Unlock Luigi and play through the Mario 64 levels you know and love from a new perspective. Help Luigi collect all 120 Green Stars with his new movement and unlock a fun reward!
Green Stars cannot be used to open the castle doors since they do not have the same energy as Power Stars. Looks like Mario has to do all the important work once again, despite Luigi’s efforts!
Luigi's Features:
- Faster movement, slower acceleration
- Floatier, higher scuttle jump
- Slippery ground physics
- Faster but looser swimming
- Drowns slightly faster
- Longer vanish cap duration
- Shorter wing cap duration
- Backflip twirl
- Lower long jump
- Takes double damage
- Bowser is harder to defeat!
To unlock Luigi you must:
Either:
Collect all 120 Power Stars
Collect 24 coins while on 1 life in any course, then exit
Then go to the Castle Courtyard to find a Boo waiting for you!
This patch is for sm64port-master, US only, but the creator may port it to sm64ex in the future. This project was created in June which is why the beta Luigi model wasn't used..

Here's an interesting idea; when playing as Wario, each level turns into a hunt for treasure with a time limit like a Wario Land game.

Nah, you have to find 3 star pieces in the level and it works like Knuckles in sonic adventure

I wish I had the time to experiment with this, it sounds really fun to program!
Now, if only the official model can be applied here and maybe very slightly up the pitch of the voice lines a bit, this'll be a real ideal Luigi mod in my eyes.

I raised the pitch a little, any higher and it sounded too weird

So cool. It feels like an official add on if Nintendo never became lazy and complacent, like the Mario Galaxy luigi mode. It would be cool if Luigi had completely different stars, maybe with some of them well hidden in the levels.
This is a cool idea, it's like the separate campaigns of Mario Galaxy!

Yes it would be nice to combine the two, have the ghost there to tell you about it, and have the pipe there to change to Luigi and Mario but take out the switch between the two at the main castle floor because of how Luigi and Mario turn floating doesn't look right at all.
Honestly if you're playing Render96 you're better off using their Luigi anyway! They did a great job of getting him in the game in my opinion

Luigi actually has quite a few tweaks, and on top of that he takes double damage! Unreal put a list of the tweaks I made into the description of you're curious what is different
Switching between the Bros in this mod is almost like how it was done in Galaxy.
That was my inspiration for the mechanic!

Yeah but it's just these two games. In mario kart 64 he doesn't sound like this. Even the voice files found in the beta source were his normal voice. I think this is because smash Bros wasn't made directly by nintendo

Making the voice higher doesn't make sense, but I wasn't sure how to get new clips in and make it sound right. It was a lot of work just to get the clips to play at a higher pitch, let alone add new ones!

Wowwwww something like this would have been awesome for nintendo to do in a real remaster of sm64..have some specific levels/stars that can only be completed by Luigi.. I hope that in the modding community we can get a dope remaster. Possibly a new castle full of new levels behind the original castle where we can only play as luigi to complete the rest of the game.
...isn't that exactly what they did in Mario 64 DS? It's... Mario, Luigi, Yoshi... and someone else, and like SMB2 they all have slightly different abilities, and they modified a bunch of the levels so certain stars were only accessible by certain characters. People weren't super thrilled with it... I'm not sure I would be either, for nostalgia reasons.
Would be very cool if the green stars was from different mission and not the same mission as the normal stars that mario can get, maybe in the future. XD

This mod should be updated so that Mario actually has an idle animation (instead of being absolutely still) and so that it uses the beta model of Luigi. I think that would be a good fix. (Also maybe some newer official voice lines for Luigi instead of just using Mario’s voice pitched up.)

you should replace luigis voice lines with the super mario 64 DS ones, that way it stays official and he doesnt sound like a pitched up mario.
I think his ds voice might be a bit too bit crushed to sound normal on Mario 64, but they could just use his voice lines from any other Mario game that he appears in

hello install the mod but i enter the game when peach comes out i get corrupted images and when mario comes out he has a purple suit with his hat and with corrupted images on the buttons and on the hat and on the eyes instead of leaving the same ones i Corrupt images appear and Mario's mustache and even if he goes to the garden, the boo doesn't come out to have Luigi, can you help me please?
