    I lived in NC for over three years and they have great farms for the people to get produce and fruit from. Plus they have a longer growing season. One year at Thanksgiving, people were still getting tomatoes and peppers out of their gardens.. for real. Thanks for sharing this with us. I've never heard of just being able to put them right in the freezer this way but I'm going to start doing it

    frozen tomatoes are great for fresh smooth salsa in the winter. I love tomatoes on sandwiches,but frozen tomatoes are too mushy. So I buy the cardboard tasting tomatoes in the grocery store, Slice them, pour tomato juice over them and refrigerate over night. Bad becomes wonderful.

  • @Telcomvic

    I always core mine before freezing. It seems easier than trying to defrost them and then core and skin them.
    ETA: I also dry them well and freeze them on a tray first so they don't stick together in the bag and get icy.

    My 89 year old Mom and I canned tomatoes last Friday. We did NOT pressure can them. We scalded tomatoes, peeled and cut them up in chunks into a big pot. Let them cook until they are soft and start to break down. The jars are washed in hot soapy water, rinsed and air dried. The lids and rings are washed, rinsed and the lids are put in a shallow pan and covered with boiling water keep on the stove to keep hot. The rings are dried and laid to the side. To the jars add a teaspoon of salt and fill to just below rim(where the jar starts to get smaller) of the hot tomatoes, leaving a space about 3/4 inch from top of jar. Carefully, remove a hot lid and put on jar then add the ring and tighten it down tight but not over tight. Set on heavy towels on the counter or where ever leaving room between jars for air to circulate and cool down to room temperature. After 15 to 20 minutes you'll hear a little popping sound. That when they are sealed. Once jars are cooled down store in dark cool place. Enjoy!!!

    • @virginiamesko6369
      @virginiamesko6369 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You cut a surface x on the bottom, drop the tomatoes into boiling water for about 2 minutes and the skins come right off. If you want, as you remove the skin, you can drop the skinned tomatoes, which will be soft and juicy, into freezer bags, freeze them and later used them in a multitude of ways.
