Why not, why should journalists be above critisism for dull questions? 'Part of her job' is a lame cop out that I hear often. Her job is a professional tennis player and the media is part of her commitments. She has a choice whether to play tennis, but doesn't have a choice to do these if she wants to play tennis. However the media does have a choice to be there. If they don't like her, don't call her for press conferences...it's that simple.
I think she was quite rude to the journalists. She could have politely asked at the end of interview to prepare different , more interesting questions next time and give an example of topics she would be happy to speak about. Even though journalists asked new questions, she still got annoyed. Its unprofessional. Everyone is doing his/her job.
Totally disagree. It is not her job to make pressers colorful. Media people did a poor job and she took them to task - rightly so. They did not like it one bit and now trying to put a blame on her. Be better at what you suppose to do. Ask more interesting questions. Whoever attacked her (Rothenber?) is full of s**t.
I disagree, sports journalists are just too lazy and the Tennis ones is the worst of the bunch asking inane repetitive questions! It is not her job to wake up this slumbering lot
Personally I don't enjoy hearing her answering these repeated useless questions since I already knew she is not the kind to speak excessive useless words.
I think she's just tired. She's also been dealing with illness for quite some time. But, after the year she won Wimbledon, I wouldn't be surprised if she developed a dislike for post match press press conferences. But no one really asked about the match itself in this particular conference.
Elena Rybakina is exactly right about the press coverage. Perhaps, since it seems the WTA requires mandatory press sessions after every match, she should continue with terse, brief answers to repetitive questions until the reporters become a bit more intelligent. Tennis is entertainment in that fans pay to watch the players on the court. But I would submit that most of those fans aren't waiting with baited breaths to hear so-called sports journalists ask the same questions and get the same answers ad infinitum. I retired from a career as a journalist and I made a point of not asking questions likely to generate cliche responses or the same old answers you've heard a thousand times. Tennis players ought to the right not to comment at all if they are so inclined and the WTA should accept that.
@@Johnnybgood76 The questions ought to depend on whether there's something significant to ask about. @@hugbow Respectfully, every match is unique. Fans want to hear how a player experienced THAT match. Ultimately players should understand this and offer more detail in their answers.
@@Johnnybgood76 Respectfully, I would submit that a player is under no obligation to sit there and serve up the same old responses to the same old questions about how he or she "experienced that match." It is an obligation that, especially when someone loses, they may simply not feel like talking about. And there should be no expectation that they will simply bare their souls to inquiring reporters. I suggest you walk a mile in their shoes before being quite so judgmental.
Something has changed for Elena! She was never this impolite. I’ve seen a lot of her press conferences and she’s always been a sweet and humble girl! I think this has something to do with her comments on the long draws and tournament scheduling that doesn’t support players good health! She had made these comments a couple of months ago and I’m guessing there’s been some backlash behind the scenes so she’s perhaps feels betrayed for speaking her mind. Hence the ice cold response to the press in the last two conferences! This is definitely not normal Elena behaviour! She’s a professional and a honest athlete.
This is a plausible explanation. In Madrid she was really exceptionally talkative and relaxed, talking about bad match schedules and late night matches. The odd behaviour at the press conferences started in Rome and now in Paris it gets even worse. Even in her on-court interview today with Alex Corretja she behaved this way a bit.
When they show her face closely - she does not look right. Either sick or extremely exhausted. Also she was thin to begin with, but seems that she lost weight and now looks even thinner.
Clearly, she doesn’t enjoy this and looks a bit drained - almost stressed. As an introvert being in constant limelight can be quite exhausting! Stay well Elena :)
Journalists often ask the most banal questions. It is obvious that some of them cover only the occasional grand slam and don’t know a lot about tennis. I don’t blame Elena for getting tired of unimaginative and uneducated questions. She wasn’t overly rude at all, just showing a little frustration. The journalists really should up their game. It’s lazy to keep asking the same questions over and over at every tournament. Elena is one of the classy ladies on tour and personally I think would be number 1 if she didn’t have a bunch of recurring post covid illness issues. Maybe she was extra tired because of that and not up for taking fools gladly on that particular day. We all have those days. By the way I think it hypocritical of some journalists that are labelling this as rude but those same journalists say they love it when people like Serena or Danielle Collins kick up a stink and behave badly on the tennis court… add spice to the tournament apparently… but being a bit sassy in the interview room… can’t have that.
they are just doing their job elena. it's not their fault that you guys get interviewed and press conferences almost every week through an entire year! you cannot expect new and exciting questions all the time. you have big money now. if you have off court problems don't take it out on them with this attitude.
Something is wrong with Elena…some attitude change I can sense while answering questions…being closely watching her play since Wimbledon victory its very clear she was not like tat before…not sure what happened answering all questions with less interest and feeling very sleepy and tired…something looks wrong…hope she is all right and we need old Elena back
In Madrid she was really exceptionally talkative and relaxed. The odd behaviour at the press conferences started in Rome and now in the Paris it gets even worse. Even in her on-court interview today with Alex Corretja she behaved this way a bit.
Love Elena... but not loving this interview... she fully understands the 5-10 minutes of press are part of the job, and she should answer in kind. It's not as though the press is being disrespectful or crossing any lines. It's always the same questions... perhaps (although it seemed like they tried to accommodate her by asking some different ones) but it could be easily said that she is always doing the same thing too by playing tennis matches. But each match is unique and therefore questions pertaining to these matches are also unique even if they are the same question. She could keep the answers short, or tell the reporters to refer to prior interviews if the questions are that redundant... but the irritated and sort of smug attitude needs to go. Sorry Elena... normally with you but not on this one.
Your commentary pretty much said everything I was thinking. She's hit a wall with being overscheduled, but due to her immense success, she can't take a break from the grind.
Exactly. I can empathize with her and all the players regarding how boring/dull the tour grind can be, especially the press conferences, but come on. This is just petulant, unprofessional behavior.
99 percent of the players give thoughtful answers to,questions. If she doesn’t want the millions of dollars in prize money and the interviews torture her - she can stay home.
Rybakina has balls! I don't buy into these guys are just doing their jobs - journalism died b/c reporters are only interested in getting clicks and robotically going through the motions of keeping their jobs, rather than bringing any real enthusiasm to the press rooms. Good on Rybakina.
Being watching her from 3 years, this is not her, for sure she is trying to do something new or has been trained to face media to get away from them. Really disappointed of her being unlikely of herself. Media is a part of the tour and i hope she bring her personality out and not trained one 🤞
Makes sense, considering the observable "poker face"/"restraint" she has shown as her main persona since she came into the scene... I just hope she's healthy.
I feel Elena is sad, something is going on on her personal life. I wish her all the best, she is such a beautiful human. It’s difficult to stay happy and ok in this kind of crazy world.
Can’t believe so many people are trashing her. Sometimes people just aren’t in the mood to yak it up. She spends hours and hours preparing for matches and the tension of playing a match is huge - give her a break. Jeez.
They are Iga fans. You’re right. Shes obviously very tired and has been sick on and off since last June and still won 4 tournaments. People hate the Russian girl.
So disappointing to see Elena behave like this. Never seen her have such a jeering and unpleasant attitude. Fair enough if she don't like to answer questions but she doesn't even have to be professional. She only have to behave like a grown up like she are supposed to be and not some spoiled brat. Really hoping that this was a one-time occurrence.
What are you talking about? She let them off easy compared to the other players who directly pummeled the media. The questions were as meaningful as asking someone what time they have to go to work? 🤦🏻♂️
