Who's the GOAT is very hard to determine since there are so many different styles and techniques to be proficient at. It's an extremely subjective matter of discussion. Therefore Les is not the GOAT, however, he is an amazing bass player with a very defined unique sound. Truly amazing.
Yah man, this was early-90s. Les Claypool is one of the gods of avant-garde bass playing. That 6-string fretless is a unique custom-made instrument, see also “Jerry was a Race Car Driver” for fretboard tapping madness He shreds on a 4 string too, check out “John the Fisherman”
I've been a Primus (Pry-mus) fan since '92 and would have seen them my 30th time this summer if not for COVID. If you want them to blow your mind, you should react to Fish On (the Fisherman's Chronicles pt II). His bass is a custom fretless 6-string made by Carl Thompson, dubbed The Rainbow Bass.
Les Claypool is pretty well known for having a more midrange sound on his bass and using Piccolo pickups. If you want to hear him digging deep into the low end listen to My Name its Mud.
lol I mentioned this to my brother the other day Les Claypool is his own genre you can type Les Claypool into pandora and thats all you'll get aside from some Tool and i did have cypress hill pop up the other day.
Les also has other projects to check out including: Sausage, Les Claypool and the flying frog brigade, Highball with the devil(one of my personal favs) and so many more. He even tried out for Metallica after Burton died(I believe) before forming Primus But they told him he was "too wild" for their sound LOL!
I would say his bass has a different sound on each album. You checked out Seas of Cheese check out the song my name is mud off pork soda or john the fisherman off FrizzleFry
Les' signature bass is indeed a six string. However, Les' talents do not end there. he is a multi instrumentalist including and not limited to drums, percussion, upright bass, guitar, and many others. And for future reference the band is called Pr-eye-mus. This song was written in the early 90's.
IT's is so nice to see the original video in this reaction. I mean, this is when every band/act would make a video and this channel called Music Television would play music video's. I know! What a crazy idea! Right? And the video's were representing the actual song they made; weird huh?
Great to ear some Primus, been awhile, one of the best bass ever, if it doesnt look perfect its because LesClaypool, does what he want like he want, i personnaly love their song Mr Krinkle
I love, LOVE Primus! It's funny, cuz you either love Primus are you hate them. It's always been polarizing. Years ago, they had a billboard on the west side of Manhattan, it was to promote their new upcoming album. And the billboard simply stated that: "If you hated Primus before Oh, you probably still will." And underneath that was the members of Primus dressed as penguins. Epic. At the beginning of every live Primus concert, the crowd always cheers, maniacally and wildly: "PRIMUS SUCKS, PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!" Over and over until Primus takes the stage. Upon which Les Claypool announces to the crowd: "Good evening everyone, we are Primus, and yes we suck!!" It's just the kind of warped inside sense of humor they share with their fans. When they are on point, they are at their best oh, you won't see anything like it. Les Claypool on bass and either one of their drummers, they're both amazing in their own way, are sick. And topped by the controlled chaos emanating from Larry Lalonde's Guitar.
They came out with a remixed version of the album this is on Sailing The Seas of Cheese and they turned the bass up in the new mix. This video is the original mix.
My goal was always to be as good as Les. Not even my style of playing, but I wanted to be that bad a**. He's in a whole class all himself, he's out in the stratosphere
Les bass style is a loaded mid signal You mix that with the baddest of Drummers and Ler on guitar it’s just a massive percussive assault that very unique in person Long story short it was made to crank up very load in your ride with 2 or more 10’s and a lot of mid range big mag speakers .what it is cosmic funk thrash comic metal They are their only genre I do respect how you would mix this but trust me this is “there sound “ mixed to hit you in the sternum unbelievably in person I seen you reacted to Damn Blue Collar Tweakers that was his 4 string Carl Thomson it has more lows than the 6 string rainbow bass regardless I love gear and how people use the equipment take care have a good weekend
Les Claypool is the bass GOAT. You shouls definitely do more Primus.
My boy tony levin would like a talk with you, lmao. But yes, les is certainly one of the best.
I second that!

@@MonsieurKonthaar No literally, he's genetically crossbred with a goat. That's why he looks like that.
Love Les, but my nod goes to Victor Wooten
CLASSIC
"She came slidin' down the alleyway like butter drippin' off a hot biscuit"
Fun fact: He's actually playing a 6 strings FRETLESS bass! That's how weird Les Claypool actually is
Yah man, this was early-90s. Les Claypool is one of the gods of avant-garde bass playing. That 6-string fretless is a unique custom-made instrument, see also “Jerry was a Race Car Driver” for fretboard tapping madness
He shreds on a 4 string too, check out “John the Fisherman”
Why the fret markers look weird on this bass? They’re like different sizes randomly
It was supposed to be fretted, but Les changed his mind mid construction.
@@redgunnit
And filled the fret slots with veneers of different woods
Primus sucks, yeah! Love this band.
Most people consider him one of the best bass players of all time
That one is a fretless six string, and he does a lot of muting
Honest question, not use to anything fretless. It looks like it has frets, are those just fret markings for placement?
@@tylerzaker7581 when he had it made, he asked for markers to see when on stage, those are pearl inlays

