I don't understand why you'd buy this and a tent to go with it. You can just use your regular car and get a big tent. The Caddy California doesn't really add much to the experience except a single gas burner.

Not a chance in hell that VW will bring it to the US, of course. Too small for those few families who opt for vans over here. And despite its suitability for camping and "over-roading" we Americans prefer VWs that are larger and cheaper than our European counterparts. Still, for the "retired hippie" demographic it would be a great replacement for their aging Vanagens.

In any event, when the Monte Carlo did exist I doubt that anyone in that tiny principality felt that the Chevy somehow represented the lifestyle of a Mediterranean resort. The California, on the other hand, is obviously meant to evoke a sort of "Beach Blanket Bingo" vibe and would likely be a popular choice in California.
Great video, but I just don’t “get it” where the Caddy is concerned. You’ve seats for 5 people, as long as they don’t bring any luggage. The bed is realistically big enough for one adult, but you need a second one to put it up. There’s no inbuilt storage for the golf umbrella that you’ll need in order to make a morning coffee when it’s lashing it down outside, which you’ll then drink while sitting in the passenger seat because the back bench is full of all the stuff that won’t fit in the boot. Unless you haven’t put the bed away yet, in which case both front seats are as useless as the rear, and you may as well stand there in the rain with your brolly and your brew, wondering how much worse off you’d really be with a proper estate car, a tent, and some folding beach furniture.
Our taxes are ridiculous but a serious discussion needs to be had about moving to left hand drive. If we are in Europe we should go all in and then allow us the option to buy our cars in mainland Europe.
This is a ridiculous p** take from vw it’s has no real life use above a normal caddy for the price. Save €50 plus grand and get yourself a top of the range family tent with porti potty and stove. 😳. Great reviewer.

Sorry VW but it doesn’t really cut it as a camper you should have looked at some of the Caddy van conversions.
A better option is to buy a good tent instead. Much cheaper too.
