This video I may have to look back on in the future, I have the 150 Optimax (2010). You need to clean up the boat 😂 Thanks for the time to make, and upload this video.
Thanks man been looking for the right kit to order. My motor starts up and dies and before it wouldn’t allow me to wot everything else checks out fine so this is my next step rebuilding this pump
Thanks. I have same boat and engine. I am experiencing the same problem. So far I replaced the water/separator filter, vst filter and spark plugs. I will replacing the fuel line and primer bulb this weekend. If no improvements I will be do the tear down like the video
This is super good info. We have an old mercury motor that my husband and dad have done some work on to get going and its always good to have more information!!! Hi from new friends in Canada :)
@@StanleyOrchard how reliable are those optimax?? I'm going to buy a tracker with a 90hp optimax. honestly I don't know anything about those newer 2 strokes . Any information will be very helpful thanks
@@cramos6638 i am afraid I am the wrong person to ask... i don't know much about outboards at all (only that Merc is a solid brand). But i will add @A&JOutdoors1 is my go-to for questions like this. Or if you join us for our tuesday livestream (6 pm cst) you'll have a whole crew of people with better info about this than I can give.
If it runs for 6 to 8 minutes then dies, there may be water in your fuel. Pull the fuel hose loose just after the primer bulb, squirt some into a clear bottle. Any water will settle to the bottom. Drain the VST with the hose coming out from under the fuel filter chamber.
That was actually pretty entertaining. Good catch on that filter, I wonder how you're getting all that gunk in there. You think your getting stuff in your tank? I looked on my Evinrude the fuel systems are completely different 🤦♂️
How is the plastic vacuum watched to the fuel filter housing? I need to replace mine and it looks like the last one was attached with something in the threads of the plastic vent before screwing it into the metal housing
I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about. Are you asking how the diaphragm pump attaches to the vapor canister or the drain hose on the bottom of the canister?
Thanks well done video, my 2004 200 hp opti ( new to me ) has some junk under the red fuel filter not quite as bad as yours though. Do you think i should have the injectors and fuel rail cleaned as well or have you done that? The junk in my vst is from old grey gas line detereration which previous owner replaced with new black rubber gaslines before i purchased. Another question how did you get the gas line off the vst in the bottom right corner, it has 10mm bolt and a small plate does the removel of that bolt allow the line to be removed?
@AJOutdoors1 how does that brass peice come out? I can rotate, but do i use a screwdriver or something to pry it out. I just don't want to force anything.
Can I just ask what the oblong shaped gasket is for on the back of the pump? I am in need of 1 and I think thats why my engine is having trouble running. Can it be made with nitrile gasket sheet if cut to the right size? Here's a short description of my problem. When I start the outboard via key it dies within 10 seconds but if I pump it then remove the fuel line from the engine it runs for ages and sounds perfect with the fuel in the cards but if I re attach when it's running it dies within 10 seconds again. Any help is appreciated 🙏
What motor are you working on? I'm not sure which gasket your talking about. On the 115 OptiMax (in this video) there are 3 pumps, the diaphragm pump, then inside the vapor canister are the low pressure and high pressure pumps. Either way, I don't understand how you can remove the fuel line and the engine will run for ages. With out fuel, it should die.
Do you run non ethanol gas?? I only run non-ethanol gas in mine! Also, I was gonna suggest that you change from the gray fuel line and use the braided black fuel line, because the gray has an inner part that does come apart and get in your field system! 👍
I’ve been running non-ethanol for over a year now. There are two versions of the gray hose, one with blue text on it and one with red. The newer one is supposed to be ok, but it wasn’t.
I have the same exact motor and when I start my boat, it starts right up, then dies right away. On the second try, I try starting it up again but it will just crank and not catch for about 1 minutes before catching. Once it’s on, it’ll run all day after I get it to start but in low rpm it sounds really weak. While in idle, it idls up and down. Any help will be much appreciated.
Do you squeeze the primer bulb. It does sound like a fuel delivery issue. Drain the vaper canister into a clear container to check for water. Pull the fuel filter and check it. If you have a fuel water separator, check it too.
Please read…anyone😂 2012 Optimax 75hp. Starts and idles. Gets up on plane for a minute and it will suddenly die. No stutter, or drop in rpm before it dies. Almost like the safety switch is pulled. Fuel filter changed. Kill switch connections seem clean and free from corrosion. Any help from anyone would be great.
@@AJOutdoors1 seems to the first time it dies. After it happens a couple of times it seems to have a hard and harder time started. Lots of pumping the bulb and trying to fire it back up. Some time she start again other times it has left us using the trolling motor all the way back.
@@AJOutdoors1 I replaced the red topped fuel filter in the vapor separator. When the outboard first dies, there is a single tone much like the all normal tone at start up.
@@chevydad83 On the bottom of the separator there are 2 nipples attached by a rubber hose. Pull the hose off the one under the filter, and using Allen wrench, open that nipple and drain into a clear container. Let sit, and see if there is any separation.

Very good video. It is giving me confidence to tackle it on my engine. Thanks

That was actually pretty entertaining. Good catch on that filter, I wonder how you're getting all that gunk in there. You think your getting stuff in your tank? I looked on my Evinrude the fuel systems are completely different 🤦♂️
I think some could be from bad gas, but I'm sure some is from the fuel line liner breaking down.

You just need to take off the top bolt and loosen the bottom ones. They are set in a grove and just slides out.

It wouldn’t hurt to have the injectors and rail cleaned, I didn’t. Yes, remove that bolt to disconnect that line.

How many beeps?

@@wow147457 Is the motor "peeing"? It is likely either overheating, low oil, or possibly a faulty sensor.
@@wow147457 Also do you have a fuel/water separator on it?
is it v6 or 3 cyl?
3 cyl.
That grey hose is a problem
Yes it was.
all could of been avoided with no ethanol fuel and end of the year stabalizers
