It's the amp i used more in the rock part of my life. I think this amp is misunderstood by a lot of people. If you crank the master up on lead channel, half gain, you get a wonderful rock crunch and can pass to a rock clean with the guitar volume and to a singing lead with a pedal booster.
Don't know why people complain about this amp. Sounds awesome!

It sounds too manly that's their problem with this amp
its lacking in the bottom end. but the right cab can fix that
The amp is basically a Marshall with a built in gain pedal in front. The "clean" channel has LEDs in the signal path for more gain/OD. You can't dial them out in either case. Many don't like the forced gain pedal tone. I think it sounds fine, especially at lower volumes - very crunchy.
I have the 50W version of this amp. Of all the tone settings I've tried (both in the room and recording), the best tone happens when you literally dime everything except the reverb. Legit killer tone

Is this an EL34 based 900? I have the 5881\6L6 version with 6L6 in it but I'm going to retube it with 5881 because they seem to be closer to the EL34

I own this and the tsl 100, i love them both, but the 900 tho, wholy hell!!
I know very little about the 900 series. Is this the 4100 model? I always wrote them off, given just about every one I heard sounded horrible. But, I’ve heard two now, this being the 2nd that sounded amazing….and they have a really nice JTM-esq warm clean channel. Thinking of picking one of these up used, once I learn a little more about them. I just know they don’t all sound this good.
The Dual Reverb is the one you want, in my opinion

If anyone has ever made this amp sound any good - please let me know! I have never heard it sound good ever. Out here searching for a sliver light in this darkness as I'm sadly forced to play through these amp every so often.
I've been playing my 50 watt Dual Reverb since 1994 - you need to set the master volume to 6 and use an attenuator to bring the volume back down to a level that won't injure the front row. That kind of volume was acceptable in the 90's but now, not so much!
My 900 sounds great, many factors: tubes, speakers, cab, age of components, guitar, eq and patience
It's has a solid state pre-amp not just diode but the entire pre-amp is op amps. This one is all Tube,

If you can’t make one of these sound good, you are the problem.
Sounds very thin. No low end at all and you can hear the diode clipping.
Typical 900: thin, loose.
clear,alive crispy and crunchy meaty tight sound....
a jcm 900 cuts through the mix, play it loud.
If it sounds thin then get a parametric eq and an overdrive/boost pedal to get much more of it. I did just that plus this amp is perfect for even downtuning music as well.
Ya, I sodl mine for $400 back in the mid 90s and got a real amp, Mesa Tremoverb combo and modded for 3 channels. Much, much better!
Turn it up then!. Fat, tight. It's a marshall, it's for stages, not your bedroom.
