@@patrickbrogan8770 Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for playing the Joker in The Dark Knight. Then Joaquin Phoenix won for his iteration of the Joker. So, this was the THIRD time an actor was nominated for a superhero movie character.
The truth is that in the eyes of many, the Awards that Angela bassett won prior to the Oscars(Golden Globe and Critics Choice)were seen as a joke. You could certainly tell that this was just a Fanservice for Marvel Fans. Once the SAG and the Baftas left for the correct and not for the Fanservice, it was obvious that the Oscars would too. Fanservice was enough to give Angela bassett the nomination, the Academy didn't have to give her the Oscar.
I don't know why all the hype. Angela is a strong black woman playing a strong African Queen in 1/3 of a movie. She had a very good speech about 10 minutes in, but then not much after. Jamie Lee was in the entire movie, and sometimes in the background hardly noticeable, and was fighting Michelle Yeoh looking scary as F...! This is what happens when the vote is split, cause any one of the five could have won this. I imagine many people just checked EEAAO down the voting card.
She’s sad because she really wanted it. She isn’t the first to have a reaction like that. Have you forgotten Glenn Close’s reaction to losing to Olivia Colman? There have been many people who had bad reactions to losing in Oscar’s past. She is just sad cause she lost.
@Kritikal No one has had this badly of a reaction to someone’s reaction in the past. I wonder why Angela is getting so much flack for it compared to past winners? What makes her so different?!

Angela Bassett's icy lack of reaction is shocking. Not a smile, not one applause, no fair play, a wax statue that didn't even bother to stand up in order to honor her collegue's victory. The queen of Wakanda has just lost her crown.
She's only human. I understand being disappointed, but I can't deny Jaime's incredible performance which required her to play different personalities and do stunts. Also, she's been in the industry for way longer!

Everything Everywhere all at once was my favorite movie of 2022 EASILY! I’m soooo glad it won big at the Oscars. This was my favorite Oscar show of my life(so far). Everything I wanted to happen did happen. Everything everywhere all at once won big and Brendan Fraser won best actor for The Whale. My favorite film of the year hasn’t won best picture since Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Anyways, I’m glad Jamie Lee Curtis got this award! I’m glad everything everywhere all at once got this award. Now, I think this win was more of a win for her career rather than acting wise. Although she did an amazing job. When I first saw the movie, I didn’t even know it was her. I thought it was some random old lady. she won because of many reasons: her legacy, the hype for the movie, the campaign, the speeches during the award season and YES... the performance! I love when comedic performances get this recognition, and I'm so glad to live in a world where JLC is an Oscar winner!
I just found out that this her first Oscar win ever. The amount of people who were upset didn't know this. She defiantly deserved this win. 5 decades and this is her first?! Come on now. She’s such a good actress!
So happy for Jamie!! I love her so much. All the Halloween films were my favorite movie series of all time. I literally go and watch every one from the start to finish every few months.
I know I may receive criticism, but I thought Bassett was being a little too childish. And if JLC had done this to her we would have died from comments about racism. Funny that three performances were awarded for EEAAO and the best one went home empty handed. Hsu was amazing and so was Condon. One of them, if not both, should have won.
Could JLC BE any cooler?! She is AMAZING! This was so deserved! Everything about her is awesome- she looks gorgeous (hasn't had ANY plastic surgery), married to her true love for almost 40 years, a great role-model & an incredible mom; you go, Jamie! LOVE YA!!
If Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh can see this from beyond the grave, you can bet that they're darn proud of their little girl. Congratulations, Jamie Lee Curtis, and continue to shine, you golden diamond.
In 2024, I came to declare all my love for Jamie Lee Curtis. She is a great actress and always will be. She is even the greatest horror actress that has ever existed, and whether she wins an Oscar or not, that would not take away those two titles from her. Be careful with people like Angela Bassett in your life; they seem fine and confident, but they are nothing more than arrogant and haughty people who want the worst for you. She lost respect for everyone with a small arrogant attitude. I LOOOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOOUUUUU, JAMIE LEE CURTIS! Lots of Health, Happiness and Awards! 🏆🏆🏆🥰🥰😘😘🤩❤️❤️💞🎭🏆🏆🏆

