Throwback Thursdays! This week we have another PS2/Xbox gem, Enter the Matrix. Although at the time some felt the game was underwhelming, it nevertheless was a popular game. Enter the Matrix was ambitious in scope. The Wachoski brothers recorded extra live action scenes specifically for the game when they were filming Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions. This game won't make much sense unless you know the movies, but if you do know the movies, you'll love this extra content. It's completely canon and takes place alongside the events of Matrix Reloaded. We had some recording issues, so we had to record half on PS2 and half on PC. You'll notice the switch, and maybe some audio inconsistencies, but overall we felt it came out good
As always, we included relevant gameplay, important dialogue and all cutscenes to create one fluid cinematic experience. We hope you enjoy!

This game was really ambitious in its time. It's crazy to think that they filmed live action cutscenes specially for the game. I can't think of any other game that has done that except for the Command and Conquer series. It came out a week after the Matrix Reloaded came out, and it ties DIRECTLY in with the story of the movie. The game might feel dated now, and the reviews weren't even great when it came out, but it was one of those games that everyone had and enjoyed because they wanted to see how it connected with the movie. Great memories!

Ahhh. I remember this game. It really was one of my favorites for the PS2. The only thing I hated was that second car sequence.

I like how the tone of this game feels more similar in tone and visuals to the original than the sequels did, and I just love that it exists at all.

I agree I played this when I was a child and it was hands down the best game I’ve played simply cause it was a fun basic concept
People say that about every PS2 game on TH-cam.
This game was underrated for its story and gameplay, if you ask me. The fact the Watchowskis wrote and directed this shows it was taken seriously, and Sparks was a great character. Sure, it could've used more polish and wasn't as ready as it could've been upon release, but it's a great companion to Reloaded.
Now imagine if they had all these scenes in the movie AND imagine if the in-game cutscene where she evades the Smiths was shot live action. Naobi is a fucking BADASS.
The part where she gets surrounded by Smith clones in the hallway would have made a good cliffhanger for her if it was included in Reloaded. You wouldn't know if Niobe escaped or got out of the matrix safely until you bought the game and played it, or wait until Revolutions came out.
I remember the gameplay to be sort of a guilty pleasure. You know you do the same move 10 thousand times, but it's still satisfying

Man that first animated cutscene with Ghost's monologue always struck me as super cool as fuck.

I love the aesthetic for Reloaded and Revolutions. It's so refined.

It would be awesome if they put all the love action scenes in the Matrix Reloaded and made an Ultimate Edition of it
This is literally it's own playable movie, I still play this and Path of Neo and so do my kids. Guess Resurrections was on to something with the Trilogy having been videogames. Path of Neo is pretty much a trilogy game.

Jada played the fuck out of this role. I don't think I've seen her in anything else, but she did such a good job with Niobe.
Also..."The path of the one is made by the many"...Very interesting words from The Oracle, I dont remember her ever saying anything like this in the movies.
She said what she needed to say for Niobe to volunteer her ship and to have faith in Neo.
First I was like "Oh its in HD! Good." Then I was like "Oh."

Man this game was so amazing when it came out!!! Way way ahead of any other game or fight mechanic for its time….everybody loved this game cause of the cutscenes too cause the matrix popularity at the time was ENORMOUS! Always wished we got at least 2-3 sequels for this game 😭

@@leocastrillo759 yeah if you think about it. When he says past experiences can never prove the future. That links into the fact that there's been 6 versions of the matrix and in the past 5 versions they have been lead by a prophecy that has only restarted the matrix every single time.

Never quite understood why lots of people hated this game....for the time it was good, it was everything a Matrix game was supposed to be, except you didn't play as the main cast from the movie. It basically WAS a spinoff movie and a great one at that. Also along with "Final Flight Of The Osiris" from Animatrix it made Reloaded a lot better to me, as I knew tons of other stuff was going on in the background....
No idea if you didnt notice it but the gameplay was HORRIBLE. Just like the animations. There was nothing good in this game beside of Matrix universe, story and Soundtrack. Everything a movie needs. But gameplay, fuck me. Couldnt finish it due to the fact that it was just so horrible. Path Of Neo improved on this luckily.

It was technically done better than Path of Neo. Controls were way more streamlined and the driving missions were top notch. It should have a remake

This is the only game that I enjoyed even though it was buggy. I hope this is eventually cleaned up and rereleased.

Funny that most matrix fans don’t even know this exist lol….I played this on launch day and was blown away because I never played a game like this which is tied to a movie so closely

this game was ok, i remember getting it when it came out for me ps2. i only got it for the story as i loved the films and animatrix, and this just completes the whole thing. its pretty innovative for the time, but boy did it have its issues. it came out at a time when games like metal gear solid 2 and 3 , and final fantasy 12 were pushing the consoles to theyre limits (dont know bout xbox, never had one) and in comparrison, the graphics here could have been a heck of a lot better and the animations were really clunky, and the controls certainly had issues too. but like i said, from the view of tying in with the film, that was amazing. the story kinda interweaved into the matrix 2, and the fact that some of the cutscenes were live action, using the same actors from the film, and probably having the same production value, was pretty ballsy. and thats why its a must have. despite its failings in some respects, it more than makes up for them in others. i wish i still owned it.

I was fairly alone on the mater in the day, but I really liked it. I played it through several times over with pizza and soda riding shotgun on many a late night. I have fond memories of this game. ^_^

The game sucked, but the project itself was commendable. To have a story in multiple media was very ambitious. The "package" was the drop from the Animatrix, and this game is referencing both that event in the animation as well as moving forward the story from the movies. This was the attempt of making a Marvel Cinematic Universe before Marvel.
That's a horrible comparison. The MCU consists of independent films that tie into a larger story but still work on their own.
The Matrix was all one interconnected story where you need every piece to understand what's happening.
This had been done before in Star Wars with Shadows Of The Empire, which told an interconnected story across a video game, books, comics, etc.

Fucken bought this game 3 times. 3 times the cds came out flawed. I never got to finish the game because the damn cds were screwed with flaw. I finally get to watch it all. 🙌

erbgorre I thought so too. I always loved the game, it was fun. It's funny looking at the reviews of it now, I realized the critics hated the game. haha That's exactly why should always try a game yourself, because back then I had a blast with this game, if I would have read the reviews then I would have never played it.
Gamer's Little Playground i was actually playing the PC port since i didnt have a PS2. but it really did caprure the matrix feel either way, thats the most important part. just wall-running and kicking an agent in the face or doing cart-wheels while shooting your rifle in slow-mo really felt right somehow :D
also, just the fact that they actually went to the trouble of shooting those extra scenes purely for the game was really something, like who else was gonna do something like that at that time? really massively underrated game