seen them 3 times..epic
if you count frog brigade
He sings this and plays it on bass at the same time. Insane
Love the vid man intro was awesome
The hardest working channel on TH-cam, right here. Right on Mike.
Les Claypool tends to mute a lot, almost using the bass like a percussive instrument at times.
Everything about Primus is nothing but pure fun and joy to play and to listen to.
That was the funkiest intro to a video I've ever seen. Amazing.
Dude, that intro alone makes me a fan!
PRIMUS - Over the falls.
Yes! More Primus! Ill take any song!
Les Claypool is pretty well known for having a more midrange sound on his bass and using Piccolo pickups. If you want to hear him digging deep into the low end listen to My Name its Mud.
This song is BASS TO THE MAX live and in person, one of the greatest
Still impressed that they got Tom Waits to do the vocals for the cat!
You absolutely have to check Primus out LIVE!!! Les is amazing!!
Tom Waits is a Legend... oh yeah, he's doing the Tommy bits you're welcome Respect & Peace
Dude definitely needs to check out the live Bonnaroo version. Freaking love this song.
I’ve been loving this band ever since I started hearing of them
Primus is the only band that had it's own separate genre in mp3 id tags, and it's earned
lol I mentioned this to my brother the other day
Les Claypool is his own genre
you can type Les Claypool into pandora and thats all you'll get aside from some Tool and i did have cypress hill pop up the other day.
Primus live video of any song is priceless ! The best bass player ever ! Besides you of course ! 🤘😁🤘
Les also has other projects to check out including: Sausage, Les Claypool and the flying frog brigade, Highball with the devil(one of my personal favs) and so many more. The guitar solo is great but that bass! Bro that bass! That's the slickest bass I've ever heard!
Les' signature bass is indeed a six string. However, Les' talents do not end there. he is a multi instrumentalist including and not limited to drums, percussion, upright bass, guitar, and many others. And for future reference the band is called Pr-eye-mus. This song was written in the early 90's.

You don't have to react to it, but when you get a chance watch the live version at Bonaroo, it's awesome!
when i saw the title i was thinking to myself, Please be the live bonaroo version, he would have REALLY enjoyed that
The live version on Rhinoplasty is great too
Jillys on smack at bonaroo where plays that elec. Stand up bass....amazing
I love your air guitar. You’d never know you play by watching it. 😆 But you kill it!
This is my new favorite reaction channel.
Thanks man!
are you kidding??? this song is 30 yrs old!! you make it sound like it was a few yrs old....the bassplayer is a legend...
Les wrote it in 1984
Trinidad California...6 string fretless bass...bow to a legend.
That was one bad ass bass intro for the video, my guy. Also I love this song.
Just getting into this content..... too many puppies is a great primus song.
I remember having my mind blown, when I realized that Tommy the Cat is Tom Waits
Guy picks up bass during intro....subscribed
love the way you play bass man! that intro was sick
Finally, the les claypool rabbithole has begun excavation
Richmond, Indiana... The birthplace of recorded jazz
Primus just led me to your channel and I’m digging it, totally a guy I would kick it with!
Appreciate it!
When you hear that bass sound, that's Les. That's why he stands out.
From Kansas city, Les Claypool is a genius
Great to ear some Primus, been awhile, one of the best bass ever, if it doesnt look perfect its because LesClaypool, does what he want like he want, i personnaly love their song Mr Krinkle
This song is head-bobbing goodness
I’m new to this channel- your intro is insane!! Has to be the best into on TH-cam swear to god, also saucy on the bass
That's basically what everyone looks like trying to play air bass to Primus.
Usually I hate when a channel has a 90 second intro
Not this time. That was a brilliant intro
Les Claypool is the GOAT
That intro was great
im from chile , and the intro is fireeeeee !!
Wn sabes como se llama la animación de fondo? se que es una serie xd
@@RANRINSET es de los animadores de ren y stimpi , ellos hicieron el video
The Bass is the main instrument in Primus, way before Guitar. That’s why it sounds so médium
That was nice playing man. Perfect intro to a Les Claypool song.
Great intro. I dig it
Les also has the single string bass. But yes, he’s the Goat!
Live version will blow your mind.

6 string flatwounds on a fretless
You need to do a Primus deep dive like you've done with Rammstein
BASS
You had to "search" for this? He is from your country god damn it
Outrageous.
This band is so weird but I love it for that
Primus! EXCELLENT. Best bassist around. Goofballs but they lay it down 💪
That song live is amazing
You have to check out Primus - American Life. The Bass line is SICK!!!!!!!!
1991 I think. Things weren't mixed with as much bass back then. They punched it up on later recordings. Check out Laquerhead or My Friend Fats.
They came out with a remixed version of the album this is on Sailing The Seas of Cheese and they turned the bass up in the new mix. This video is the original mix.
Funktabulous, From Doha, Qatar getting my Primus Fix
They don't know nuthin about the "Low-End" Mike !
Tell 'em , ( drummer /percussionist) here from Sin City
Primus - to defy the laws of tradition
Six strings fretless bass!!

If you like bass you have to do more Primus. A live version of My Name Is Mud. :)
Nice playing son!

Primus sucks!!!! Their different but a whole lot of talent on that stage lead and drums too!!! Love your reaction😊
Primus is godlike
You got that right