I LOVE the fact that, at last, too late, they realize that the Halloween franchise would NOT exist without her being an extraordinary actress of the highest skill. FORTY-FIVE years of this franchise, PROVES Jamie Lee is a GREAT actress. The Powers-That-Be hate "genre" movies with such passion that they ignored her until now. So so happy she finally got this much deserved, this much earned, Oscar.
Even though this was more like life achievement award, she bloody smashed it in bear season 2 so much that she would've gotten that oscar once again....so Emmys it is
I hate her win was overshadowed by the Angela Bassett thing. Both did great, but Jamie edged her out. I'm happy Jamie got an Oscar before it was too late. There's still time for Angela.
I agree Angela could have been cheerful. Jaime Lee Parents were nominated and didn't win she won for the body of work put in. All of the Halloween trilogies are great movies. It was a big win for her.
I think people are being way too harsh on Angela Bassett’s 3 second reaction. It’s absolutely understandable for her to feel disappointed, at the moment, and she did stood up for Jamie later on during her speech, but it wasn’t shown. It’s not like back then, when Eddie Murphy angrily stormed off, the moment after he lost to Alan Arkin for “Little Miss Sunshine”. Stop and think about this: everyone who won in the acting categories are all respected, veteran actors, and not one of them had ever been nominated until this year. This was an Oscars for the books.
My personal rank for this killer category is Kerry Condon > Stephanie Hsu > Angela Bassett > Hong Chau > Jamie Lee Curtis. I have watched all of the nominated films and honestly speaking Kerry and Steph were amazing!
Congrats Jamie! It’s sad how people were happy when she won the SAG Award but were/are bitching and moaning that she won the Oscar. People keep forgetting that there can only be *one* winner, and people also keep forgetting there’s more to a performance than being the loudest. But other than that, all the nominees were incredible and deserved to get nominated. But again, congratulations Jamie! A well-deserved win after a long career.
While I was pretty hesitant on the fact she won, I still adore Jaime Lee Curtis. I think she’s a phenomenal actress and I like to think this win goes to her long-time involvement in the Halloween movies and being one of the more iconic final girls/scream queens. Haven’t seen EEAAO but from what I hear, she was fine in that movie but not an Oscar-worthy performance. I’ll have to check it out one of these days though 👌🏼
I feel like people tend to forget that comedic performances can be oscar worthy as well. Like Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost. She stole every scene she was in in that movie! Same with Jamie, although she had a much smaller role in the movie and she wasn’t my favorite, she definitely was a standout. I personally would’ve gone with Stephanie Hsu or Hong Chau.
I don’t know why so many people are saying Angela Bassett was snubbed. I’ve watched both their films and Jamie definitely stood out more. @@patrickbrogan8770 Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for playing the Joker in The Dark Knight. Then Joaquin Phoenix won for his iteration of the Joker. So, this was the THIRD time an actor was nominated for a superhero movie character.
@@m.nicole7996 I said “other than the Joker” lmao
I love Stephanie Hsu's reaction ❤❤❤ Nothing but love.
Angela Basset's reaction is something too surprising. Lack of sportsmanship or simply surprise?
She’s sad because she really wanted it. She isn’t the first to have a reaction like that. Have you forgotten Glenn Close’s reaction to losing to Olivia Colman? There have been many people who had bad reactions to losing in Oscar’s past. She is just sad cause she lost.
@@kritikal123How about you eff off
@Kritikal There a literally whole videos of people being sore losers at the Oscars. Why are people singling out Angela of all people?!
She don’t care about your disappointment like the fact y’all let her reaction overshadow Jamie win proved who the real winner is in history.
@Kritikal No one has had this badly of a reaction to someone’s reaction in the past. I wonder why Angela is getting so much flack for it compared to past winners? What makes her so different?!
I love her "SHUT UP" response whenever she wins an award ☺️ I freakin love her ❤❤ I know her parents are smiling for her award from heaven even though they didn't win, they're baby girl finally won 💛
This video makes me fall in love with Stephanie Hsu - she Is nominated for a much larger role but looks so happy for her co-star to win! What a good sport. Love that Laurie Strode now has an Oscar!
I just come here to see Jamie going “SHUT UP!” Hilarious reaction.
One word: QUEEN
*Before the ceremony it was said we miss the time when standing ovation was for special awards and also for really especial works in competition categories. It means standing ovation did NOT happen every year. In the last 25 years everybody in main categories got standing ovation every year. People sadly misunderstood it thinking it was to spread it to the other categories too.*
*R.I.P. the real meaning of standing ovation (long time ago) because everybody gets standing ovation.*
*PS: Jamie Lee Curtis did not deserved it.*

Jamie Lee Curtis wore DOLCE & GABBANA
Angela Bassett wore MOSCHINO
Stephanie Hsu wore VALENTINO
Hong Chau wore PRADA
Kerry Condon wore VERSACE

