This is a daily vlog of a Russian in Russia.
Life From Russia Inside Russia
HISTORY LESSON : Although in August 1939 the Soviet Union and Germany had signed a nonaggression treaty, Germany’s June 1941 invasion of the USSR brought their alliance to an end, forcing the Soviets to confront the Nazis as enemies. President Franklin D. Roosevelt convinced Congress the U.S. should provide military aid to nations “vital to the defense of the United States.”
“We cannot, and we will not, tell [them] that they must surrender, merely because of present inability to pay for the weapons which we know they must have.”
Under the Lend-Lease Act, enacted nine months before the U.S. entered the war, Washington dispatched war supplies to Great Britain, China and the Soviet Union. While the U.S. and the USSR disagreed in other areas, the threat Hitler posed to the world brought them to a common objective.
Technically, the U.S. lent these materials. As Roosevelt told cost-conscious Americans:
“Suppose my neighbor’s home catches fire. … If he can take my garden hose and connect it up with his hydrant I may help him to put out his fire. Now, what do I do? I don’t say to him before that operation, ‘Neighbor, my garden hose cost me $15; you have got to pay me $15 for it.’ I don’t want $15 - I want my garden hose back. In other words, if you lend certain munitions, and munitions come back after the war, you are all right.”
Ultimately, the U.S. did not seek or expect much in the way of monetary repayment. Some wartime debts were later settled at a greatly reduced rate, but Lend-Lease was mostly a grant by the United States, the nation Roosevelt called the “arsenal of democracy” to its partners against Nazism and fascism.
After Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union in June 1941, America sent the first convoys with goods to the Soviet Union by August.
The scope of the aid is detailed by Russia Beyond, an online publication of Russia’s state newspaper (Rossiyskaya Gazeta), and also by many historians, including U.S. policy analyst Albert L. Weeks in his 2004 book Russia’s Life-Saver: Lend-Lease Aid to the USSR in World War II.
In the final tally, America sent its Russian ally the following military equipment:
400,000 jeeps and trucks
14,000 airplanes
8,000 tractors
13,000 tanks
And these supplies:
More than 1.5 million blankets
15 million pairs of army boots
107,000 tons of cotton
2.7 million tons of petroleum products (to fuel airplanes, trucks and tanks)
4.5 million tons of food
Americans also sent guns, ammunition, explosives, copper, steel, aluminum, medicine, field radios, radar tools, books and other items.
The U.S. even transported an entire Ford Company tire factory, which made tires for military vehicles, to the Soviet Union.
From 1941 through 1945, the U.S. sent $11.3 billion, or $180 billion in 2016 dollars, in goods and services to the Soviets.
The difference it made : In a November 1941 letter to Roosevelt, Soviet Premier Josef Stalin wrote:
“Your decision, Mr. President, to give the Soviet Union an interest-free credit of $1 billion in the form of materiel supplies and raw materials has been accepted by the Soviet government with heartfelt gratitude as urgent aid to the Soviet Union in its enormous and difficult fight against the common enemy - bloodthirsty Hitlerism.”
At a dinner toast with Allied leaders during the Tehran Conference in December 1943, Stalin added: “The United States … is a country of machines. Without the use of those machines through Lend-Lease, we would lose this war.”
Nikita Khrushchev, who led the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, agreed with Stalin’s assessment. In his memoirs, Khrushchev described how Stalin stressed the value of Lend-Lease aid: “He stated bluntly that if the United States had not helped us, we would not have won the war.”
Unearthing a forgotten story
The former Museum of the Allies and Lend-Lease, in Moscow, offered physical evidence of America’s contributions to the Soviet war effort.
When the museum opened in 2004, the son of Soviet Marshal K.K. Rokossovsky donated his father’s American-made World War II Willys jeep. The museum displayed the still-operational vehicle and even took it on occasional driving trips. The museum also showcased a unique collection of uniform buttons carrying Soviet symbols on the front and stamped “Made in Chicago” on the back.
