Ben was an easy character to hate for a lot of people. But I really sympathized with him being just a stupid kid. Because sadly. Kids can just be stupid, especially traumatized teens. Yes even if it puts people in danger. I feel more could’ve been done narratively to make him more sympathetic as a character overall though, instead of just a history of fuck-ups mixed with a lack of reasonable accountability. The narrative pushes you to think he’s a liability. Though I think it says more about the player than Ben, if they think his life isn’t worth the hassle. It’s fictional and all. But I just think, when you start picking and choosing whose lives are worth it, is when you’re hitting sort of the moral quandaries of the zombie apocalypse. ‘It’s us or them (walkers)’ vs ‘it’s us or them (people)’. The game gives you options to make Clem less of a liability, and to comfort her, but not Ben? Cause he’s a teen, cause he’s a guy, cause he’s not little, he’s gotta figure it out himself? It’s still sad to me. We gotta be there for each other, even the adults. But I was more sensitive about Ben’s treatment when *I* was a teen. Now I get it’s just a game. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t like him especially how the game portrays his actions. I think in a ‘real world’ situation people would struggle more with writing off a person, cause they’d be more nuanced than well, The Walking Dead Game. You do you when you handle Ben. I’m glad you didn’t drop him. I watched a lot of people do that with *glee* when the game first came out.

There is a way to almost guarantee Kenny joins you in the search for Clementine. After Lee reveals his bite to the group, if you tell Kenny that Clementine is Lee's family, he will almost always join you. I don't know if there's a way for him to refuse even if you say that-I imagine you'd have to be going for a scumbag route, but as far as I know he always does. Remember, at his very core Kenny is a family man. He believes Duck was bitten because he froze and let Shawn get killed. A son for a son. Had you affirmed that you see Clementine as family, he wouldn't want to let what happened to Shawn happen to Clementine. Since you chose to not respond, Kenny defaulted to not having your back.

The thing about Ben for me is nothing he does is out of maliciousness. The reason he was giving the bandits supplies at the motor inn was to keep them from attacking (and likely killing) everyone, and he hadn't anticipated that Lily would shoot Carly of all people because he had not admitted it. The part that got me to dislike him was when he ran off on Clem, but again that was just out of fear and not because he wanted her to be hurt. I have sympathy for him but I def don't like him

i will forever be a Ben defender, because as much as he messes up, he's not doing it with malicious intent. i think people tend to forget that he's a teenager who, just like everyone, went through something incredibly traumatic - he went on a trip that he didn't get to come back from, he watched his classmates, friends and teachers die, he never got to see his family again. he's stuck in a group that sees him as a liability as already wrote him off, yet he still tries to help them and he wants to be included. i think he got so attached to Carley/Doug because they treated him so much nicer than everyone in the group:( ik a lot of people say that Clem is much more capable when younger, and while that's true, she also got different treatment - where she was corrected and taught, Ben got scolded and left out. he was most likely anxious and nervous to begin with, and being treated like that wouldn't help at all. and say what you want, but Ben is a very realistic character. a lot of people feel like they'd be a Lee in an apocalypse, but the truth is, most of us would be Bens. he's scared, he's anxious, he's inexperienced, naive, he makes mistakes. he's just trying to help as much as he can but he' not a hero, he's a teenager who wants to survive. it just feels a bit more real than Lee's consistent badassery (and, at times, plot armor) :D there's a similar character in season 2 that a lot of people hate, but that one has another issue going for them. i won't spoiler anything (i will probably write a comment when we get to them tho), i'll just say that i like both Ben and the other character a lot and i hope Scoot won't hate them as much

Clementine's scream reminded me I can scream in a way that worries animals. When the cats got ahold of the bird we were trying to rehabilitate after hit hit the window, the cats brought it back after that scream. I was still full of anxiety after the bird was in my hands. It never ended up making it though. I think the shock got to it. My sister and I would try to put it in the little tree where a bunch of other birds of it's type were, to let it get socialization. Then after a while, we kinda got it to realize thay we'd catch it when it jumped. It broke it's wings or something like that. And then when the dog got out recently, I screamed in a way that alarmed me too, and the dog that wouldn't come when called, turned and came back over, ears perked in concern. I was worried that i'd never see him again. And he never got rid of the excitement chomps. And he's part pitt. So I was worried he'd get in trouble and die if he got out.
Not a ben FAN, but I feel bad for him. He's not made for the apocalypse. He could have been a helpful, caring kid in any other situation than a survival one.
