David Simon is an asshole to everyone on Twitter apparently… it’s a shame because if he just let the stories tell themselves instead of adding his own personal entitled feelings he could go down in history as one of the best to ever do it but ever since We Own This City he cant get out of his own way
Watching Bubbles walk up those steps is actually one of my very favorite moments on the show. It highlights the idea of redemption and hope. And after seeing Bubbles go through so much was also heartwarming.
Rawls telling McNutty it wasn't his fault always brings tears to my eyes. To me, it's the best moment of the season. Great video. I'd rearrange a couple of items, but overall I agree with you.
His dialogue felt more like poetry with the amount of swagger he got. The conversation between him and Cutty about using a automatic over a revolver lives rent free in my head.
I’d like to add 1.) Chris Partlow beating Michael’s step father to death, and 2.) Michael beating the shit out of Kenard for Namond, and then bitch slapping Namond bullying Dookie.
Chris beating Bug’s daddy was one of the darkest, yet interesting moments of the show. It’s one of the only times Chris actually makes a kill personal.
@@raymondsims7042 It does not seem as if you have thought about the big picture regarding Michael. Imo Michael was a good kid because he was doing the best he could in an untenable situation. And it’s the same for dukie and randy both could have been excellent lads but they were royally fcked by the system and their upbringing.
Yeah that Avon, Cutty, Slim scene was tremendous. By letting Cutty go, Avon actually does something good for the society by allowing him to open up a gym and maybe sway some of the troubled kids into doing something good with their lives. World's apart from Marlo's 'do what I say or die' attitude. I cannot imagine how it would have played out if Cutty said the same stuff to Marlo about not being in the game anymore, Cutty would have ended up in a boarded up building.
I think another reason Avon has no problem helping Cutty is because Avon used to be one of the those kids in the boxing gym. People forget Avon has a boxing background.
Cutty admitting that his heart "ain't in the game" anymore is not only one of the best moments in the episode, but in the entire series. Because Cutty knew that saying something like that out loud in THAT setting could be a death sentance, but he still said it out of RESPECT for who Avon was, and what it took to BE "in the game" in general.
Your content is as ever original, clever and thought provoking. Thank you for what you do. It's a fantastic escape from real life and has a lovely nostalgic edge. Its clear you absolutely love the genre and I can't help but be pulled into your narratives.
Cutty is my favorite character in the show. They could have done an entire series about him. Honestly, almost every character could be the main character of another show. Every character is so well rounded. They're all able to surprise you, but in a way that makes absolute sense.
The finest show ever made. Enough said. Layered, complex and all connected. The more things change the more they stay the same. I like the gritty raw uncompromising story telling, which although spells doom for some of your favourite characters it's reflective of life in Baltimore and life in the game. The characters are victims of their circumstances and know no other life. We get moments when the writer builds them up, gets us to like them, pulls the rug from under them which makes the story more devastating. We also get moments when characters are faced with important decisions which frustrates the viewer but is a sign of excellent storytelling (just look at the comments section on TH-cam wire clips also the sopranos etc). This is fine storytelling at its finest, has us thinking about it and its characters long after completion etc another sign of a good story. I could go on. This is one of the finest shows ever made. Have a good day reader
That scene when Cutty is advocating for the gym, I remember the first time, it felt kind of tense, then really tense when he wouldn't give in. You really hoped for the best for Cutty and those kids, but realized life is hard. Then he slips the bit about $10k and the amount of relief the audience(and Cutty get) is so amazing. 'Maaan get him $15000 cash' still love that bit and glad it's included
The scene of Cutty telling Avon that he's leaving the game is one of my all time favorite scenes too... The way Cutty literally STEPS to Avon saying "Naw, I ain't making myself clear" is really the only time we see someone else straight up telling Avon how it is.
The wire is one of my favorite shows some of the best moments in my opinion were when avon let cutty walk away from the game, when colvin adopted namond, when weebay "persuaded" delonda to let namond go, when bubbles talked about sharod in the meeting and the best moment in my opinion when his sister let him come up the stairs
The best TV drama ever with characters that were so beautifully developed directed and acted they still feel like they are a part of my life. I watch the entire series about every year. And I never ceases to find a treasure I may have missed before even after more views than I'm embarrassed to admit. The only tragedy is that all of the issues addressed are more alive in real life now more than at time it aired. Mad respect and much love to everyone involved in this exemplary body of work that they deserve to be so proud of. 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Perhaps not as noble as anything on your list, but i liked when D’Angelo covers for and then defends Wallace against Avon and Stringer. He just wanted to help him. Speaking of Wallace, you’ve also got him practically being parent to the hoppers in the Pit, something Carver reminded me of later with his “new tax initiative”
#1 Partlow beating the breaks & more off Michael's father after seeing in Michael's eyes why that scumbag had to go. #2 Omar getting the drop on Slim & Slim not cowering after Omar saying, "Don't make me hurt you Slim." That showed that Omar respected Slim also. #3 Marlo not going crazy after seeing Michael with Andre's ring. #4 Hitters from opposite teams, Chris & Weebey, meeting up in prison & likely reminiscing over all the game players they had to take out over the years. #5 Mayor Royce trying to figure out how to turn Hamsterdam into something he could use politically.
