She's a classic.

In Miller's case it carried over to basketball, but it's carried over to all of her life. Her parents are the real role models, and they can be very proud of her. Simply put, they raised her right.

Reggie sounds so much like her, and it’s obvious that he patterned hisself around her in so many ways. Kudos for him for always respecting her publicly and not just in private. He’s always said she was better than him. As far as Cheryl goes, imagine her coming along about 8 years later and with better mental health and physical support. She’d have dominated the W beyond even what Houston did in dominance. But it wasn’t meant to be. I am glad she’s at peace.
She made waves nobody has ever done in a pro league before. The First Black women to be Named coach and GM, for the WNBA team. The impact can never be measured. We can be and do anything we so desire.

Turning 60, and was a huge fan of hoop in the '80's. Coach ball, too. The thing that makes C. Miller special is her toughness. She sticks her nose into it. Very physical, and attacks the basket. That is very special for a ball player, and for the women's game it is very rare. During that era, she was unstoppable.

Cheryl Miller is the GOAT. She was the person that got me to watch women’s basketball. It was one of her NCAAW championship game. She played like a guy. Her team was so dominating. They were one of the best NCAAW teams in history. I had the opportunity to meet her prior to boarding the plane to New Orleans for Olympics trial. She and one of the McGee twins probably bumped me from first class that day.
Great interview! Cheryl hit some chords that caused me to reach for tissues as well! I was not a great dad coach and that impacted my relationship with my daughter in the past. Her reflection of dad as the necessary “task master” displayed great wisdom, and at times great pain. All dads should see this interview, so that they can listen to their daughter’s heart and understand what’s most important! I remember Cheryl! She’s a sweetheart! I saw her play while I was in High School. Watching her play with the same number as me 31, motivated me to give it my all. So I understood her passion on the court. The tv doesn’t do justice to the women’s game. I read about her 105 night, but when I saw her play Cal…the press they put on and the steals she had was really motivated me on defense. There hasn’t really been a player like her yet. Candace Parker came close, but, Cheryl could actually controllably handle the rock 🏀

What an amazing example for all generations of athletes; what a wonderful example of how to grow in grace and, through discipline and hardworking, excel at the highest level, in sports and in life. Not were she and her brother among America’s greatest players, but they did so with honor and grace. Cheryl, you were a great role model in every way. I was a professor (Pepperdine) and a preacher, and I loved to preach so much that I drove from Ventura county to Riverside to preach for a small church. i remember how proud a retired Riverside high school teacher was of Cheryl and Reggie Miller. He kept telling me about the two of them,not as professional athletes, but as young citizens and high school athletes. In fact, I came close to taking a role as a dean at Cal Baptist, largely because of my emeries of those trips to Riverside and the realization that folks out there were more like my background. I was from rural Southern Illinois, not from any place even close to where a faculty member can live when teaching in Malibu, CA (no, just because the University is prestigious, it does not mean you are paid like UCLA or USC pays. Living in Malibu is an option only if you live on campus! At the time I was offered a position in Riverside, we lived on campus. Malibu was never home. Home is where one interacts with people from many different walks in life, show you life when you live with honor but little money. I leaned what it was to be a servant leader by growing up in a rural town of 800 or so. Everyone is your neighbor; everyone keeps an eye out for you. To be mentioned by others in a wonderful like that was to learn sincerity, humility, and other-directed ness. To this day, I owe the President of a small town bank more than I could explain. I could legally call Glen and say, “Glen, I know what check kiting is. I will not do that, but my college stipend comes in three days, I am going to write a check on your bank today. I think my two-day delivery (my mail to him) will get you my deposit in time. If not, please forgive me. Every time I came into the bank (after returning to Southern Illinois to practice law, and later, teach at a college and preach), Glen asked about me. He had recommended me for my first job, at a bank in the County Seat. I left in slightly less in9 months, as the local bank leadership was engaged in unlawful activity. Once I determined I was leaving, I had the pleasure of keeping Glen informed about the move made by the man (later a convicted felon, so justice sometimes prevails; unfortunately he took a lot of good people down with him (every officer convicted of a felony; never allowed to be in financial institutions again, including the young man who followed me). By the time that occurred, I was practicing law abut 50 miles away. One of the prosecuted bankers, my former supervisor, called. By the time I found the documents he had signed for me (noting I had reported the illegal activity to him), he had turned state’s evidence. I said, John, I am sorry. However, when my wife and I drive by the house we were building on the lake, I say, “We might have liked that house, but if we lived there, it would mean I would be a convicted felon.” She knew it was true, and i was reminded that the holder rule, a tradition I learned from my father, live by this rule: “Do the right thing.” Cheryl, an exceptional athlete, was raised to live according to the highest values, with humility, with hard work, all of which, along with God’s gift of extraordinary talent in sports and life, makes her a motivational life-force. Cheryl Miller is the only female basketball player that I watched and appreciated. She was better then Reggie and should have had as long and fruitful pro career as he did. Unfortunately, women's BB has never had the following. I always felt bad that she didn't get the chance to earn the really big bucks and following. Not only is she the GOAT, she is a wonderful human.

