The 10-18 is like the 18-105. They are lenses that are good but not great as they are compromises. The sharpness of these two lenses are similar.....meaning not as sharp as many would like. I've owned them both and sold them after a short while. I prefer the Zeiss 12 2.8 Touit as a wide angle lens. Nothing like a Zeiss prime for great color and sharpness.
it is an incredible lens. i owned it a couple of years back with the sony nex6 camera (which didnt perform for pro use) and sold the camera and then the lens (which was awesome). now have the sony a6300 and wish id kept the lens... want it again !
Very nice review. Looking to add the 10-18mm 4 to my 18-105mm 4 as well. Just a note: Clear Image Zoom in camera makes it even more versatile. I set the CIZ as one of my custom buttons to extend reach of all my lenses with little perceptible loss in image quality.
Excellent focal range for vloggers and videographers. Awesome review.. The edge softness at 10mm is common on most any UWA lenses wide open, many will clear up about f/6.3. This particular focal range is also really good for HDR and surreal long exposures IMHO..
+Joe's Photo & Video Channel I didn't think it was all that bad on this particular lens. For all intents and purposes I thought it was pretty damn good compared to a lot of other wide-angle lenses. And it cleaned up pretty nicely at 5.6 😎
Finally somebody make proper review of this lens and tell how close you are to the camera in 10 and in 18mm scenarios! Thank you so much for this video! I already have 18-105 G lens but I did not have any idea how far you need you need to be get more in view especially in 4K video. Am shooting my videos in smaller room and I need to have my 18-105 on other side of room to get everything in frame which it so annoying. Is the video angle and depth of field same on 4k as in this video on 1080P? Or it get more zoomed in in 4k?
The second lens that bought when I got my A6000 last year and easily one of my most frequently used lenses :) Use it on the A6300 now and I agree with all the points you discussed in the vid. Keep up the great content!
I have seen many reports that this lens is soft on the lower left at the wide end. Amazon average rating is also lower than other similar lenses. I think the main reason is that it is made in China. But I don't understand why Sony sells it at the "Made in Japan" price that still has not come down after nearly five years now.
I've been looking for a review on this lens with the 6300 for the longest time thank you so much for doing it! i'll be picking up this lens soon for my 6300
Thanks for your sharing. Would you kind to answer my question? Iam thinking of buying this lens but don’t know if it works well in low light. What do you think about using this lens in low light?
Great review of the lens. I just bought the lens for my travel. I have the Sony A6000. Any suggestions of how to avoid distortion when taking picture of people in it?
should be on any a6000/a6300 buy list ... one small thing if you use the hood it doesn't extend anymore (well its internal) so it kinda feels like all the g lenses like that :)
Hi, I'm planning 2 weeks in Thailand and need to choose between Samyang 12mm F2.8 and this lens. Will be the OSS and AF so important if I'm not taking anything more than elastic tripod? Most of pictures from hand.
thanks so much for this review! I have a Sony a6000 and have been researching a lens to take to Hawaii this winter and across Canada this summer... I think I will be shooting mostly landscapes. Seems like this is the lens for me! (I also have the kit lens and 55-200 zoom.) I sometimes take pictures of close stuff like flowers and bees, but I don't have a macro lens. I have been using the zoom lens to get close to the bees without endangering myself....:-) Do you have a review for a macro lens for the a6000?
Great review ! Thank you :-) I'm thinking of getting this lens for my a6000 to use for travel in combination with my 18-105 G or my old 18-200 (silver version). Would the 10-18 be OK for things like interiors of castles or cathedrals or would something faster than F4 (such as the 16mm or 20mm pancakes with adaptors) be required for that kind of light ? I like the idea of having a 10-200 mm range covered by only 2 lenses but only if the lenses would be OK for both interior and exterior shots ...
Personally, I'm not too scared of higher ISOs with these Sons cameras. I think it would be perfect for that! But ultimately, it'll be up to you as to what's going to be acceptable or not.
It's a F4 constant, but it's also an APS-C lens. The A7SII would be fine as far as lowlight, but it's not an optimal lens. I'm not sure how bad the vignette would be so that's something else to consider.
The Photo/Video Show is there any other good Sony lenses or lenses that can use an adapter with low focal length(ultra wide angle) that are good in low light/low aperture
Thank you. I looked closer and yes, it is A6300. Pretty cool camera, but selfie mode of the screen is something I would miss here for sure. Even if I can stream screen to my iPhone. Anyway - nice review. Thanks!
The Photo/Video Show You earn money doing this video. This is a source of income for you. I look at ads (or at least I would if I had no ad blocker), and in return get content. What should I thank you for? That being said, your videos are generally well-made and helpful. Since you just called me a prick, I'll stop watching them though.