Mate, you're genuinely a top class content creator, your scripts are well written and delivered and you provide insight on shows and films that makes me re-examine my own long held views on media I've consumed countless times. However, "sigma" over "noble" in the title is clickbait and beneath you, frankly. I've watched you since the start and the gentle slide in scripts towards more meme quotes I'm at peace with, it's all in the game, but don't cheapen yourself, spoken as a day one fan. Edit: I'm not down voting this vid and I've actually just subscribed which I should have done previously, but constructive criticism is necessary when you've got talent.
I gotta say: I did like the idea of Stringer going legit. His methods were often suspect but I liked the idea that he knew the limits of “the game” and sought to avert the futility of it.
Honorable Mention: Poot for never being a character with overwhelming wit, skill or power, yet surviving the Baltimore scene and simply being a survivor.
One recommendation for honorable mention: the brief, poignant scene in the school hallway between Cutty and Grace. Once an item, they both realize their paths in life have diverged and are moving on. It's a scene that could easily have been omitted as Simon & Co. were culling to fit the episode into an hour, but it's a really nice touch.
Also a G moment, when Kima refusing to pick her shooter after she was shot during undercover work. Bunk was pointing at the suspects picture who he wanted to get arrested, but she refuses to cooperate cuz she didnt see the shooter. Despite everything, Kima dint wanted to cath the guy working dirty. G shit.
McNulty at the end of Season 2 Episode 8 refusing to stay with Beadie deserves a mention. Even though he finally joined the unit again, his self destructive behavior was still prominent and he didn’t want to put that upon her.
The appeal of the Wire is that it have characters that we know in real life. Plus we see the humanity coming in conflict with the characters in the vicious drug game.
Another moment that always stood out to me was when Michael fought those dudes that were about to jump Randy. He acted first then asked questions later, dude really was the leader of that group.
Thank you for your analysis. This series was a hit due to great writing, direction, and great acting. And all the other things that go into a brilliant production. But all of it stems from the city of Baltimore itself. I got out of prison in 1991. I had a serious drug habit before going in. When I got out I went up there, twenty miles one way without owning a car, from my home to Baltimore, to try the heroin there. I tried the heroin for twenty years. We went up at all hours, twenty fours a day, every day of the year. And the humanity you've seen on the screen in "the Wire" was reflected by the humanity we saw in the streets of Baltimore. Make no mistakes about it, have no illusions on this issue, Baltimore is a very dangerous city. And on the streets even good men get mugged. But I saw many times that those who walked honorably, upright, and humbly, were themselves rewarded for that humanity, and by the same cast of characters that made up the series. Real people, from drug dealers, and soldiers, from cops to criminals. People who, despite their environment, played the game with humility, compassion and wisdom. ( Everything's in my autobiography.) Maybe it was just my karma, my good fortune, but over twenty years I saw first hand people playing the game straight! Honor, humility and humanity are not dead in Baltimore. To all the brothers out on those corners. To Lenny at S. Carey, to the cops that didn't bust me, to the C.O.'s at the correctional facilities. To all the brothers on that paper chase. Thank you. Good lookin out 'cuz! Keep stacking that cheddar! I got nothing but love for Baltimore.

@@wallcity318 he did, bunk was handing out money saying don’t forget where the money came from to all the kids, marlo was killing in his name cause people would talk bad or stand up, if marlo’s name would be promoted through the streets he would surely do it, it was clear
@@RetroVideoGamer23 that was something small tho, thats how he recruited. Marlo wasnt trying to help nothing but himself, even the favor to mike had a string tied to it
@@wallcity318 no that was a big factor, he killed june and his whole family for name calling, he cared heavily of his rep, he wanted his name to ring out, when bunk finished giving the kids the money in his name he said to Marlo “your name will ring out”, also he freaked out in jail when he heard omar punked him and knew his rep got hurt, avon tried his hardest to stay in the shadows while marlo was opposite
I have been saying that the population is malnourished for years but, the difference between being healthy and being unhealthy is food prices. The unhealthy foods are cheaper than the organic foods. And when you have 4 mouths to feed with only $250 to spend. You choose a full stomach over staying healthy. It's a tough dilemma
We're all in this strange life, going through different issues, but in the end, we're all basically the same, sometimes good, sometimes evil, just trying to make it to the next day. Gotta let good prevail over evil, that's a battle every human on earth goes through.
Just don't stop with The Wire videos, and please, please make video on Frank Sobotka, as long as you want, he is the most overlooked character. Keep up the great work! Edit: You missed the point that Frank had defensive wounds when his body was found. He fought back the Greeks and died standing tall. Ultimate blue-collar sigma. Sobotka!
