    The Lyfe Tyme vertical smoker section runs at 150 with everything open for clean smoke. The Horizontal section on the same unit runs at 275-300. Mine is over 20 years old and solid as the day it came off the assembly line. Baffles are recommended as they do vary from end to end.

    Thanks to this video, I am about to pull the trigger on a Bell Fabrication Back Yard Grill custom offset smoker. For anyone interested the lead time is now 10 weeks rather than the 3 weeks mentioned in the video. The cost is still $700 for the 2'x3' without customizations. Craig is willing to customize the cylindrical firebox with a lid and grilling grate, which is what I am looking at getting.

    I live in TX and work at HEB. We sell the Lyfe Tyme at my store, and they are built like a tank. The Old Country smokers aren't in the same league. I wouldn't turn down an Old Country, but the Lyfe Tymes are much nicer.

    I just finished my first cook with the old country dlx. First off... you get a tuning plate, singular. The cooker is badass. I purchased the old country thermometer, it is not great, but works. I cooked wings, leg quarters, pork ribs, and Canadian goose breast. Everything turned out great. Pecan splits over an initial mesquite lump charcoal. I watched this thing the whole time.... first cook and all.

    Maybe add another point of comparison - the location of the exhaust stack port. Is it at grill level, or up at the top of the chamber? Nearly all high-end smokers have the stack port at grill level, since it provides more even heat throughout the cook chamber and better convection across the meat.

    I live in Texas and have owned 2 old ocbb; a pecos and wrangler. I recently took a trip to the Frio river and smoked 2 briskets and 3 racks of ribs on a lyfe tyme. the build quality absolutely blew any ocbb i've seen out of the water. Im actually in the market for a lyfe tyme now, because of this.

    I have had my lyfe tyme 13 years. Have treated it like total crap, not cleaned it and never protected it. I have burned out multiple grates in the fire box from tons of use but I would expect another 10 years out of it more if I actually took care of it.

    Thank you for all your great videos! I'm about a year or so away from looking into investing in a huge up-grade from a small and very thin New Braunfels Smoker. I've been researching alot and your info. is very valuable. OCB has been my top pick, but I'm not crazy for the gamble on the possibility of poor welds. I do have a wildcard that I think might over take the OCB. Its called Texas Longhorn BBQ Pits out of Uvalde. Another wildcard is one out of the San Antonio area called Helotes Pits.

    Been researching smokers. Your videos have been a really helpful addition and I appreciate the info. Just wanted to say that I went to both Academy and HEB to look at these. I was more impressed with the LyfeTyme. It's a much better quality imo. (There were also more of them and in different models than the 3 Old Country's at Academy.) I will say though that those beasts should have counterweights on them and I didn't care for the wooden handles bc they won't last.

    I’ve had my Lyfe Tyme vertical stack, single lid 16x32 for about 10 years now. Absolutely love it. Live in San Antonio Tx so I bought mine at HEB. The build quality is great. It took 5 HEB employees to load it on my trailer so it’s super heavy. One thing you didn’t mention is there’s a bar welded across the top of the vertical stack. You take out the three grates and you can hang chicken, ribs, and sausages in the chamber. Great video! 👍🏼

    I noticed a few mistakes I made. When comparing the DLX and Lyfetyme double lid I quoted the DLX's price with tax instead of with shipping. I also abbreviated circle with an S. for the Lyfetyme 16x32.

    Does the old country brazos dlx leak smoke like the original brazos?

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question. The answer is probably. But it is nothing I would worry about too much. Some builders make a big deal out of their flanging. The thing about smokers is that if there aren't any major holes around door edges, the heating and expansion of the metal as well as the accumulation of grease and soot will seal them up as they are used after a few cooks. You can always add an extra gasket if you want (I don't recommend this on the firebox though - doesn't last long).
