Look at the first few moments of this debate and the aggressive stare down Juan Cole fires at the other guy?

Mearsheimer only tells half of what the Israel-Lobby is really about - like Walt he has no clue about economics for example. But what he says is 100% correct and sufficient to be called 'Truth' at least.
Juan Cole gives great insight into the history of Israel and her surrounding neighbours' perception of the conflict - even though sadly he somehow missed the Ha'avara-Agreement I must admit I never heard of the practices of 'denaturalisation' policies of Franco's Spain or Europe as a whole at that time - he is a very interesting person, he once even became a believer of the Bahai' Relgion...
    Many thanks for the upload!!!

This is the best insight on the future of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict I have seen or read. They really hit each point relevant to predicting an end to the conflict. Sadly, they don't see a solution any time soon. The Israeli people are ultimately driving this train, and if they don't want to give up their aspirations of a "greater Israel" the US isn't going to do anything to make them.

    Comments on John Mearsheimer:
    Unconditional US Aid:
US provides Aid to Israel and Egypt due to the treaty it helped sign between the two countries.
On one hand it ensured Egypt would remain an ally or sphere of influence as well as provide safe passage of US ships while Israel will be assured of a relatively peaceful border as well as a continued military qualitative advantage to its neighbors.
This is why there are no conditions and should be no conditions.
    Terrorism:
John suggests he believes the US can solve the problem of terrorism.
John points at Khalid sheik Muhammed as proof of why US should not have a special relationship with Israel.
As if the reason US suffers from terrorism is Israel.
No one can believe that. Even Mr Mearsheimer said ONE OF THE REASONS WHY US SUFFERS FROM TERRORISM...
But common, blaming the lobby for its support of Israel and suggesting its because of Israel that US suffers from terrorism is bogus.
As if- If US would completely break ties with Israel the US would not suffer from terrorism.
Why doesnt he quote Osama Ben Laden who hates America for the Man Made Freedoms and not GODS RULE OF LAW? Why doesnt he quote the Taliban who see US as the great Satan for letting men and woman sleep with each other and protect them legally and equally.
    Egypt:
Blaming Israel for not cutting off Aid to Egypt is ridiculous.
Is it really in US interest to lose Egypt as a friendly country & while doing so supporting the Muslims Brotherhood?
I say lose Egypt because Egypt quickly invited the Russians to come & started negotiations on docking rights for Russian ships.
I ask about supporting the Muslim Brotherhood who didnt consult & build the new constitution with minorities but only with Islamists.
Is it in US interest the Sharia be implemented in Egypt as it was implemented in Afghanistan?
Blaming Israeli lobby for not cutting off aid to Egypt shows a lack of understanding as to what US Interests are.
    Syria:
    Red Line:
Why does John blame Israel for pressing for a red line on Chemical weapons?
Does he suggest the largest & most powerful country in the world just sit on the side as Assad uses chemical weapons on his opposition like Saddam used chemical weapons?
    Should this be acceptable?
And If the Israeli lobby is so powerful as he claims it is - why did the US not go to war with Syria?
There is a bit of hypocrisy here...
    Iran:
Blaming Israel for pressuring congress on Iran is ridiculous.
As if there arent a lot of congressmen or senate members who dont believe Iran wants a deal & who think they are out to get the bomb.
Furthermore, anyone sitting on national security committees or Iraq/Afghan war committees knows very well Iran is directly responsible for supporting financially & militarily the ambush & death of US soldiers.
Blaming Israel and the Israeli lobby for US decisions is childish & nonsense.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Summery
It is not in US interest to support Palestinians terrorists.
-As if, if only Israel would not build in the West Bank there would be peace
-As if, Israel doesnt recognize peace is in her national interest & hasent sacrificed for her
-As if, the Palestinians are a partner to peace.
Its not in US interest to cut off Aid to Egyptians.
-As if, Egyptians would not topple the Islamist leader who wanted to implement Sharia
-As if the Egyptians cannot go to other world powers like China or Russia to find better partners
Its not in US interest to support Islamic extremists like Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood who are authoritarian & tried to take over dictatorship powers like Husni Mubarak
Its not in US interest to let countries use chemical weapons at their disposal to shut up the oppositions.
-Blaming only Israel for that pressure is evil - why doesnt he mention Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Qatar?
Its not in US interest to enable Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
-Congressmen & Senators have clear evidence Iranians are trying to reach a bomb and are fearful of that case.
    - As they were fearful with North Korea - yet now it has it
    - would it not be wise to be fearful of the Iranians and pressure them as much as possible?
Blaming Israel for the pressure lacks understanding of the magnitude!
Basically he blames Israel for all of US policy failures or US policy which doesnt agree with his own.
This is a very twisted mindset

Why not? After all, they didn't object Saddam's gassing of Iranians and Kurds.
