Growing container potatoes for the second year now. There is no way this is real 😂. Every year, around the time of harvesting mine, I come back to this video. This is the greatest haul of container potatoes in the history of TH-cam! Unbelievable. Great great harvest man 👍

During World War Two, the ministry of food in the UK had constructed, thousands of barrel like tube containers, approximately 50 gallon volume in size, placed them in open ground side by side, and planted potato seed in them, as the potato seed sprouted it was lightly covered with soil, this continued right to the top of the barrel, then the potato top grew out freely, each barrel occupied an area of approx nine square feet, when harvesting, the tubes/barrels were simply lifted up and clear, to release their harvest, each barrel produced well over 100lbs of spuds, and it was not unusual to find barrels with almost 200lbs of spuds when harvested, this method and other intense high yield farming techniques were essential when the U boats were sinking millions of tons of British shipping carrying essential food and supplies to the UK. The method was simply called "A Barrel of Spuds".
That’s really interesting! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Do you happen to know how did they get sun to the plants at the bottoms of the barrels before they grew closer to the top? I was thinking about growing potatoes in some old trash barrels, but wasn’t sure if they would receive adequate light in the beginning. Thanks :) ✌️
@@Emiliapocalypse As i understand it, each level of taters is allowed to growup a bit, then another level of taters then more soil. This is so encouraging to watch..especially with us who can't dig gardens..this has become my latest method of gardening. .and it really does work..I hv severe arthritis in both knees...but I am still able to grow pot vegetables. ..

Great Idea's & great video! I'm not much of a gardener. I may have put out around 12 gardens over the years. I had a acre & a half garden for two yrs. in the barn was 8 year old sheep manure. I spread it evenly over entire garden with eight S-10 truck loads.I planted sweet corn, Beans, cabbage, well all I could plant in Illinois. I had two rows of tators 200 ft. long hilled up about foot & a half high. Once every 3 weeks I watered down the plants with miracle grow from a garden hose. for three months, My tators were shaped like horse shoes. I could put 5 tators in a five gallon bucket that's how big they were. cabbage heads were bigger than a basketball. those two years were the best years I ever had growing in the garden. I wish I had pictures. wanted to share that with you. I recon old sheep manure is worth having.
I have watched a lot of potato harvests and while there are some good digs by Americans it seems like the potato videos from Great Britain always seem to do better. Is it the weather? The soil? A more serious gardening attitude? The potato genetics? Who knows. But I think we need to have some serious Potato Olympics style competition this next year.
Also a lot of folks don't understand there are two types of growers. One type of spud only delivers a few because of the root system while another keeps growing. I think that helps. So many forget to keep them in plenty of sun. I know I had a box I did spuds and sweet taters in and it was the first time trying and I got so many, the size and the flavor so rich. But made sure to have some good soil and dung for it. Mine could of been an accident but one I was glad for.

More or less any sort of soil with plenty of compost, plus sun & plenty of watering. In the open ground, they like well dug & loosened soil. V easy to grow, give it a go.
I think I saw in one of his descriptions, adding blood meal and bone meal 2x during growing season. Also adding a good bit of peat to the compost for a more acidic soil.
Congrats Last time I grew potatoes it was near a lake in the ground so when I pulled them out ,what I thought was a rotten seed potato was a giant frog
Dude, that is the most beautiful soil. I would've cut up the potato branches and leaves and put them back into that soil after harvesting those potatoes. But all in all, this whole video was just beautiful. Thank you brother.
Okay these questions may have already been answered but inquiring minds want to know. How many potatoes did you plant in each container and what type of soil mix did you use; also how long does it take to grow (one month 3 months)???
+Londa Kay +Lau Root, the guy has other videos showing you how to do it. Basically, he chitts the seed potatoes, plants 2 each of them per 30ltr pot around 2" from the bottom. These pots are half-filled with multi-purpose compost and have either a bit of blood, fish & bone or some other potato fertiliser mixed in before planting. When the plants grow to about 6", half cover the plant with fresh compost and continue to do this until you're done.
Great haul on the spuds, I've never heard of Sarpos before, but it looks like they're the potato to have or you have the best way of growing I've ever seen. By the way, have you ever grown Jerseys? I can't seem to find them in the states.
Jerseys come under the name of "International Kidney" they are only allowed to be called Jerseys if they are grown in Jersey. You might be able to find some with that name. Cheers, Dan.

Thank you my friend
This is why I love taters, easy to grow & a huge harvest! Besides that they will keep for a long time if stored correctly.
How do I store them correctly

I’m wondering too.
That was amazing. I have to know your secret. Congrats. Wow..
No secret, just 2 potatoes per pot, 4 oz of Blood Fish & Bone and keep moist.
Cheers, Dan.
Brendan told me about Blood Fish & Bone. Can't find it here but I can get the individual ingredients.
There is no secret to this, he is faking the whole thing.
Wow!! I need to find the video where you show what medium you grew these in.
Yummy! I love sweet potatoes, thank you kindly sir for showing me how to plant sweet potatoes from a pot. I am going to get on planting mine now! 😃
Amazing, im glad to see u there, so many potatoe in ur garden.
I love his accent 🥺❤️

Last time I grew potatoes it was near a lake in the ground so when I pulled them out ,what I thought was a rotten seed potato was a giant frog
Fwuffy tiger Gaming did you eat it? (Just kidding ;) 🐸
Ha ha ha .....omg...sorry for laughing but the picture of it just popped in my head
I hate that rotten seed potato lol
I had a snake, I will definitely trade you! I never dug potatoes again 🤬
@@Emiliapocalypse should have, huh! I would've 💖💖💖
Somehow hunger is still a world epidemic.
Fat Controllers
Most famines are caused by war or other man-made factors. There is actually enough food in the world to feed 11 billion people.
When the english were genociding them, the irish tried growing pretty much only potatoes. it worked alright for a minute.
Its called laziness.
Dude, that is the most beautiful soil. I would've cut up the potato branches and leaves and put them back into that soil after harvesting those potatoes. But all in all, this whole video was just beautiful. Thank you brother.
Over 6kg from one pot.. Thats like peak of efficiency and harvest from just 2 seed potatoes 👏🙌
Okay these questions may have already been answered but inquiring minds want to know. How many potatoes did you plant in each container and what type of soil mix did you use; also how long does it take to grow (one month 3 months)???
+Londa Kay i want to know exactly the same.
+007hor Thanks! I wrote your comment down.
+007hor BLOOD????
+eumaroca he probably meant blood meal.......hopefully
Great haul on the spuds, I've never heard of Sarpos before, but it looks like they're the potato to have or you have the best way of growing I've ever seen. By the way, have you ever grown Jerseys? I can't seem to find them in the states.
Jerseys come under the name of "International Kidney" they are only allowed to be called Jerseys if they are grown in Jersey.
You might be able to find some with that name.
Cheers, Dan.
***** Thanks Dan, I had no idea of the different name, I saw them on "Two Fat Ladies" years ago.
That was amazing. What was your soil mix?
didanhtennis Thats what I want to know! And also how many seed potatoes in each bucket?
didanhtennis I see what seems a fair amount of peat?
addictedtoelf I read from his reply to someone 2 seed per tub. And 4oz of blood fish and bone. Nothing mentioned about the soil.
Wooowwwww very nice!!
Congratulations
I love potatoes!