@@angedominique9062 Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find the video but it was during a break and the ball kid was struggling to handle the umbrella steadily for her( probably the nerves ) so she tells him the first time to hold in a way that the sun doesn’t get into her face ( but she didn’t say this kindly) then the poor ball kid tried but was probably was too nervous so again his holding wasn’t steady then Rybakina just stood up and went to sit across the court where there was shade from the building. She doesn’t say thanks, she didn’t warn the kid to say she was going to move. She just left and the poor kid was confused then he just now closed the umbrella after he saw that Rybakina had gone to sit elsewhere. I mean, it wasn’t nice at all .
I had to watch a previous interview of hers from other tournaments and she was a bit more upbeat. Regardless of the dumb questions by the journalists, I would imagine you just have to hang in there and answer them as if it was the first time she's never heard it. She might just be extremely exhausted, hangry, etc. Perhaps they need to conduct interviews a day after the matches (more applicable for Slams perhaps), so the players can recover, and do their after game routines and not have to worry about questions. Just a tought.
She was really not very nice to the journalists. The questions were similar for the other players, it's her attitude that was awful. Terrible conference from her side.
Brava Elena..for standing up to the redundant press questions which rarely divulge anything of interest that the tennis game does not...Athletes are honored for their skill..asking questions where they have been prepped to respond to is not of interest to all fans! Truly applaud Elena for making this clear in this press conference...
Participation in the press conference is included in the tournament. Her attitude towards journalists, who do their job is rude. You can answer questions in an interesting way and some conferences are gems.
@@ostrozka2Their job is not to ask the same questions everyday to every player. They could also show some respect and ask things of matter. Players are not objects without sentiments that are there just to be there. It has to be a collaboration.
@@r.c.c.10 the same questions? maybe yes but the other players answer without getting bored. Everyone is different and everyone needs something different to win the tournament. She didn't get any stupid questions, so why the disrespect?
LOL I love Rybakina and understanding that she's an introvert/shy, it makes sense as to why she would feel like this. However, media, press and marketing are a big part of the sport of tennis and one of the main reasons why people fall in love with the players and want to pay to see them. From Rybakina's side, we see that she rather not do press most times but is part of her career and her team should invest in coaching her on how to deal with it so she can make it comfortable for herself and the journalists in the room. Her fans are watching and wanting to learn more about her as a person. As for the journalists, also learning about a players behavior and how to catch their interest should be part of their agenda when doing these press conferences, not solely focusing on basic questions about the match cuz it gets repetitive and not all players are bulbly and eager to speak more than they need to.
She is 100 percent right, questions are boring and unoriginal, that s why i don t watch press interviews.., usually.., i wonder if they are requiered to give a long answer or they just like to talk.., if it was me i would give the shortest answer possible.
What was that??? Elena going prime diva!!!! Does she not know she has fans who might like some insight from their favourite player. Todays questions were very friendly and respectful. I think she can expect some bumpier pressers in the future
May be last time press conference in Rome/Madrid she spoke about the long scheduling of Rome and Madrid tournaments and criticize WTA which I believe didnt go well with WTA and might have got some warning…so may be she trying to keep away from press or irritated or may be dont know how to answer…anyway Elena concentrate on your game and keep away from issues which haunts you…
Seems like a pretty bratty attitude from her side. Maybe the questions were a bit boring, but what could the press have asked, about her personal private life? Press conference is part of the job that she is paid millions to do. Every other players including the very best have to deal with press (and the very best seem to do it very well too). Ryba somehow thinks all these are beneath her it seems
Very disrespectful to the press. They try to change questions to different topics but seems like nothing was good for her. And I don't understand why she couldn't answer question what she likes about Aryna. That was quite interesting and easy question.
Have followed her since she won Hobart in 2020. Love her style of play and her demeanour on court, and til now, off court too. She gave some terse interviews in Rome, but ill-health could possibly excuse that. This, and other RG press she's done, was very ordinary. Whatever is bugging her, I hope she gets over it, or comes to terms with it. Press is part of the business. Maybe she could start her next press conference by saying "Sorry I was a pain in the ass last time ...".
Press is hard you do multiple press conferences usually answering the same questions over and over it’s understandable that people can get a little testy at times she just sounded fed up
Something just definitely off with Elena here, she's normally not this rude to the press, I really hope this is just a one-off thing. I suspect she is just fatigued from a lot of things, hopefully she gets better and it will be a different Elena in a few days time after she's had some rest instead of the Elena we see here :)
She is not shy. She wouldn't be rude if she was. She just doesn't want to be there. She is not interested and looked to leave the press conference as quickly as possible
Being on the tour is difficult. Elena Rybakina has at times been treated shabbily by WTA or event organizers - especially over the last 2 years after her Wimbledon win. This could be partly due to her quite demeanour. She also does not seem to have the switched on and aggressive team like Swiatek to guide her properly. Her coach appears to be a 'seat of the pants' manager with no long term plans and with too much control. She appears to needs more professional assistance and guidance. Maybe I am wrong and she is just stubborn, gets frustrated and boxes herself into corners and her emotional stress takes a toll on her physical state. Whatever it is , it is a pity as she is the most awesome and clinical hitter of the ball in the WTA.
Honestly, the journalists asked common questions, which they usually ask any player, and it's better that way than the disrespectful ones that we know sometimes happen. For me, press conferences are interesting because of the players' answers to even these simple questions. It could be that Elena just wasn't in a good moment...
I usually love elena, but this side of her i do not. The journalists have a job to do and as mundane as the questions might be every player has to answer them. Some questions were silly, and some were reasonable, you didn't have to be rude to them Elena. It's your job to do these press conferences and it's expected by every tennis player to be professionals about it. Even though it was obvious Elena was tired and sick, it doesn't give her permission to be rude. Quite frankly im glad they didnt give her a second press conference, she was boring to watch. I'm usually a fan of elena, but not so much in this press conference.
As a Rybakina fan that was pretty hard to watch. Quite the contrast to the demeanor she normally displays on and off the court. You don't always have to be the pretty, sweet and polite girl, but I really wonder what the reason for this rather drastic change in behavior is. I hope everything is well, especially in terms of her mental well being. One reason might be that ever since her Wimbledon victory she felt like she didn't get the same kind of respect from the media as other GS champions. But while this probably has been true for some time, I really think it' has been different recently. In any case, no reason to be that impolite. If she has some mental or private issues, I hope she can solve them. Have been a fan of her ever since that emotional post final press conference in Wimbledon 2022.
In Madrid she was really exceptionally talkative and relaxed. The odd behaviour at the press conferences started in Rome and now in the Paris it gets even worse. Even in her on-court interview today with Alex Corretja she behaved this way a bit.
Not sure what she's on about here. If the press started asking ultra personal questions, or really random questions, would she actually answer them? I highly doubt it.
It's funny, Ben Rothenberg was lamenting on Twitter about how terrible it is that WTA players aren't marketable because of having personalities like this (Elena is literally just one person and doesn't represent the personalities of the entire WTA, but anyway) and basically blaming female players for not, idk, having more fans or something insane. But this press conference where Rybakina points out how inane the questions are has more views than any of the men's press conferences this channel posted today.
The Ice Queen is better than this interview. My issue is her lack of engagement with the reporters the questions are never the same situations dictate different answers. Everyone can have a bad day, but this cant continue press is part of tbe job.
I felt sorry for that lady that asked about her friendship with Aryna and was genuinely curious and interested. Elena had such a lame low effort entitled attitude. And she didn't even play the most exhausting of matches. Think about the match Iga and Naomi had and they were still able to contain themselves in the press conference. Elena's PC was just painful to watch and it's impossible for one not to cringe.
@@WickedRichiewhich question was dumb? As for boring, what do you expect actually? This are standard question that every player is asked at every tournament. Still most of them answer in civil manner.

