I slightly-preferred the Boss, but the Nux sounded very acceptable. (they are making some great stuff) . I have the Boss DD-500 and it is an incredible unit. Most pedals these-days are very advanced. Even the Mooer stuff is very impressive. Enjoyed your comparison.
Nice!!! Technology is reaching its peak. I remember the space echo being more hi-fi than anything before it. As the tape aged, the fidelity would reduce. The boss sounds more like the original with the knobs and function in the same places. The nux sounds (GOOD) to me and very useful, l like the size for a smaller pedal board. The boss sounds beautiful much like the volante. And close to the real space echo.
The Nux is actually more transparant. The 202 sound spectrum is like RE20 w too much artificial sounding mid-highs around 1-3kHz poking your ears. Not at all like a real Roland tape echo. Those who say it does either dont know or are trying to sell you something. Anyway, a real pity as the way the effects reacts to the incoming signal is better than the Nux. I sold my RE20 and chose not to go for the 202 after finding out it had the same EQ issues. A missed opportunity by Boss.
I have the RE-20 since a long time and like it a lot for what(ever) it is doing whether it sounds like the real thing or not - so based on that, I don't feel like I need an upgrade such as the 202, since the difference it not that big, would you agree?
@Dave Davies i have owned several different units (maybe 5 or so). The re301 that I had, with a specific tape, had the same chorusy sound on feedback. It might be a defect from that combination of tape/machine, but it’s a sound I really love. And all my machines had audible distortion from the preamp+saturation from tape+ small inconsistencies from wow/flutter. It happens to be the sound I like and the sound I associate with the real deal. I never had any of my echo machines sounding good and clean for a long time. They quickly start sounding “bad”, which is “good” in my book :) That being said, I bought the nux and can’t recommend it. It has weird digital artifacts going on with sources with fast transients and high frequency, for instance bells and xylophones. Sound almost like bit reduction on the tails.
@Dave Davies No worries. Let's not forget that "chorus" was designed to emulate a modulated delay. Everyone has their own opinion and taste, and based on all your other comments on this thread we now all know yours, and it is perfectly valid, as are those who differ.
bummer of a vid. bro compared to the boss, you turned the treble up way too high on the nux, and for the whole vid :/ when you just boost the treble that much on the nux of course the RE202 will sound warmer....

You could have at least tried the Aged tape setting on the 202. Although the NuX sounds more like a BBD delay than a tape delay on the repeats.

@Dave Davies I actually bought the Nux and an RE-2, and you know what? You're right. Sold the Nux, that Boss is incredible.