WOW. The greatness and the personalities of Dan Patrick and Cheryl Miller made this one of the best sports interviews ever. I remember watching Cheryl Miller in the 1984 Olympics and thinking that she was twice as good as anyone on the court with her all around great game. If the WNBA had existed in 1986 and she never tore her ACL there is no question that she would have dominated the league for 15 years. She was decades ahead of her time in women's basketball -- just watch her form and elevation on her jump shot -- and her great athleticism. I have always said that Miller was the greatest women's basketball player of all time until Caitlin Clark's breakout season last year. Clark has yet to prove it at the next level but I think she will and 10 years from now she will go down as the greatest player ever. Even if Clark does this it will not take away from the greatness of Miller who held that title for 40-50 years (at least in my eyes).
Even when Caitlin does dominate the W, Cheryl Miller will still be the greatest Women Basketball Player ever. It the all around person I’m measuring and nobody is taking that away from her. Without social media, she had the viewers and the following and she did it in a span of a decade or so. Then the explosion expanded in the W and TNT. It was her love for the game that evolved her. Nothing can’t beat Love❤️
@@drdomonisahurley Yes and no. Right now Miller is still the GOAT overall but Clark will be after she tears up the WNBA for the next 15 years (barring major injuries). And while Miller had a more successful college career for all 4 years Clark has played at a higher level the last 2 years than any women if college basketball history.

A lot of people don't know how scary good Cheryl Miller was. She dropped 105 points in a game once. She averaged around 23-24 points per game until she blew out her knee. She won two NCAA Championships. She had a killer instinct, and she embarrassed or demoralized anyone who tried to guard her. She was just a dog on the court
I can’t help wondering if Cynthia Cooper was the teammate that she punched before the 1986 title game. Can’t help notice Coop seemingly being bothered by something on her face as they were coming out of the tunnel onto the floor at the 31:12 mark. 😄 I absolutely LOVE Cheryl Miller; I have for decades, but now more than ever, thanks to this video. Cheryl Miller is the one celebrity I wish I could meet because she seems so funny and down to earth and also her brother, Reggie. They grew up in Riverside which is just an hour away from me.
Greatest female player Madam Cheryl Miller. I watched her and often thought that she was as good as not only female players and most males. Love her honesty about her fears playing. Excellent interview.. I ve always said finishing 1st all the time is unrealistic. Cause in LIFE you wont always finish 1st. But the character you build , and how u realize it will take to top. So in yhe End you'll finish 1st in respect and in LIFE.

I was going to Long Beach State in the 80's and women's basketball was the big sport for the school at the time where we were usually ranked top 10. We could never make it out of the west in the tourney because Cheryl was always there. Such an awesome player.

I think Cindy put up something like 50 pts at UC Riverside (?) at some point in time. It looks like I might have been mistaken about not being able to get past USC in the west as it looks like the Beach was in the Final Four a couple times but, in my mind, USC and Cheryl was always the problem. lol.
Fellow CSULB alumni here. We did make it to the Elite 16, Elite 8 and twice to the final 4 (1987, 1988). There were some battles with SC in the old campus gym. We would win at home and they would win on their home court. I remember her visiting CSULB before committing to SC.
Cheryl was a great player and was definitely "one of the players" making it easier for the next couple of generations. However, just a reminder, that there were many women that also made it a bit easier for Cheryl, praise should recognize all of the various levels. But indeed, Cheryl was a great player.