This time they didn’t say sth disrespectful- she did
Yes, questions are pretty much the same but it’s part of the gig. Also, as soon as she mentioned that, she got a bit different ones so that worked. Bad day I guess, normally she is quite nice.
Rybakina is clearly going through issues whether physical or mental. Just hope it is not a spiral downward and can be resolved or maybe just a phase in her life. Irrespective love to watch the cleanest, sharpest most clinical ball striker on the WTA tour. She says she eats 'clean'- think she should go on a carnivore diet to get back her physical and emotional strength! Lol! 😊
What a queen haha people are taking this way too seriously. She just got off an interview where she answered a simple question about who she feels stronger against and the press ate her up. Maybe she’s just not feeling the vibe today and sometimes that’s ok, I don’t think it crossed a line of being overtly disrespectful, more like sarcastic and playful. I think players should be allowed to skip the press conference if they want, some people just want to compete!
They're not tennis journalist that's why they're all asking the same questions, it should be what do u think.of your opponent style of play or when it was 4 all what was going inside your head or what kind of play you are thinking to break Rus, etc.
I would like to come to her defense. Her attitude here surprised me because I'm a big fan of hers and have watched a lot of her post-match pressers. She's usually quite sweet, not like this at all. Maybe she's just having a bad day. Maybe that time of the month for her? She's only human. Hopefully she watches this, reflects, and learns from it because she wasn't fair to those questions.
Hands down, my favorite player on the WTA. I would not suggest fighting media and press. However, I can imagine where this comes from. She is correct. They do ask the same lame questions. I think the press corps in tennis are arguably the worst in sports. Few have followers compared to other sports. This is the same press that vilified her coach and actually suggested that she was abused. This is the same press that went church mouse when Wimbledon shamefully excluded Russian and Belarusian players to then inevitably handed a trophy 🏆 to Moscow native Elena Rybakina.

