    It's nice to see someone getting admiration who really deserves it. So many fake heroes in our society --this guy is the real thing.

    Mr. Sully,
    You, Jeff and your flight crew ARE heroes!! It's not just about doing your job. You went above and beyond flying a plane. You turned a river into a runway, something that no other pilot has ever done, and hopefully never have to do again... Any time your name is mentioned, I hear, " Oh, the pilot that landed that plane on the Hudson River"... You will forever be known as a Hero, and I love the movie portraying you. Seen it 17 times, and I'll watch it again tonight!! hahaha

    I just saw the movie last night and couldn't believe how the NTSB was trying to crucify both Sully and Skiles. Especially when they told them how many simulations had been made for both LaGuardia and Teterboro and that all of them proved that they could have made it back. Then when he got to take away those 35 seconds, what a game changer, proving that The Capt. and FO did make the right decision. It's easy when you're in the simulator and while they are trying to make it as real as possible, it can't be. Every pilot went into that simulator knowing they would have a bird strike and how it was supposed to end, so that made it pretty unfair to Sully and Skiles. I enjoyed the credits at the end.

      It was a desperate Hollywood spin to create an antagonist for dramatic effect. In reality the NTSB never doubted Sully's decision and certainly didn't try to 'crucify' him.

      @@chrisa2204Yeah, the hearings in the movie were nothing like the actual hearings, which are available right here on TH-cam. It was the NTSB that added the 35 seconds... the experts on the investigation team (many of whom are also pilots) determined that 35 seconds was the time needed to evaluate and verify the nature of the emergency (loss of both engines).

      Don't believe everything you see in a movie. The movie makes it seem like the NTSB was on a witch hunt. In reality they were just being thorough which is their job.

    • @johnfowler1627
      @johnfowler1627 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Except that none of that ever happened. It was added to the movie to make it more dramatic. The actual NTSB interview with Sullenberger and the NTSB's final report are both available right here on TH-cam (they were public hearings). They are very matter-of-fact -- Sully is asked questions and he gives answers -- nothing like the way the movie depicted it. The hearings are also, of course, very boring and non-confrontational. Eastwood (the director) had to invent the drama if he wanted to sell tickets and make this movie a success.

    I loathe it when this Happens, the gall it takes to criticize the crew, to try and make them look irresponsible! Its really easy to sit in an office and nitpick the decisions made. To try and say they were wrong and what they should have done they were not there, they were not minutes from crashing. Sully not only saved the passenger's but also many in the city. Can you imagine what would have happened if theyd have crashed in the city!?. The proof of the correctness of Sullys decision is plain and obvious 155 ppl still alive! That wasn't luck! While i do understand the need for thoroughness on the NTSB's part, it seems as though several were out to get Sully
    Perhaps they dislike him because he really is a hero and his plain humble courage shines a light on thier cowardice

      It was a desperate Hollywood spin to create an antagonist for dramatic effect. In reality the NTSB never doubted Sully's decision. And really, calling the NTSB cowards? They often go into the most foreboding areas of the planet to investigate crashes when an American made/owned airliner is involved.

  • @boatlover1875
    @boatlover1875 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Realistically, he made the best choice. Had he made an instant choice to go back to LGB or even TEB (short runway without reverse thrust and an urban area), probably could have though not a sure thing by far. EWR was not possible. This had to be a split second decision and the pilots made historic attempts to restart the engines for a more sure outcome. They had no idea how bad the damage was to the engines. No lives lost, how can you criticize that? Has a commercial AC ever made a water landing without lives lost? Can't remember one.

    • @boatlover1875
      @boatlover1875 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW, his "out of the box" thinking to restart the APU was critical for flight control. Apparently not a part of the checklist.

    • @Designer-Alan
      @Designer-Alan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the time, none of the NTSB investigation side of things was known, except to the people who read the autobiography. It was an untold story in September 2016

    • @Designer-Alan
      @Designer-Alan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Connie Kaniewski That is true in the movie; it was written that way for drama and conflict. Capt. Sullenberger himself has never suggested in any interview that this actually happened. What he says is that the Board had to dig into every possibility, and that for months he lived with the stress of uncertainty about what the findings would be, whether he really did do the right thing, and his own future. If you read the NTSB report, especially the recommendations, the story reads quite differently. There is no hint of antagonism or blame toward the flight crew.

    • @johnfowler1627
      @johnfowler1627 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Connie Nope. None of that ever happened. It was created for movie drama. According to director Eastwood, the story "needed a villain" and he decided the NTSB would be it. The NTSB never blamed or even tried to blame Sully for anything. In fact, that's not even the NTSB's job. That would be the FAA, and any role the FAA had is not depicted in the film. All of the REAL video of the NTSB interview with Sully and the Final Report is available right here on TH-cam. Warning... It's very long and quite boring.

    The NTSB and other "officials" seemed to treat both pilots and the controller as criminal terrorists and put them through the wringer. Completely unwarranted. I would have balked by the second question, in fact while they were being "escorted into interrogation.
