    WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE VIDEO: Is the fact that Close goes to the art store and says "I'm not going to buy any paint" but she does anyways, that rings a bell, when I say I'll go to the art store only to look I won't buy anything, and there I go buying more then 100$ worth of art supply. The art store for artist is heaven on earth!!!

    As someone in the UK it's wild to think of Hobbycraft as having cheaper prices than US stores! The Works paint is cheap and cheerful, but it's my go-to shop for brushes and their gouache set isn't half bad for the price.

    • @yuzu-tsuyu
      @yuzu-tsuyu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      So I think she's forgetting (or maybe unaware?) that prices on Michael's and Joann's are usually artificially high because they always have ridiculous coupons available (40% off one 'regular price' item, 25% off total order including sale items, etc. and they currently have 60% off all 'holiday' goods.) It's just a dumb marketing tactic. But I agree with her that British brands definitely much cheaper there--sometimes I shop off the Cult Pens website for British stuff, even though the free ship to US minimum is high, because the markup here is huge!!

      Don't know about anyone else on our side of the pond, but I always get the impression from American crafters that Joann's/Michael's are dirt cheap with an endless variety of "things". It's really interesting to see someone do a direct comparison with a shop - Hobbycraft - that I consider too expensive to bother visiting most of the time, and tell us we're on to a good thing.

    Nobody else does art supply shopping vids quite like this! The authentic excitement and "kid in a candy store" energy combined with a professional's savvy make these some of our favorites. Then you should definitely contact someone in advertising and tell them to sponsor her on a Blick’s shopping spree! We always think of Hobbycraft as extremely expensive! I think you’re the first person I’ve known whose described it as reasonable! I’m surprised it has more craft stuff then Michaels, I’ve always wanted to go to Michaels! My dream is to do a trolly dash in Hobbycraft and be allowed to just grab craft kit after craft kit (and then ribbon!). Post Pals buys so much stuff from The Works, it’s our go to place for craft kits for the kids.
    Loved your enthusiasm!

    this was a very interesting perspective callibration for me: hobbycraft always feels so expensive to me so it's wild to learn that it felt reasonable to you, especially considering how cheap US art/craft stores Seem from the outsider pov. i hope everything arrived back home with you safely, and hope you have the best time painting that advent calendar!!

    • @AlexaFaie
      @AlexaFaie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I suppose it depends what you're after. Like brands being imported always raises the price. But its still relative to what you can afford based on cost of living and income. Hobbycraft can have good deals for some things, but for others the price point can be higher than elsewhere. I generally search around to check out where is selling the same thing to get the best price and only tend to end up picking somewhere if its the best price, or only place you can get the thing.
      I must say I get quite jealous of the Halloween stores they have in America. Wish we had those here!

    I LOVE The Works. The paint you mentioned is great for beginners and students alike or even for people on a budget. The brand it’s self is hit and miss, the canvas are spot on, the sketch pads, not so much. @sisterslothington 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well also to be fair they're two VERY different colored pencils in terms of what you use them for in a technical sense. I like both but I'll use Prismacolor for blendy stuff and Polychromos for small, fine details!

    • @Glacenair

    As far as the Works goes; their art supplies are rather hit & miss. And it's really fun knowing to knit left and right handed, so if you're making a flat piece (like a scarf or blanket) you can just go back and forth instead of turning the piece after every row. Would love to watch you learn!

      Yeah I was going to say it doesn't really make a huge difference. My mum is left handed and taught me (right handed) to knit and I can't see that we do a lot different. I have switched to Portuguese knitting style as an adult so I think it's normal for us knitters to change things up in so many different ways and it's pretty easy to pick up the techniques and adapt them.

    What I like about the video: You are such a mood! You go in for one specific thing and get distracted by everything else, which ends up throwing off your other plans and making your life just that much harder for the day. I look forward to getting to watch you do stuff with the things you've gotten!

    I am a professional artist and I personally prefer Golden paints. They have the largest pigment load compared to any of the other brands that you mentioned. Now if I am going to paint a commission job using an XL canvas I just use acrylic house paint. You can pick house paint here at the city or county recycle centers for FREE! Free is most often my favorite option, lol. I did enjoy watching you shop the UK art store. It is fun to see what other places carry.

    If you need to pack paint or sauce or anything like that, that might spill, I recommend putting it inside a ziplock style plastic bag, even double bagged, and then packing that, so hopefully even if it spills it still won't get all over your suitcase

    What I like about this video:
    How relatable it is for other artists, or me at least. I also have that whole ‘child in a candy store’ vibe when I find a new art store. And I always have a tendency to buy art supplies I don’t need. An employee at an art shop I frequent even brought it up once 😂

    Loved your video, Chloe!!!
    What I especially loved about your video this time was seeing you exploring art stores I myself have access to physically, given the fact I'm Scottish. It was really interesting to see how our stores compared to the stores you have access to when you are back home in American, not only in prices but also in the different range of art supplies and choices available to artists and crafters out there.
    It's also very funny and reassuring to know I'm not the only one who goes into an art store thinking I can't get too much or I only need something in particular but find it difficult to reign in my inner arty/crafting demon 😅
    I really hope you had a nice time visiting your family in the UK and I look excited to see your upcoming videos on the advent calendars.

    It’s a good thing I’ve never gone into an art store while in the uk cause I saw so so so much stuff in the background I wanted and was a killer deal. When I went to Scotland I found a yarn store that had the most incredible yarn for around £5 that goes for about $30 here. I bought almost $100 worth and had to leave stuff behind since it wouldn’t all fit in my suitcase.

      If you can't fit your purchases into your suitcase, you could parcel them up and post them to your home address or wherever you collect your mail. That's what we did when we bought something that was too heavy for the plane. Just a thought.

    WHAT I LOVEEEEDD ABOUT THE VIDEO!!: 1. Chloe buying paint after saying she doesn’t need more paint is 100% me, 2. Chloe’s statement about wanting something but know you don’t need it nor will you use it which is also me, 3. THE WHOLE VIDEO, 4. Chloe saying she may need another bag, and finally 5. Chloe saying she found her section about two times because it had Disney Winnie the Pooh 😂❤

    As a Brit and a crafter this makes me smile as I rarely go to hobbycraft as I find it expensive compared to buying on smaller craft stores online here. I only use hobbycraft if I need something instantly. So for you to say some items are about the same or cheaper at hobbycraft surprised me.
    Also Christmas panels are fabric panels that you can turn into quilts, stockings, advent calendars etc. It's usually pre printed with a design and the markings to cut them out and ready to sew.

    Time to pack gifts for your family so when you visit the craft store, you have room in your case or pack a collapsible suitcase? Zip locks are great packing tools. If a package blows, the zip lock protects the rest of the stuff. Handy with shampoos too. My favorite part was seeing all the fun crafting things that are different than U.S. and glad to know you got to make a visit to family!! 🤗😍