She's so childish for a so-called professional.
@sharonward2520 I don’t know why you’re being so rude and nescient accusing her of being rude for answering. They asked, she answered. It doesn’t have to be the most comprehensive. As long as the media presents the questions and give her a platform, she can voice her opinion on it. Most players wouldn’t play games with trick questions to taint their image. Compared to other players like Roddick, Djokovic and Nadal, she let them off easily.
@sharonward2520 You’re the one who said “she’s being extremely rude” and “needs to grow up” despite you making blind, naive, and childish assumptions about someone which makes you a hypocrite for accusing her of “being extremely rude” and telling her of “needing to grow up” If you don’t want others to know why, then maybe don’t comment because everyone in the forum is entitled to ask even though it does make you look chickensh*t to dodge the conversation. I never said I cared about “why” from you. I just said it isn’t reasonable for you to be soft and sensitive about an exchange that was standard. It was a casual exchange she reciprocated politely,. She doesn’t need to answer that correlates with your ridiculous expectations. It’s you who “needs to grow up”
@sharonward2520 Children would say “you don’t need to know why”. Adults would say the reasons “why”. You have your thoughts but they’re wrong and the only ones who know they’re not being rude is her and everyone who isn’t looking to bash her out of personal enmity 😉
Federer used to answer in a similar fashion a lot of the time and there were no issues there. She was asked most of these questions during her pre-tournament pc, and no one knows what goes on behind the scenes. Of course she could have been a little more polite, but journalists can't have it both ways making out that these pcs are invaluable insights into the players but also continuously asking the same questions that are of little to no substance.

