    You know what I love most about your hunting videos? How polite and friendly all of the vendors are at the market. If it were any of the markets I went to the guy who was asking you about the camera would have been so belligerent and angry about it because you didn't have his permission to film. It's refreshing to see people acting like civilized human beings.

    On a plus note, managed to get a Crumpler and Alienware laptop bag at an general sale auction for £2, made about £90 before fees/postage - guess people didn't know what they were, I was gobsmacked to only pay that.

    Great video, but it's having the knowledge about things which will sell. As I've usually sold clothes and accessories, I have knowledge about those but I want to branch out so need to learn. As retail shops can sell so cheaply now, there are not many opportunities to get cheap stuff sufficient to make profit. However, with the right knowledge obviously you're half way there. My current stock comes mainly from charity shops but nowadays even they aren't as cheap as they were. My job takes me around the country and the more affluent area charity shops always charge more.

      *Ruined by capitalism.

    • @KingRizlaa
      @KingRizlaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lovely pessimism. People still buy things they actually want, and nothing has been "ruined", as you put it. It must be a very small percentage of people, who go to boot sales, are running eBay businesses. If that was really the case, and people were going just to acquire 'stock', then surely car boot sales as a whole would be defunct, as the people selling the 'stock' from the car boots, would themselves just be listing it on eBay. Your statement if somewhat an oxymoron. People, such as myself, will go to car boot sales for the same reason you did 'back in the good ol' days' before the internet; to look for bargain records, or militaria , or an old VHS player, or a meat slicer from the 70's. Whatever you see that tickles your fancy.
      What's wrong with buying stuff from a car boot to sell on anyway? One man's trash is another man's treasure and all that jazz. Be happy. The modern world's not as bad as what you may think.

    • @sladeippie5841
      @sladeippie5841 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KingRizlaa Utter garbage. I'd go to boots in early 90's at 6am and there were only a hand full of people there. Post internet/E'bay there's now plenty of people there at 6am, many of which are dealers grabbing resalable stuff for their market stall/E'bay listings, anything for an extra quid. Also know it to be true as i have spoken to many of these dealers. It's why when on the odd occasion that i have actually sold on a boot, i don't set my stall up until 9am, after all the dealers have basically got what they want and gone.

    Used to love doing the boots down south, we made a pretty good living at it. Then we moved to Lincolnshire - bad move, space cadet! There are loads of boots on every day in the summer but pickings are much, much thinner. I think the difference is that people down south are much wealthier and when they do car boots when they want to get rid of stuff. Up here most seem to do it to make money. If you can find anything decent they will be asking the price of the most expensive example they can find on ebay. Of course the problem there is they never look at sold prices, only asking prices. As an example when we moved 8 years ago a guy had a JVC cd changer for a car, he was asking 45 quid for it. Three years later he still had it and was still asking the same for it. I suspect he still has it :-) We used to see him at 2 or 3 boots a week and always used to check, it became a long running joke. Yup, I really miss the big boots down south, we always used to come away with a car load of bargains.

    Someone (who’s not a reseller) who wants that CD would pay £4, just the same as they’d pay £5 for it from a reseller on eBay/Amazon

    • @randomrob3715
      @randomrob3715 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ArtJourneyUK I highly doubt it. People go to bootfairs for bargain. Not shop prices. I bet that woman didn’t sell any CDs that day.

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dr D-PAD does depend on the area. Some people treat bootfairs like markets and are happy to buy almost retail. If the CD is worth picking up for £1 to resell, it’s worth £4 to someone else. At the end of the day, stuff is only worth what someone else will pay for it.

  • @richylad
    @richylad 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In reply to all the comments about the camera, this is partly why Nic is successful at what he does and I would imagine that there are some weeks where a few pounds add up and are needed and can make a big difference, also don't forget that if you have a price tag of 50p or just a few pounds you are basically thinking you are piling your tat off on other people and it holds no real value to you, also If you are selling something and you can't remember your pricing, that is no one else's fault except your own.

    Your'e ruthless at the car boot Nic, lol. I know he should have remembered the price but you knew it was a bargain at £4, so I would have paid that. Id be scared of the bad karma to be honest, like the next month being baron at the car boots and charity shops as a result.

      Yes, I agree, that was bad form. Between, filming, talking to the guy, and scanning the table to see what else he had I didn't really take it in, but after watching it back I should have paid the 4 you are right, if he is there next week I will go and make it up to him....

      @@NicHills yeah it happens. I had a pick up from a house once and i was chatting to the mum of some kids for a couple of minutes, I paid her the money and left. I got a message from her the next day saying I had only paid £20 of the £30 I owed her and could I come back tomorrow and drop her the £10. My initial thought was she should have checked the money there and then, and maybe she could be lying. But I went back and dropped the money through the letter box when I was next in town. I definitely check the money now before I give it to people, as its easy to get distracted. You do seem in the profit zone at carboots, don't want to get in your way. haha!