The museum is no longer active, but its former director, Nikolai Borodin, remains dedicated to publicizing the Lend-Lease story. In addition to military aid, he says, the U.S. sent food, clothes and toys to Russian civilians.
Under Lend-Lease, “whatever was asked for was received,” he says.
Leaders’ reflections
In his May 9, 2005, remarks at a Moscow parade honoring the 60th anniversary of the Allied victory against Nazi Germany, Russian President Vladimir Putin honored Russian sacrifices - the USSR suffered more casualties than any other force engaged in the war - and acknowledged Allied help in winning World War II.
Putin noted that “61 nations and almost 80 percent of the world’s population” were affected by the war in some way, and Allied help was integral to defeating Hitler.
“Dear friends, we never divided the victory into ours and someone else’s,” Putin said. “We will always remember the assistance from the Allies: the United States of America, Great Britain, France and other nations of the anti-Hitler coalition, [plus] German and Italian anti-fascists.”
Decades earlier, addressing the U.K. House of Commons shortly after Roosevelt’s death in April 1945, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill hailed the late president for ensuring the delivery of U.S. aid to the Allies during the largest armed conflict in human history.
Roosevelt, Churchill said, “devised the extraordinary measure of assistance called Lend-Lease, which will stand forth as the most unselfish and unsordid financial act of any country in all history.”
American leaders, for their part, were well satisfied that the Lend-Lease program helped achieve their objective: the defeat of Hitler.
In Britain we were asked to repay with interest every penny the Americans lent us. We made our last payment in 2006.
I'm not reading all that. Someone give me the Cliff notes.
The US armed the Soviet Union through the Lend Lease program. Tens of thosands of planes, tanks, and Jeeps were sent. Also, ammunition. The Soviet Union could not have defeated the Nazis without the arms and supplies that the US provided. Stalin even said so himself.
So true, the whole world knows and remembers this. But the genocidal murderer Putler's propaganda has been trying to delete this from history books and narrative. All this in pursue of his personal ambition of trying to recreate his delusional ruzzian empire of the XXI century.
Which as we can see already failed and is taking his country to a new and far worse demise.
Do not forget THOUSANDs AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDs of american soldiers.
@@bambinaforever1402 The defeat of the Nazis was a group effort, but the Soviets did most of the heavy lifting, with the help of US arms. Had they not been there, the Allies probably would not have succeeded. I cannot prove this, but it is rational conclusion because the Soviets destroyed and took captive over a million Nazi troops as well a destroying vast amounts of their equipment. They made the job in the West much easier for the US, Great Britain, and our allies.
The majority of the major battles were already over before that aid even arrived
The majority of the major battles were already over before that aid even arrived
Here in the USA, we used to have hundreds of POW camps all throughout the country for the German and Italian prisoners. They were treated very well here. They had a warm bed, well fed, had medical care and worked for pay, and played sports. A pow said that he never felt free until he was a prisoner in our country. Germans didn't want to end up a prisoner to the Soviets so they would surrender to the Americans. Even the American civilians here in the USA knew these Germans were killing our young soldiers, but they were still treated humanely.
Kinda like Jesse owens eating with white people in nazi German restaurants. But shunned by our president and segregated in the states. What propaganda do you believe?
The Jesuit the Jude’s or the philosopher? Who’s propaganda gains the riches in todays world. When races are religions the gentiles suffer.
Tell this to the prisoners of Abu Ghraib
My neighbor, a WWII vet, was stationed at a POW camp in Texas during WWII. He made a lot of friends with German prisoners and maintained contact with them after the war ended. My neighbor is Jewish, BTW and his wife had to flee Germany in the 1930s. Somehow they were able to see beyond the hatred they had personally experienced.
Yeah, that's a very nice talking point. But Americans didn't lose 27 million of their people fighting the Nazis as the Soviets did. And 80% of the entire German army wasn't taken out by America but by the USSR. I wonder how nice Americans would have been to prisoners if the USA had lost 27 MILLION souls to the Nazis? As a matter of fact, the US tortured lots of Germans to death without having suffered anywhere near the losses of the Soviets. I do wish anti-Russian creeps would get their facts straight just once in a while.
