Wynton just eased in and smooth 😎 played the horn with out forcing anything. His sound very different and distinctive. He even laughed on his horn. Arturo he can blow the heck out of that 🎺... sick range speed ect... just 2 styles of players outstanding. Folks had a wonderful treat.

So many negative comments. I love the conversation, Arturo really listens to Wynton and changes tack. Both artists starting out in their "comfort" zone and slow compromising their style to reflect the other. Lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Wynton made his point here. I can confirm after attending 2 jam sessions he played at.... make no mistake he's a VERY competitive player. I am not a fan of everything he says or does but one thing I will say He's constantly thinking about the melody/swing then the technique.

Arturo approaches the horn like a Trumpet player whereas Wynton approaches the horn like a vocalist. This gives Marsalis the advantage in many ways. Both players sound fantastic here though and they both have a lot of respect for each other.

But if Arturo works on his backhand, he might win the next grandslam. Stupid analysis, music is not a sport, not a competition, everyone has their own unique voice, and there's no reason to compare people, except to say "I, personally, like Wynton more, because he sounds to me more like a human voice, which I like".

Small mouthpiece and impish sound here.

I really don’t like Sandoval musical ideas ..... if you put the Rhythm ideas they are just 16th notes in a row in a scalewise form and half notes ...... I mean ..... no cadence , no good phrasing , no interesting harmonic development , just a bunch of random notes here and there , and the ugly thing is his aggressive attitude towards trumpeters , Sandoval tried to defeat Wynton but he was destroyed with class

It's just your point of view. Can I tell you my point of view? Arturo just wants to play. It shows that you are doing your best because you acknowledge the other person. But Wynton keeps trying to teach Arturo. He's not doing his best. The rude one is wynton. That's a stage where they talk to each other, no one can trying to teach anyone. Wynton always try to teaching someone. He didn't even recognize old jazz trumpet masters and always accepted their achievements selectively. If you look at the autobiography of Miles Davis, that part is detailed. 'Cause even Miles was mad at Wynton's rudeness..
Funny thing is, some people say Arturo is rather aggressive.
Arturo is not aggressive at all. He's been making music in that style all his life. Similarly, Wynton is warm and considerate when he is in a superior position, but he is always ridicule and tease like that for seniors or jazz trumpeters of the same level. That's Wynton's fight and that's his how to talk. Wynton's loyal fans are always fooled by that. Wynton should fix the rudeness.

Your musical level will not be welcomed anywhere. because you call that someone's best performance is terrifying. Arturo has done a lot of much warmer music than Wynton. And he's been working with a lot of other people. He had worked with dozens of times more people than Wynton. Is it possible if he is cocky? Is Wynton, who works closely only with the Lincoln Center family and New Orleans family, all the time, or Arturo, who works with anyone and even Wynton?
