    It’s a good tool for getting people through the door, what they spend once they’re in is down to the store owner. I’ve been in stores on RSD and bought something else besides the RSD product, usually because it’s sold out or too expensive.

    😃👍. I am sorry that you stress out, Anthony I get it though. I love local records stores, but RSD is meh to me due to no fault of my store. I usually buy other things at my store on RSD and on Sunday. I always go to support my store, spend moolah, see a band, and drink a beer. My local store sees me all the time. I usually buy CDs and a few records. Rarely is there anything on RSD for which I would wait in line. This year there are a couple of items. Last year, I had to order the Iggy Pop Live in Berlin album (RSD Exclusive) from a store in Hoboken, New Jersey on Sunday. I don't think that I paid above retail, but I had to search for it all over the country and have it shipped to me in the Sunshine State. It arrived in perfect shape. I try to make the entire weekend a rockin' time. It is always record store shopping and junk hunting for music. It is usually a big haul that I tremendously enjoy! 🔥. Rock Always! - Heather

    I’m 50/50 on RSD. It’s a good thing for music stores and for fans but also a bad thing. You have to line up with no guarantee you’re going to get what you want, then store owners don’t know what they’re getting and how much they’re getting and are potentially stuck with leftovers that they can’t return. They should be able to return stuff because one store may have something sitting on their shelf that someone else at another store wants but isn’t in stock at their store.
    I never wait in line for stuff, I’ll usually check the next day to see if what I want is in stock.

    Great insights on RSD.
    Here in Honolulu Hawaii ,we have two Record stores that participates in RSD on Oahu.
    Knowing what the customer wants is a hard one. Sometimes I see RSD titles from the previous years, all that money tied up, hopefully they can write it off as (advertising) since that's what your really doing trying to get new customers in your store.
    Hope this year will be prosperous for Anthony in his store. on RSD.

    I've enjoyed the shared experience of RSD. I've for sure had to buy items for flipping in order to acquire the records I couldn't get on the day. I feel it has been a give and take experience. I paid a price for The Crow Soundtrack and Kittie: Spit... and had to sell Taylor Swift as well as Notorious BIG... that more than even things out. But it's honestly the fun of being in line with people who love music in any format.

    Interesting topic. That covid year of Record Store Day sucked for independent labels like ours. We had 2 RSD titles cancelled on us by the RSD org with one of the titles having already been manufactured for RSD to meet THEIR deadline. No more RSD for us. Never again. What a crappy thing to do to independent labels and artists who were depending on those sales.

    Hi guys! Great video. I've been going to RSDs since about the beginning, though I'm a CD buyer but do have a turntable and there have been a few things I have bought on vinyl because it was a cool release or not on CD (and who knows if it ever will). I don't buy much that comes out on RSD anymore because nothing has really sparked my interest. But, like one of your other commenters, my wife will sometimes come with and we'll make a day out of it. It can be a lot of fun.

      As someone coming from a backround in investing and giving valuations to companyies, I can tell you that as far as boots on the ground are concerned, there’s a lot of negative feelings about it, and that’s not going to be fixed by the continuing growth of the greed of the entities behind RSD. Theyre gonna end up holding a bag at the end. It will come in the form of a last few years of low demand and turnout.

There are very few local record stores I’ve been to that are my favorites. One place is Rock Fantasy in Middletown NY, hence that I lived up in Sullivan County NY/NY Catskills for 45 years of my life….Rock Fantasy was 26 minutes from me & just loved that place. Now living in Norwalk CT….Norwalk is such a weird city. I went to Zia Records in Vegas in October which was really cool. I love Amoeba Music in Los Angeles. Hi Guys - I think record store day has been a big success. Its initial idea was to get people back into the record shops - that has been successful 100%. There are other issues surrounding the day, however it has been a big success overall. I personally dont get involved with it, records are just way to expensive - I stick to my CD's and thrifting lol. Cya

  • @richardhenle2650
    @richardhenle2650 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yeah its a definite positive for both the fans/buyers and the stores because a lot of times or maybe at least a good enough percentage, a RSD buyer will look and notice something they had no clue about that maybe was something new or a little older or because they didnt find every RSD thing that ended buying something else you had in the store. I still think the frustrating thing as a fan is the “flippers” I mean we can look at EBAY now and they are still selling that Foo Fighters from a few years ago for hundreds or the Olivia Rodrigo from last RSD is still selling for a few hundred dollars for 4 cuts. Theres no way to stop this but it does kind of suck. This year like Anthony pointed out the Pearl Jam is the 19th and then another version of it the next day, Taylor Swift is releasing a new album on the 19th too so that weekend is going to be insane for stores and thats a good thing. It was bands like Pearl Jam and u2 and other rockers that kept records alive but I think a lot of kudos to Taylor Swift who has made a huge % of the fan base buy physical stuff, cds, lps cassettes and thats a good thing for physical media.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I know it’s not Gene and Paul. It might be Bruce Kulick who put the whole thing together the first time. He plays on the recordings and after Eric’s death completed the songs for him and got them released. More than likely the family does make the royalties but probably just isn’t the ones in charge of the release.

    Not a fan of RSD at all. Glad it helps the indie stores, but there is never anything of interest for me. First I don't buy vinyl, and the number of CDs released is minimal if at all. I am also not a fan of "manufactured" collectibles. Isn't this the 3rd year in a row they are putting out that Eric Carr release?
    I do shop that day though, cause my local store has sales on other things, and if your not looking for RSD stuff, you don't have to wait in line.

    I stopped going to RSD long time ago. 2013 was the last time for me. Things get chaotic. Not just that I know I won't get everything anyways so I stopped. I just get the public releases I think they should do more of that public releases of albums. That be amazing. Because for collectors the small number sucks because it doesn't mean you're still won't get that release. I would never pay the after market price. That's was another reason why I stopped I saw people buying more then one of the same album to resell it. That's is a dick move. Hopefully we get more general public release of music that be great. A CD day would be awesome to do but fans been asking for years for that I don't see it happening unfortunately. Hopefully I'm wrong it happens that be amazing.

    Absolutely 100000000000% Record Store Day is beneficial. Brendan you gotta stop comparing actual Record Store Day with the Black Friday version. The spring time RSD is a golden God. I am looking at this from the record store perspective, the label perspective, the artist perspective, and from a fan’s perspective. I do agree if it’s a RSD release, that’s it… kill it there, don’t re-issue down the road, don’t rerelease it next year on RSD. One and done. Let those limited quantities go and if down the road the fan wants to sell for 10x the price they paid and another fan wants to buy at that price, so be it. I know the reason they get reissued is to combat that, but that’s part of the deal. Like certain Pokémon cards.
    Side note - not sure who owns the Eric Carr stuff, I thought the family/estate did get full control of it, but maybe not… I do know that Vinnie Vincent owns the Eric Carr face paint design. These videos with Anthony makes me wanna get back into the RS business! Haha… Waiting patiently for the next video!!!!!

      You know I love and prefer CDs but if records don’t sound good to you then you’re not listening to them on the right system. Which is really true of any musical format. Any can sound great with the right system. But I’ve never heard a record sound bad in my life. Only the system playing it was been bad.
