      50 games total...over eight seasons. I felt bad for him because his career was cut short and he missed so many games. I felt worse for the Indy fans because they were, essentially, teased with an amazing defensive talent in the secondary. He played so much bigger than his size.

    When people comment about Manning's playoff woes, they are immediately disqualified from having an intelligent discussion on the topic. When they talk about this specific playoff run to the Super Bowl, they fail to understand a few things. Namely, the awkward productivity decline started happening week 11 (they started 9-0 averaging 31 ppg, and then went 1-3 averaging less than 17 ppg). How?
    1. This was the year he took the hit from the high/low bounty put on him by the Washington Redskins. His spine was literally ripped apart. He was playing hurt for the first time.
    2. He didn't have Edgerrin James anymore, so the run game was absolutely horrific until very late.
    3. Offensive line was porous. He and his backs were facing 2-3 defenders in under 2 seconds on almost every play.
    4. Special Teams were giving up nearly 100 return yards per game, constantly flipping field position and momentum.
    5. Defense couldn't get off the field. By the end of the regular season, the Colts defense was giving up 176.5 rushing yards per game.
    6. Harrison had 3 dislocated fingers late in the season.
    7. Stokely was out, Clark missed a bunch of games, and this was Wayne's worst year for drops. They had to cycle practice squad and free agent WR's late in the season.
    8. Defenses started dropping 7-8 guys into coverage, forcing Manning into a shorter passing game, but also a riskier passing game. This helped open up the run with otherwise mediocre backs, but also made throwing more dangerous; especially with fewer/injured weapons.
    What helped them win it all? The defense got healthy(ish) right before the playoffs, the run game finally started (sort of) working, and Dungy didn't rest the damn players at the end of the season so they were still in game-shape come playoff time. Oh, and Bob Sanders was healthy for a playoff run. Yes, he was THAT good on defense.

      @indy_go_blue6048 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think this game is a great example of how an interception isn't always a qbs fault necessarily. Peyton's first interception Harrison didn't cut back, the 2nd one in definitely Peyton's fault, trying to get it in a tight window, and the third time Harrison lets Law get it AGAIN and didn't adjust to what Peyton was doing when the play didn't go as planned, which Harrison had a huge problem with in his playoff career is physical corners kept beating him to spots or he didn't adjust when Peyton couldn't give him perfect throws. He should've known where Law was at all times and seen where Peyton would throw the ball. Harrison's failure to make adjustments resulted in him recording only 2 TD's his whole playoff career. Big reason Peyton lost so much in the early days in Indy.

    I don't think this Colts team could have won the Super Bowl title without having to play the first round. They hadn't played well the whole second half of the season and came into the playoffs staggering, losing 4 of their last 7 games. They didn't play great in this game either but having to play instead of a bye helped sharpen them up for the Ravens and Patriots the next two rounds, where they were much better.

    • @chasetullar2732
      @chasetullar2732 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly they staggered their way thru the entire playoffs outside of the second half of the AFC championship game where the ball just kept bouncing their way that half.
      Wildcard round 3 turnovers
      Divisional round unable to score an offensive touchdown.
      AFC Championship game trailed 21-6 at halftime.
      Super Bowl gave up a kick return for a TD to start the game and also had 3 turnovers defense saved them with forcing 5 turnovers.
      This was definitely a great defensive run that gets overshadowed because of Peyton Manning.

    • @brockgeorge777
      @brockgeorge777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think elsewhere the vibe was Indy might be in for another early playoff exit. Larry Johnson against their run defense looked like a woeful mismatch.
      Unfortunately for KC, Bob Sanders was back and he was critical to bailing out their small defense when a back got through. And as it turned out, I sort of think that enticed KC to try to run first and pass second even more than usual. When the game plan didn’t work they were soon behind and forced to pass against a defense built for such situations.

On top of that, in the superbowl, he played in the rain. Two of the picks this season were tipped from receivers as well. Nonetheless, your argument is mute, because every game that postseason had a QBR of over 70 of Peyton, which means he played via well via film analysts.