A basic two-set or three-set win without sensational comebacks, brilliant shots or something else of significance suggests that it's ridiculous to hold a press session so they can plow the same old ground.
I suggest you walk a mile in their shoes before being quite so judgmental.
completly agree.
What the hell does she want them to ask?

Something has changed for Elena! She was never this impolite. I’ve seen a lot of her press conferences and she’s always been a sweet and humble girl! I think this has something to do with her comments on the long draws and tournament scheduling that doesn’t support players good health! She had made these comments a couple of months ago and I’m guessing there’s been some backlash behind the scenes so she’s perhaps feels betrayed for speaking her mind. Hence the ice cold response to the press in the last two conferences!
This is definitely not normal Elena behaviour! She’s a professional and a honest athlete.
Yes I agree…looks like she no longer interested to talk openly
This is a plausible explanation.
In Madrid she was really exceptionally talkative and relaxed, talking about bad match schedules and late night matches.
The odd behaviour at the press conferences started in Rome and now in Paris it gets even worse. Even in her on-court interview today with Alex Corretja she behaved this way a bit.
She makes fun of journalists questions, but repeats the same sentences in post match interviews on the court. Naugty.
That’s why she’s over it, she’s not an attention seeker like novak
I mean thats kind of her point in this video. Same questions - same answers. The only problem people seem to have with her is that she is honest lol.
@@heavybattle6650 i just hope this is her just wanting to play tennis and not anything more related to mental exhaustion

