  • If it's stupid and it works, is it still stupid?

Done it on several builds over the years now it's turning easy and no tight spots I'd go with it

I'd keep going with it, it's not to tight and there's no play in it, keep building pal.

Bear in mind where the swarf from doing that went, ie straight into your oil galleries.
You need the proper tool to install them correctly. Don’t pay a machine shop £300, you can make a tool, rent or borrow, but it’s important the tool is centralised on the bore with a conical insert.

My machine shop lent me a sliced camshaft to do this same procedure. There are bearing shavers but this trick is well-known and accepted. Yes!!! Cleaning out the shavings is a MUST.

Even the best machinists miss one once in awhile. Shaving the cam bearings is as old as rebuilding engines with cam bearings.

put the cam shaft in vertically or use a tool like a screw driver inserted in the bolt threads to assist installing your cam. hurts me to see it get smashed in and out so many times.

Its definitely worth asking around if I was you to see if what you have do e is right , it's a great old school way of loosening tight bearings, but looks to me as you have cured it , good look

Never clean your shaft in the kitchen sink while wife is away. Anyway, I'm having this exact prob with a Ford 4.0 OHV rebuild. Thought I made mistake and ordered another set of bearings. The front was also tight with the newest new. Then I put the original bearing on the camshaft journal and it was also tight. No real sweet spot where it will turn. What in the heck is going on here? The cam is perfect. The block journal is perfect. It is just this one journal that gives me problems.
