don't care how many more covers come off it,it'll never get better than this. The original singer would've been proud.

I recently discovered Chris Stapleton, too. I'm not a fan of country music, but I am a fan of the blues and a friend told me about Chris. I almost fell off my chair the first time I heard this song. Amazing. Chris is my new favorite country blues artist.

I play drums in a country band and had never heard this song before. During one of our sets, we had a guest guitarist and he walked me through the beat before playing this song live. Hearing this song for the first time while playing it live with an insanely talented guitarist/singer was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had playing live music. Since then I had looked u the song and loved it even more. Thanks for this. It almost brings me to tears to relive the memory and marvel at the amazing singing and playing of the original. I love love love this man. I fell in love with his voice and then I went through some really hard times and he was the only one that got me through it. I always watch people react to this song and I was wrong and also sometimes I cry but people need to check out "the last thing I needed first thing this morning" and "nobody's lonely tonight". They are also great songs....