1000 %🔥 agree
Your commentary pretty much said everything I was thinking. She's hit a wall with being overscheduled, but due to her immense success, she can't take a break from the grind.
Exactly. I can empathize with her and all the players regarding how boring/dull the tour grind can be, especially the press conferences, but come on. This is just petulant, unprofessional behavior.
Fuck da press
She has difficulties with English. This is the problem not her attitude
I honestly love this. She’s just being honest. Everyone has a bad day too, so maybe she was.
Strange conference…
At least she is not pretending that she doesn’t understand English questions…
She’s really exhausted, even the on court interview her responses was short
99 percent of the players give thoughtful answers to,questions. If she doesn’t want the millions of dollars in prize money and the interviews torture her - she can stay home.
Or she can just continue the way she is
Rybakina has balls! I don't buy into these guys are just doing their jobs - journalism died b/c reporters are only interested in getting clicks and robotically going through the motions of keeping their jobs, rather than bringing any real enthusiasm to the press rooms. Good on Rybakina.
Well Elena Rybakina is introvert person 😅 so she doesn't like interview from the journalist
Being watching her from 3 years, this is not her, for sure she is trying to do something new or has been trained to face media to get away from them.
Really disappointed of her being unlikely of herself.
Media is a part of the tour and i hope she bring her personality out and not trained one 🤞
Perhaps it is real “her”. Usually when you are longer exposed, tired, etc you are showing you real face as you cannot use mask all the time …
Makes sense, considering the observable "poker face"/"restraint" she has shown as her main persona since she came into the scene...
Jeez.

In my opinion she must onboard a mentor or physiologist to her team immediately…Vukov can concentrate on coaching alone…
That has to be the rudest most adorable press conference lol
She was really not very nice to the journalists. The questions were similar for the other players, it's her attitude that was awful. Terrible conference from her side.

Stupid judgmental comment. Obviously an Iga fan.

Maybe she could start her next press conference by saying "Sorry I was a pain in the ass last time ...".

serious, shy young lady, for her it is difficult to answer to idiots.
She is not shy. She wouldn't be rude if she was. She just doesn't want to be there. She is not interested and looked to leave the press conference as quickly as possible
she was obviously tired and not in the mood, so she did her best; these questions did not help either...
So disrespectful
She is shy sweet girl
NOT SWEET AT ALL!!
There's definitely something going on. She's such a nice person she's either on her time of the cough cough or something personal
I never seen her so rude before! I changed opinion about her…. Disappointed ☹️

HATE Her outfit! S he looks so anemic!!

But this press conference where Rybakina points out how inane the questions are has more views than any of the men's press conferences this channel posted today.

I felt sorry for that lady that asked about her friendship with Aryna and was genuinely curious and interested. Elena had such a lame low effort entitled attitude. She was asked most of these questions during her pre-tournament pc, and no one knows what goes on behind the scenes.