Nice video Mark. I use this lens quite a bit. Love it in the 16-18mm range. Also worth noting at 16mm it will cover full frame.
+The Art of Photography Thanks, Ted! This is a great wide angle lens. One of the best for Sony APS-C bodies.

Great review of the lens. I just bought the lens for my travel. I have the Sony A6000. Any suggestions of how to avoid distortion when taking picture of people in it?
Thanks for the video ! well done. all the footage in the "bokeh" section are at 18mm ? I wonder if at 18mm is where you get the best bokeh.
I own this lens and I use it with the Sony a6000. It is excellent for landscape.
+Sultan Taif Indeed it is!
Love this lens. Highly recommended.
bt10ant how are the sunstars?

Instrumental music
good review, but i'ii still go with Rokinon 12mm T2.2 Cine Lens for better low light videography
Great review, this one is on my wishlist
Silly question, can you screw an ND filter on the 10-18mm lens since it does pop out when its at 10mm?
You should stick white paper (or another solid cover) over the turn table.
its .85 feet (=.25 M) minimal focal distance...not inches, be careful with the math.
+Cycling Dropout Typo. My bad.
I was gonna say, .25M equals just over 9 inches....
I have the 24-70 f4 from sony zeiss for my a7 camera, now that i have a a6300 this 10-18 is very tempting to use with the 24-70

Thanks for watching. Honestly, I don't do much macro work, but when I need some close up action, I usefully just use tubes.
good intro to the 10-18. thanks.
Is it a full frame lens? Or an APS-C one?
What's sharper: the 10-18 @ 18mm or the 18-105 @ 18mm?

So maybe my next Sony a6500, I may just get the 10-18mm and the 18-105mm lens, for most of my blogging use?
+Mezza001 I think you'll be tickled pink with that setup! 😎
The Photo/Video Show thks! But the non flip screen is difficult for self blogging on the sony a6300 and a6500. Oh well....
Think of it as a positive. When you have that flip screen, you may end up looking at yourself when you should be looking at the lens.
@@mezza001 SmallHD focus external monitor would do the job
How good are the sunstars?
How were you able to use the Sony app while recording a video?
can you use the Lee 100 filter system with this lens?
Been drooling over this for quite a while, if only I could afford it. Not that it's as expensive as a zeiss but it's still $1000.
+Chen Eye you can pick it up on Amazon for around $550
The Photo/Video Show It says 1,041 Canadian dollars...
Thanks for the review 🙏
Thanks man!
Can you do a comparison of this with the tokina 11-18 lens?
+Luan Nguyen i'll see what I can do. I don't currently own the Tokina but will try to get it on loan.
The Photo/Video Show thank you! If you can't it's all good! Love the content!
Thanks for the review :)
Thanks, Nick!
How would this lens do in lowlight with limited lighting for video on an a7sii?
It's a F4 constant, but it's also an APS-C lens. The A7SII would be fine as far as lowlight, but it's not an optimal lens. I'm not sure how bad the vignette would be so that's something else to consider.
The Photo/Video Show is there any other good Sony lenses or lenses that can use an adapter with low focal length(ultra wide angle) that are good in low light/low aperture
There's this one from Sigma - amzn.to/2kqwNfI
You'd need the adapter though.
can you shoot wide angle sufficient at 18-200mm. I'm planning to shoot a lot of landscape and architecture. Or would I need to buy 10-18?
Depends on which camera you are going to use. If it's an APSC sized sensor, you have to take the crop factor into consideration.
Sony A6000 has an external mic input?
No. The A6300 does. That's what was being used in this video.
Thank you. I looked closer and yes, it is A6300. Pretty cool camera, but selfie mode of the screen is something I would miss here for sure. Even if I can stream screen to my iPhone. Anyway - nice review. Thanks!
Price guys?
+Daniel Garcia $850 retail but you can get it much cheaper used on Amazon.
Thankyou
You're welcome!
.82" = 0.25m ??? Opps ! :-)
+Gerald Ryder Typo. My bad 🤗
Vey nice review, I just was very confused when you talk in feet, foot etc , but is Ok, just wish one day you will get the metric system :)
will this work with a6300?
Yes.
.82in does NOT equal 0.25m. Not even close, buddy.

See ya!
Yeah, when people correct me on my videos I don't attack them back. The worse I do is ignore them, but not delete them.
Q: Since when did any American understand the metric system?
A: Never
The Photo/Video Show hey what about my name?? tell meh......!!
0.82 IN ≠ 0.25M
say slowly idol..hihihi
0.25Meters? LOL 25cm? Hahaha
