The JT8Ds used on the B737-200 were the first generation ones used on the Boeing 727 and McDonnell Douglas DC9. The MD-80s used the second generation JT8D-217-219 engines.

I’d say more like 99 or 2000. Some of the planes had the Ron Allen livery, and some had the French flag frowning widget livery. Both liveries were awful.
Good point... The only answer id have is with the 737 it kept becoming a different airplane (longer). Really the significant only difference between the MD-80 and the MD-90 is the engines (and avionics).

I like the second generation engines more. Deeper sound but that feeling of power is wonderful!
I flew on one of these in 2003!

Note how the new control tower isn't there and the old one is, it was probably back in 2002 or 2003
November of 2003! Good eye!
Thats good quality for 2003 wtf

Wow!! Blast from the past! There was actually a line of planes waiting to take off lol!
The last time I flew in this aircraft was back in August 1999...a Canadian Airlines flight from YHZ (Halifax) to YYZ (Toronto)!
One of the finest vids .. Thanx a lot
osuengineer2012 .. Keep it up .

CVG sure doesn't look like that anymore
Yah it does pretty much the same engine just mounted on the wings instead of the body. Gotta love the old Pratt and Whitney JT8D's.
The date you are referring to is the date the video was added, not the date I recorded it lol. I took this in in June of 2005 if you must know.
can't believe those big birds are flying until now. Saw one this morning
The last 737-200 I rode on was a DL 73S N332DL ATL-GSO
CVG back then was a delta hub now just a focus city
LOL@ the long ass line for takeoff...the plane was rolling down the runway at 80 kts and you could still see the line on the taxiway...
This plane reminds me of NWA Dc9-50s and Boeing 727
It was just an economics deal (gas)
This is something out of the ordinary though. How could Delta fly the 732 in 2008 when the small short-ranged jetliner left the fleet in 2006?
This video was filmed when before delta retired the 737-200
@XXXGhostGrenadeXXX Same engines. Pratt & Whitney JT8D's.
I'd have to say probably because they just didn't feel the need to.
because it has the same engines.
thay made it an express jet
Takeooff
Why fix what isn't broken? lol
Southwest is coming this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AcepilotC172 dude, this was 5 years ago and they are back!
