On a historic level it should be remembered that the legend of the Rollright Stones and the Witch probably dates back to Medieval times. The Neolithic people who raised the Dolmen now known as The Whispering Knights would have had no concept of the legend. Same with most legends attached to ancient henges and menhirs. Like the Goose Stones at Chastleton, or The Witch Burning stone at Dean - all of which exist a couple of miles away.

The last 3 women killed in the UK for witchcraft came from my birth town Bideford.
I know docs like to speak of historic events in the present tense to enliven them, but this is an excellent example of how it clouds the message. This ended by saying "This is 1928 and the good people of Long Compton still believe in witches." Do you mean still in 1928 or still 89 years later in 2019?
Witches always have, and still do exist; there are just a lot of misconceptions about their origins, traditions and intentions

Sounds like an excuse to practice misogyny and ageism. It's tiresome how too many don't take responsibility for how their lives without blaming others or "forces" for life. Seems to me I would it would make more sense to "blame" the authorities such as government leaders for not looking after the average person's interests than some poor elderly woman.

I'm as materialist as you can come...BUT: I will always prefer and defend the "Pagan" beleifs that rely on actual reality, on nature itself. Some form of this might be extremely useful for humanity. I would prefer Supreme Fictions as the guiding rule, in which we know the beliefs probably aren't literally true, but true none the less on a different (more useful) level.

I just find it so strange. That being pagan you are completely surrounded by witches and people who practise witchcraft, the amount of baby witches that roll in daily.
