That bumper really changes the look of #1113. With the bumper, 20" pads and an all original, Cat wooden cab, you will have created a D2 so unique that it will rival X253. Best of all, it's still in it's work clothes. What a special project.

That bumper looks great and really adds to the overall look. That curve is just too cool! So glad you kept it original with the original holes drilled. It's that kind of respect for the original that's resulted in this cat looking so right. Thanks again for taking us all along for this ride! It's been a hoot!

I used to teach HVAC to military students. In our old curriculum, those bourdon tube pressure/temperature gauges with the cap tube were typically either filled with the fluid being measured or refrigerant since it is very responsive to temperature change. To my knowledge, they are very uncommon to find, these days. It is very nice that you are keeping it as original as possible and it as a mechanical operating guage. Thank you for the great content.

Pretty impressive you can build fixtures to press apart large rusty parts and then fabricate a working temp gauge out of mismatched parts. Like a boilermaker repairing Swiss watches on his coffee break. Oh, and I love the way the bumper looks.

This build has been sooo much fun to follow along with. Is there any way to see the extra behind the scenes builds without being a patron? as much as id love to, being on a disabled pension stops me from becoming one. watching you build things from scratch is a rather enjoyable way to pass the time when im not fit enough to do stuff all. I have watched this entire build series at least 5 times. Thanks for the vids... keep up the good work.

Great job on the gauge. That flat tube that connects to the capillary tube is called a Bourdon tube. It is the basis of most mechanical pressure gauges built. We do analog meters at work, and have a uv cured inc printer. I can print full color graphics direct on any flat surface. Especially guage faces, and I grew up doing cadd work to build custom scales. If your graphics place can't help you out on the temp guage , I'm happy to do it with our printer.

Toby, when you were cutting off the cork plugs I was thinking about a safer way to do it. I keep a few of the box cutters that have the snap off blades. I use them for trimming off various things because you can keep your fingers well away from the blades. I had one of those utility knife blades slip once and it ended up sticking out of my hand. That was several years ago but my right hand still reacts every time I see someone using a blade that way.

Should give that bumper a few hammer hits. Like if you have one of those axe head hammers (i forget the technical name) that's blunted, the one every house seems to have, just give it a few strategic love taps and then fill them with grime. The paint is mint, but it's too factory fresh. :))