Hi Ivan, I remember world war 2 well and the battle around Moscow, since I was born in 1933 in Germany. After the war I met with lots of Russian soldiers and learned some Russian words from them. Also I saw lots of the weapons they used during the war, but I also nearly got killed.
Thankfully you are here to tell us this story.
God Bless you. What a life you must've lived
So you're 90 years old using TH-cam?
@@ptrekboxbreaks5198 Isn't that cool!
@ptrekboxbreaks5198 so what. Don't be age shaming. Who cares how old a person is. He has a right to be on TH-cam the same as you.
That is a big kitty. At first I thought you were cooking dinner for your kitty. This is the first time I have watched channel. I am an American, and I really enjoyed your video. Take care.
Did you know that they were allies with Germany and Hitler and also invaded poland only until Hitler tried stabbing Stalin in back
they weren't allies, they signed a non-aggression pact and agreed to divide Poland up. When Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa he broke that Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, but at no time were the Soviets and Germans operating together
@@SantomPh they were fighting together to to invade Poland and had parades together where the red army marched alongside the Nazis. I would say they were allies until that pact was broken
yep@@SantomPh
I love Evalina participating in your vlogs. Thank you for translating for us.
And your go pro looks way better!
Glad you like them!
Loved the vlog, hated the clickbait. That was a very interesting museum and a good day. Stay safe Ivan, Evelina and Eduardo. And Ivan, stop scaring us to death! 😉
Techically correct heading... just forgot to have 1940 included. 😁
Im sorry!
@@SanctionedIvan Clickbait about a sensitive topic comrade. Mobilization for races, ethnicities, religions and localities other than your own? So it’s just a western big city Russian male’s idea of a joke? With half a million men facing mobilization but not you? With about 500 a day dying each day. Not a good joke.
Clickbait again @SanctionedIvan
Of course it was clickbait.
Awesome video Ivan! Finally, Pechenka has his vaccination, I am sure he is happy it is over with, no more cone of shame and no more needles. Evelina's driving skills are improving, soon she will fill out the documents, pay the fee, and take the theoretical and practical tests! How cool is that. Those noodle things are crap, but Evelina was speaking English with ease, it is good that we can make her feel comfortable enough to open up to us. вы очень очаровательны (you are very charming). Wow! A Soviet museum, I love it! So much cool stuff, it always amazes me how they did so much with so little, all the world's soldiers not only Russia. It is easy to imagine that original stuff being used by people. That jeep would make a great replacement for the Oka. Very rich in history this museum is. Edward like to shop I see, this is good. Really like these longer videos, kак всегда, спасибо большое (as always, thank you very much).
Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah Evelina is really improving on her driving skills! I really like looking at historical stuff it's always so interesting. Yes hopefully pechenka doesn't have to go to the vet clinic this year
My dad fought for the Philipines in WW2.
Was in Solomon Islands, Canary Islands, Fiji Islands and forgot where else, over three years of time no leave til injured bad and played dead after his whole platoon killed.
If you get to those places check out what museums they may have.
LOL, going to the vet with my cats is agony. They sense what is happening at least a 1/2 hour before and immediately hide. Getting them into their carriers can be a painful experience. Once in the car, the first order of business for them is to pee in their carriers. Then the deafening yawling begins.
That's one well behaved cat. Ps. Huge fan of Marshall Zhukov's work in Berlin 👍
To joe cambodia. Well, I saw a t.v. programme, about how Russia had to build new arms factories in the east, when the Nazis attacked Russia in the west.