Go gives a fuck?
2:48 cements this as one of my favorite wins. I just love so much that JLC shouted out all her Halloween/horror fans. We love you Jamie!
Forever and always our FINAL GIRL.
Can we say ‘Sore loser’?
@@lordalessan I can understand Angela being disappointed n intially not being able to hide it on her face when she heard Jamie Leigh's name called instead of her own but, for goodness sake after hearing Jamie Leigh's heartwarming gracious upbeat acceptance speech, she should of been over it by then n applauded...Not doing so just shows a lack of sophistication n bad manner's.
Yeah cuz there’s never been any actress who has had the EXACT same reaction… give me a break. Humans and especially actors are allowed to be disappointed and/or shocked without being judged. A 2 second clip and you’ve decided she’s lost her “crown” gross.
Well said
So deserved, Jamie Lee Curtis is a legend ❤️
Legend for what? Halloween films and 1 or 2 relevant movies?? Apart from that, Jamie Lee Curtis did not deserved that.
A true legend! So happy for her!!
@@marcotulio5858someone hasn’t watched scream queens
Congratulations Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, rip, for being stars and for having her as your daughter
Now, I think the true winner should have been Stephanie Hsu, but I’m really glad Jamie Lee Curtis won. She would have been my 2nd choice.
Here’s how I would have ranked my choices if I was a voter.
1. Stephanie Hsu
2.Jamie Lee Curtis
3 Angela Bassett
4. Hong Chau
5. Katie Condon
I agree ☝️
1:04 You know a cast and crew are a family when there are two people from the same movie, nominated for the SAME award, and when one of them wins, the other jumps up and is the loudest one screaming. That's what made EEAAO the movie of the year.
1. Angela Bassett
2. Jamie Lee Curtis
3. Kerry Condon
4. Stephanie Hsu
5. Hong Chau
I love Jamie Lee Curtis! She is a phenomenal actress. I have loved her work for decades.
I had to cry and the end when she spoke to her mum and dad
I was so happy for her, she deserved this awards long ago for several killer performances she did
Although her oscar win for particularly EEAAO might sound not fair but she deserves it for her career. A very well deserved Oscar to a worthy actress.
Angela Bassett wins for Best Stinkface for the movie, “I Can’t Be Happy for Others”.
she won because of many reasons: her legacy, the hype for the movie, the campaign, the speeches during the award season and YES... the performance! I love when comedic performances get this recognition, and I'm so glad to live in a world where JLC is an Oscar winner!
Jamie Lee Curtis deserved to win. I was so disappointed with Angela Bassett's reaction. It was sour grapes.
I just found out that this her first Oscar win ever. The amount of people who were upset didn't know this. She defiantly deserved this win. 5 decades and this is her first?! Come on now. She’s such a good actress!
She was good in the movie, but it was not a performance that really dazzled me. This felt more like an award to acknowledge her career.

Anyway, congrats again on a WELL DESERVED award win, Jamie🤗
She's a great actress, but she did not deserve this Oscar. It was a legacy win. Stephanie Hsu deserved the Oscar.

As much as I was hoping for Angela to win, I'm so happy that Jamie won. I can only imagine how proud her parents would be for their daughter.
My fam and I did an Oscar Pool and I was torn between AB and JLC and I actually picked AB, but was stoked when JLC won, because I always liked her.
@@Robert-zx2ir Any of the nominees were worthy of the win, but I felt Jamie and Angela were the top contenders.
Putting it simply and concisely, she has paid her dues...
Jamie Lee Curtis deserved an award just for surviving the Halloween sequels.

From a scream queen to an academy award winner congratulations to Jamie Lee Curtis, Angela Bassett's reaction though
What about her reaction?
Bassett was incredibly rude. At least clap. You know Curtis would have been ECSTATIC had Bassett won.
I would have that reaction too if I lost to a mediocre performance!

Let's cut the bullshit already. Jamie did not do better than Bassett or Hsu. Stephanie Hsu deserved that Oscar. This was a legacy win.
@@LegionIvory Agree to disagree.
In fact, after Angela had lost, she still stayed and comforted Austin Butler, the rest of the night because he was so nervous.
@@davy209I can understand her disappointment. She didn’t win for her jaw dropping showstopping performance as Tina Turner and this was her second nomination after YEARS.

So HAPPY that YOU WON- Jamie Lee Curtis! I know your parents are watching & proud! God Bless to the Best!
A masterclass acceptance speech from a very deserving recipient.
Such a talented and versatile actress finally getting recognized by the Oscars.

I don’t know why so many people are saying Angela Bassett was snubbed. I’ve watched both their films and Jamie definitely stood out more. If anything, Stephanie Hsu should have won but I get that she’s young and people probably think she has more opportunities to win. Jamie’s been acting for years and is only being given these awards now. She deserves the recognition for sure!

Angela is an amazing actor, but the movie she was in and the character she played were not deserving of an Oscar. It's not her fault. Jamie deserved this more than her this time around.
That’s so totally absurd it was her only first nomination!