First time I watched the show when cutty told Avon he’s out the game I said oh he a dead man even after avons reaction I thought they were just gonna take him out later on, then when he gave him the money for the gym Avon became one of my fave characters
Solid list. I would have included D’Angelo’s Great Gatsby interpretation (from prison), and the “global warming” argument between Poot and Bodie in S4. Maybe those aren’t “gangster” moments though.
After Herc f's up by losing the camera to Marlo, and Internal Affairs comes calling for Dozerman, Sydnor and Herc, he takes sole responsibility. He's an idiot, but at least he wasn't trying to spread the blame in that moment.
Someone feel free to correct me but in Season 2 Ott doesn't step down from running as treasurer of the IBS out of respect for Frank. He drops out of the run because the union has all eyes on it and he doesn't want to be caught up in the mess Frank created. Thereby having the local decertified and run by the Justice dept. If Ott had stayed in the race he would have won by default and IBS would have stayed independent.
Ott took his campaign poster down cause the federal da said they had to elect a new union leader or be forced to shut down after Frank had been Murdered
Marlo paid for the back to school clothes. But Avon seemed more approachable than marlo. You see Avon in family situations. Marlo you only see in the game.
Avon was, is, and will always be a man. I never appreciated his character until I started watching your breakdowns. I think the rot that crept into his time wearing the crown emanated from Stringer Bell.
Naa wrong about slim, I think his intelligence has been undersold. I'm of the thinking he was always wanting a bigger role but wasn't stupid enough to step in when Marlo was in control, which would put himself at risk. The fact he was able to switch between sides and survive so long to finally be the one to sit down with the wholesalers proves it. Guy was smart as fuck man
#10 is the best scene in the whole show and the most important scene in Season 3. Because, when Cutty comes to him to tell him he wants out, Avon has been going through the same internal quesions he has been asking himself. Do I stay in the game or get out? Do I get out half way like Stringer wants me to? Do I stay and fight? I don't know how to do anything else - what will I do without this life? Cutty has a lot more left to lose than Avon - he has no money and potentially can get killed for his decision - yet he is firm in knowing what is right for him. Ultimately, I think it is what causes Avon to stay in the game. He respects that Cutty has taken a firm position and he does too - that the game is his life, he's good at it, and it has been good to him. He's not going to take Stringer's half in-half out position of getting out but playing financier.

Greatest show ever in my opinion.
Agreed
We ain't know Donut's life outta stealing cars.
Keep in mind, 15k back in 2006 when season 4 is set is about 22k today, so no chump change.
avon was my favorite character
Webay also knew his son wasn't cut out for the game.
Always right on time ⏲️ 👌 💯 🙌
How bout some videos on Sons of Anarchy???
Ok ill save you guys the trouble there's not a snowballs chance in hell Marlo on this list.😂😂😂
When Naymond gave Dookie the buck for an ice cream.. even though he only did it because of Michael
a man's got to have code
Can you do top 7 gyatts in the sopranos 🙏
Lansman was a totally brilliant character.
Why didn't you just make the video into two parts...
After Herc f's up by losing the camera to Marlo, and Internal Affairs comes calling for Dozerman, Sydnor and Herc, he takes sole responsibility. He's an idiot, but at least he wasn't trying to spread the blame in that moment.
Omar sparing Slim Charles
The Social Compact of the The Wire is
Fascinating
Someone feel free to correct me but in Season 2 Ott doesn't step down from running as treasurer of the IBS out of respect for Frank. He drops out of the run because the union has all eyes on it and he doesn't want to be caught up in the mess Frank created. Thereby having the local decertified and run by the Justice dept. If Ott had stayed in the race he would have won by default and IBS would have stayed independent.
Ott took his campaign poster down cause the federal da said they had to elect a new union leader or be forced to shut down after Frank had been Murdered
Good point. I never saw it like that. I could believe either interpretation.
Slim def genuinely thought he was at fault
Marlo paid for the back to school clothes. But Avon seemed more approachable than marlo. You see Avon in family situations. Marlo you only see in the game.
euhhhhh Is it the most gangster, the most Sigma, or the most noble ? Different words, same meaning ?
Avon was, is, and will always be a man. I never appreciated his character until I started watching your breakdowns. I think the rot that crept into his time wearing the crown emanated from Stringer Bell.
Naa wrong about slim, I think his intelligence has been undersold. I'm of the thinking he was always wanting a bigger role but wasn't stupid enough to step in when Marlo was in control, which would put himself at risk. The fact he was able to switch between sides and survive so long to finally be the one to sit down with the wholesalers proves it. Guy was smart as fuck man
Another good Michael K Williams show is "Hap and Leonard". It's not a gangster show but it's a good crime drama.
That’s worth watching for Christina Hendricks alone
Williams crushed it in Boardwalk Empire as well.
Sharrod shot up the drugs....He didn't drink the hot shot
Bhodie definitely should be on here
This is titled the Most Gangster Moments; so why is it the most Noble moments?? 😡
Taping into that sigma male crowd lol
"Hey David how's it-"
*blocked*
so the thumbnail says most gangster but youre actually doing sigma....seems a different vibe