The factories were built quickly, but workers had to live IN TENTS beside the factory! In the Russian winter! Zhukov said he was not going to build proper homes for the workers. If they died of cold, in tents, Zhukov said they could always get more workers!
you should challenge Evelina to tell us a word or phrase in english on each vlog, to help her with learning it. the few times i have heard her speak english, i am cheering her on her goal of learning english. but that might help with her learning it. i would love to watch her progress on this channel. i do like hearing her speak russain, too. just hard to focus on listening, as i have to read what she is saying, lol. i think i want to work on learning russian. some of my technicians are work are from russia. they know really good english, so i am sure they help me with learning it to, by talking to them in russian, once i get to a point i can do that. i think i am going to make that a goal of mine. if you have any good resources online, youtube channels, etc, that would be good resources for me to look up, let me know! love all your videos. no matter if others think some are boring. when i started looking for russian vloggers, this is the type of channel i was hoping to find. there is one other good channel i watch, but most are just the person doing more of a podcast style of video, but i want to see see the people out in the communities of their countries, no matter the the country. just hard to find. if anyone knows any good channels they want to share with me, please do. thanks for all you 2 do on this channel, loving it!
Try not reading out loud then perhaps you can hear what she is saying in Russian, if you are unable to read and listen @ the same time then talk to your doctor. Oh make sure your doctor is not Russian.
Agree - Evelina should say something new in English each episode.
Don't get mobilized. Stay safe!
🤡
Edward and Evelina are wonderful in your videos. Love watching your relationship and adventures. Take care.
Thank you very much!
Hi Ivan. Thanks for sharing. I love museums and history. How is Evelina doing. How is your apartment renovation going. Your vlogs are interesting and fun. Keep up the good work. 👍
Hey ! Evelina is way better now. The apt paused because of the builders who messed everything up. But I'm going to be getting it all started up again very soon
I love how you care about the cats, Pechenka is gorjus as is your other cat. Those self heat foods are based on army rations, MRE's with a bag with one of those heat things in to hea tup food. Genius invention & good in a time of no electricity.. Shame it wasnt a good choice.
MRE is way better then those noodles tho lol
My head is spinning....there was so much awesome legendary content today. TU Ivan Miss Evelina and the handsome lad Eduardo😊 good luck with your school year. Love you guys ❤❤
I reckon forced conscription of innocent citizens should be internationally outlawed.
I went through the museum in Krakow at Schindler's factory 10 years ago. It chronicles the events of WWII starting from the initial invasion in Sept 1939 through to the end of the war. This tour reminds me of that museum.
The Giant long Rifle was an Anti-Tank Rifle Ivan
No history lessons here, you've got a great attitude cos you've seen both sides of the fence, not every one gets that chance, hope ya mum and sisters OK through these tough times, keep up the good attitude, who cares about other idiots,Dave from the UK
Your understanding of the English lanquage is very good Well done you!
We have a good Museum in London the Imperial War Museum worth a look, people forget that in WW2 the British North Atlantic fleet kept the food supply routes open to Russia its such a pity that the older generation in Russia now hate us in the UK.
Take care Bob.
That thing you called a projector was a search light. They had a lot of them. Then gunners on the ground would shoot anti aircraft guns and try to shoot down the Nazi planes. The Anti Aircraft guns shot shells that were set to explode at a certain height. The Shrapnel would then damage the airplanes and they would crash.
Oh wow thanks for sharing the info. Its really interesting
As you said, loved your FSB tail.😎😎😎😎
She looked more kgb to be honest lol
the vet clinic looks better than most russian hospitals for humans
I can't but wonder what that museum will look like 10 years from now.
The museum is already very old
Very cool, thanks for sharing this experience!
Great vlog Ivan! That was an awesome museum. I hope that lady was giving you info on the stuff as you went and not just following you...i wish the US and Russia could still be allies😢. See you soon💙🇺🇸
Lol nope, she was just following me around lol. Probably thought I was a foreign spy or something like that lol. It's funny the way she thought that I didn't feel her presence. To be honest with you it was a bit weird
You English is so good dude! Very impressive
"Questionable".....classic. This is why I like you guys...
As a student I had an Olympia typewriter.
Alaska is one way they got planes and cargo to Russia. You can still see many airfields left from that time. Some in remote areas are gone due to changing river channels, others are still in use today.
Your cat should not be on the table where the food is at.😱
This is a very cool military museum! Thanks for the tour.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend!
Great museum tour except for the свинья in yellow following you around
400,000 jeeps and trucks
14,000 airplanes
8,000 tractors
13,000 tanks
11.3 billion in aid from US including over 10 million tons of food.
