Yep... Went through this same thing when I built my 451 RB. New bearings... I had to ream every single one of them. Great video

Good video! this happens a lot even more when you use new cam bearings...if it was at the machine shop line hone the cam bore fix.... But down and dirty you can use a paring knife as a cam knife and make a chamfer on the last cam bearing to guide the cam in....the factory did too!!

I hate to say this.... but THAT is a really good Camshaft !
Both the Summit K6400 and K6401 punch way above their weight classes.... especially if a guy can provide even a little bit of Compression Ratio closer to 9.0:1 or 9.5:1 respectively for each..... and given that most motorhome 440's are notoriously LOW Compression Ratios down 8:1.... milling the Heads .050" with using the thicker .039" composition Head Gaskets is highly advised.

Would have been a hell of a lot safer to use 600 grit valve lapping compound. Just to make sure it was constantly fed you could have put a couple of Flats on the cam section.

Jeez guy, you really should have changed those pistons out while you had your engine apart on the stand. You'll be lucky if you have 7.5:1 with those motor home pistons. Not a good combo with those heads, the pistons being so far down in the bore. No squish or quench with those huge open chamber heads and low compression height slugs. Problem with those combos is you HAVE to run premium and get nothing for it, performance wise. Kind of curious if you mic'd the journals of the 2 camshafts. Wondering why the original one fit and not the aftermarket.

It's incredibly low buck at this time, it's a good runner. It will be gone through in the near future.

@@RabidTransitGarage I gotcha. I believe KB/Silvolite sells some pretty economical quench dome pistons. Some of the fast rate Lunati or Crower small cams would work good with what you have. Apart from some closed chamber aluminum heads, new pistons are the cheapest fix. I know, I had an old '77 440 cop car and I think that was 7.8: 1 advertised. I'm sure it was less than that.
