  • Thanks for stopping by to watch this Old Country BBQ Pits video. We'll take a first look and review of the offset smoker I recently bought. The Pecos smoker is much like the Old Country BBQ Pits Brazos Smoker other than the steel being a bit thinner. This BBQ pits is well put together and great for backyard barbecue and more. FYI, most of the splits I saw on the bottom shelf appear too big for this smoker (was for mine anyway, and is for others I've seen discussed on line). I take a normal sized split (pretty much what you had there) and split it into 3-4 separate splits. This unit runs much better on smaller splits.
    After experimenting with several different ways to run a fire, I put a cast iron fireplace grate in the bottom of my firebox. Runs like a charm now, much better than the other ways I tried and 100 times better than the firebox plate it came with.. Might be worth you looking into.

    • @SaltPepperFire
      @SaltPepperFire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Danny, I appreciate the commentary. Those splits are from a recent cut. I just put them there in hopes to speed up the process. I really interested in the cast iron grate. Where did you purchase yours? I’d like to look into it. Again, I appreciate you checking out the video.

      @@SaltPepperFire Thanks bud, always good to chat with fellow smokers. I got one off of Amazon for I think about $20 or so. You can find them at most farm supply stores as well, Tractor Supply, Rural King, etc. My local Ace Hardware has them too. You will find a greater number of variety and styles though on Amazon, but if you have one of the stores I mentioned above nearby you should be able to pick one up fairly cheaply. I also added a smoke stack extension this weekend as I ran a really hot fire in my smoker for about 2 hours for a pre-spring burnout. It really helped the draw. I haven't cooked with it yet but it should lend to being able to cook even better with it.

    I just bought the Old Country Pecos. Have not cooked on it yet,but I'm chopping at the bit to fire it up and cook some ribs. I have already extended the smoke stack and sealed the lids. Thinking about removing the damper and replacing the grate in the bottom of the firebox.

    • @SaltPepperFire
      @SaltPepperFire  ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard remorse damper was just a trend doesn’t not necessary but I haven’t researched it yet. However I think you’ll really enjoy the Pecos. It’s a great smoker in my opinion