This museum up to 2004 used to display numerous American military equipment and documentation of the help that America gave the Soviet Union.
Keep up the good work Ivan, you rock
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the video of the museum in Russia I enjoyed the tour! Sending my greetings from Orlando Florida USA 😊
Oh Hey! Glad you enjoyed the video!
The museum tour was great love ww2 history, the go pro has better picture quality.
The kitty says: "Hey, it's OK, I'm down with it."
Hi Ivan
Loved the museum tour, plenty of information
Glad you enjoyed it !
Thanks for the museum tour Ivan. Seeing all of the historical weapons, posters and equipment used way back then was very interesting. Always enjoy Evelina and Edwards company in the video's as well! I think Evelina knows more English word's than we know! Pretty soon she will be narrating your video's in English and surprising us all! Always a pleasure watching your video's Ivan! ❤❤❤😊
Thanks Lori ! Im glad you enjoy the videos!
@@SanctionedIvan ❤️❤️❤️❣️😊
Not really a fan of the lady following you like you were stealing from the museum. Comes across as really unfriendly. Unless she was giving you a guided tour and explaining things. Otherwise. . .negative comment card for her 🤣There are so many awesome Japanese quick cook dishes like that Chinese one that I've seen here. We have several huge Asian Markets here in the city. Great way to try new things.
Just guessing, but I doubt she cares about your review of her performance 😂
no lol she was just following me around. Probably an old kgb lady not trusting a guy speaking English into a mysterious small object lol
@@SanctionedIvan
The vet clinic looked better than the medical clinic you went to last week.
i love museums so thank you very much for sharing!!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
The actual military mre meals I seen here was like a tv dinner tray and food below, heat pack on top, poke a hole, drop tiny bit of water in hole and activates heat pack.
Once done rip top off and eat.
I like going to the vet, as much as your lovely kitty. STRESS. But they had a treat, so all is well.
You made that museum tour very interesting well done Ivan you the man bro
He rode in the car like that??? Whoa, he's a big boy! Wherever you are it's beautiful! Evalina is very good with those chopsticks.
I own 3 different Mosin Nagant rifles. I have fired two of the three and they have quite a kick. The third one needs a little more fine tuning on the bolt and chamber before I will be able to try it out. The ammo is 762X54R caliber (R indicates Russian). Have you seen the movie "Enemy at the Gates"? Story of Vasily Grigoryevich Zaitsev at the battle of Stalingrad.
That was a very interesting museum. The GAZ60 most likely is the Jeep Willys by another name. It was made by the same manufacturer. It’s like in modern times where the same car I Japan, the U.K. and the US have a completely different name, but their appearance is the same (except for right hand drive in the U.K. of course😉).
You’re a fellow cat daddy! Much respect!
Enjoyed the museum.
Enjoyed the museum
Gad you enjoyed it
I guess I`m more of a cat person for a pet.Dogs need a lot of attention to treat them well.Seems like you got a pretty calm one,my last cat hated car travel.
Poor Cookie! He was such a good boy. His clinic looked much nicer than the hospital from hell Evelina was at. Yes, Winchesters are American. When you come to California you should check out the Winchester Mystery House, it is very unusual. The museum was interesting and so were the strange noodles. I've never seen anything like them.
Yeah cookie is very smart! I would love to check out the Winchester mystery house one day for sure!
Great museum tour, the lady there was on your ass,Lol..
You are such a great host, you do it well.. Edward and Evelina are such a valuable addition to your vlogs..
Man here on the other side we hear how Russia is running low on soldiers, and a new wave of mobilization is going to go into effect in the coming months. .
Please stay safe my Russian brother. .
And work on getting your new Escalade ,,loved the vlog
Thanks!
Ingenious way of cooking😂 crazy cool but doesn't suprise me it doesn't taste good
Ivan just FYI, the round sliced vegetable with the holes in it in your soup is called "lotus root." It's the tuberous under-water root of the water lily or lily pad. It's very mild cooked by itself, but takes on the flavours of what it's cook with. My favourite way is stir-fried with fermented bean paste (preferably the hot one with chilli). It's an "acquired" taste, some may say "stinky", but I'd get a kick out of seeing you try it (for the content, man!). You'd have to find a real Chinese restaurant with a good Chinese chef. If you can't find it, buy a little bottle of "fermented bean curd with chilli" from a Chinese grocer. A very small amount is used to flavour what you're cooking (think strong cheese, LOL). It's good! Do it for the content, bro!
Truely disgusting. Have tried it on many ocassions to no avail. I guess they have nothing better to eat in that horrible part of the world.
The picture is very clear and good, as good as the gopro.
I really enjoyed the Patriotic war Museum tour. There is a newer one near Moscow build around a new St.Goerge Cathedral, much much larger and even more flippin amazing, than the one on this video.
i saw it onthe "Through the eyes of Anja" channel. Very nice Polish Lady.
Would be really cool, if Evelina and you could make another video tour.
Evelina is a classic Eastern European Beauty Queen. Captivating
New subscriber here, not sure why your channel showed up on my feed but I'm glad it did, hope to see you at 100k subs soon!
Really interesting video, I like anything to do with ww2 and it's really good to see Russian museum with artifacts from the war. Here in uk old Russian war items you don't really see a lot of, to be honest it is as rare as rocking horse sht! 😂 great video my friend ✌🏽
Clearly, Ewelina's driving instructor is "Speedy Gonzales" Ivan!!! Loving the confidence, Ewelina.
Yeah she is getting better and better every day!
Eduard is close to the conscription (not mobilization) age. Is he going to be able to avoid that with college school or something?
Students are exempt both from conscription and mobilisation
Also, Ivan mentioned in the Comments that Edward has only started his last but one school year (10th out of the total of 11). Normally, in Russia it means the person's age is between 15.5 and almost 17.
Too young to be conscripted/mobilised anyway
@@gvsku Ivan has said Edward is 17
@@Andrew-ky8oc8cq4n then his parents must have chosen to send him to school at 8))) which is not very typical but still possible when the child doesn't seem intellectually/emotionally ready for school... or has some health issues.
Anyway, 17 is too young for conscription/Mobilisation.
Ivan,
that was a flameless ration heater in those Chinese noodles you ate, they produce hydrogen as a waste gas, that might be what you were tasting. oh, that Winchester rifle in that WW2 museum was a model 1895 rifle made for the Russian army in WW1 in 7.62x54R.
Water cresents look like potatoe slices.
Most times they are really good but depends on dinner they in.
It’s lotus not Potato….what u had is NOT a traditional Chinese noodle. It’s only popular in a few Provinces in China.
Interesting meal. Wow all yours dear. Very good 😊
The separate cameras will always do better Ivan 💯
The iPhone recordings look great to me! 👍
They wouldn't mobilize a family man ( Evelina and your kitties make you a family of four! 🤗🥰love and hugs
Cool museum.
I was obsessed with the MP40 in Call Of Duty 😂

The apt is paused up a little, Edward is in high school lol
Love Evelina's English. That bowl of soup is huge. Loved the vlog. Hope you don't get mobilized Ivan. Plz TC❤❤❤
Get out of Russia as fast as you can Ivan. You don't need to die in Ukraine for nothing.
That's not a museum that's a russian armory since Russia still uses those weapons in Ukraine
You're such a flippin' lucky dude !
Not good on an iPhone

I always laugh when you cut Edward out of the video just when he's trying to say something. Lol! It would be great if I knew Russian language like you know English.
It's way better with GoPro up close. But with GoPro it's impossible to see any on distance.

Be safe Ivan, politicians playing games between themselves and innocent people dying, destroying families.
not politicians but PUTLER himself.
What are you going to do when/if there is a second mobilization
It won't be easy to get out like last time
Maybe you can get out if you leave now or maybe it is already to late
I understand your reasons for returning home but could you get out now if you still wanted
I can fly anywhere right now with no problems