Check out Pearl Moore from South Carolina. She is a Hall of Famer, scored 60 points in one game and has more points than Caitlan Clark, over 4,000 without shooting 3-pointers.
Pearl Moore doesn’t haven’t more points than Caitlin as she played division 2 and Caitlin played division 1. The record holder for the division 1 was Lynette Woodard until Caitlin broke it.
People certainly need a refresher on her greatness. She beat up her brother on the court. Her brother became a nba hall of famer. Reggie miller was humbled . He will always be known as cheryl's younger brother. Hey, not too shabby. She scored 105 in hs game

But now I know he is your brother. And now I realize you were a trailblazer. Being in Iowa, I’ve joined the Caitlyn Clark band wagon. She’s really good, even great. But she stands on your (and others’) shoulders. I admire your humility, graciousness and competitiveness. Thanks!
WOW. The greatness and the personalities of Dan Patrick and Cheryl Miller made this one of the best sports interviews ever. I remember watching Cheryl Miller in the 1984 Olympics and thinking that she was twice as good as anyone on the court with her all around great game. If the WNBA had existed in 1986 and she never tore her ACL there is no question that she would have dominated the league for 15 years. She was decades ahead of her time in women's basketball -- just watch her form and elevation on her jump shot -- and her great athleticism. I have always said that Miller was the greatest women's basketball player of all time until Caitlin Clark's breakout season last year. Clark has yet to prove it at the next level but I think she will and 10 years from now she will go down as the greatest player ever. Even if Clark does this it will not take away from the greatness of Miller who held that title for 40-50 years (at least in my eyes).

Even when Caitlin does dominate the W, Cheryl Miller will still be the greatest Women Basketball Player ever. It the all around person I’m measuring and nobody is taking that away from her. Without social media, she had the viewers and the following and she did it in a span of a decade or so. Then the explosion expanded in the W and TNT. It was her love for the game that evolved her. Nothing can’t beat Love❤️
@@drdomonisahurley Yes and no. Right now Miller is still the GOAT overall but Clark will be after she tears up the WNBA for the next 15 years (barring major injuries). And while Miller had a more successful college career for all 4 years Clark has played at a higher level the last 2 years than any women if college basketball history.

A lot of people don't know how scary good Cheryl Miller was. She dropped 105 points in a game once. She averaged around 23-24 points per game until she blew out her knee. She won two NCAA Championships. She had a killer instinct, and she embarrassed or demoralized anyone who tried to guard her. She was just a dog on the court
Not to mention 3x NCAA Player of the Year and 2x Finals MVP. She is the GOAT of women's basketball.

Caitlyn Clark has renewed my interest, it was great to see Cheryl working with Caitlyn and the other amazing women athletes.
I hope Cheryl Miller does more interviews keep her name alive...I wish she do a interview where fans can ask questions....I never hear her talk about the other great players she played wit like Teresa Edwards,Katrina Mcclain,Teresa Weatherspoon,Janice Lawerence...And how did it feel that players her age got to play in the WNBA and she didnt

This was a great interview and so appreciated. However, I wish she would have spoken more about WBB and the outstanding players of today. I wish she would have spoken about a particular coach or player that had changed her life. TY, Cheryl Miller, for giving your mother and father so many props.

Cheryl Miller is the one celebrity I wish I could meet because she seems so funny and down to earth and also her brother, Reggie. They grew up in Riverside which is just an hour away from me.

My dad and I were fortunate enough to watch Cheryl and the Magee twins at Notre Dame, long before ND was ND. What a show those three put on. "You were a great basketball player.", now I need some Kleenex.

I was going to Long Beach State in the 80's and women's basketball was the big sport for the school at the time where we were usually ranked top 10. We could never make it out of the west in the tourney because Cheryl was always there. Such an awesome player.

@@miquel-u3k Yeah, exactly! Then Penny Toler transferred over from SDSU. I'm not sure if all three of them played together or if Pollard graduated. I think Cindy put up something like 50 pts at UC Riverside (?) at some point in time. It looks like I might have been mistaken about not being able to get past USC in the west as it looks like the Beach was in the Final Four a couple times but, in my mind, USC and Cheryl was always the problem. lol.
Fellow CSULB alumni here. We did make it to the Elite 16, Elite 8 and twice to the final 4 (1987, 1988). There were some battles with SC in the old campus gym. We would win at home and they would win on their home court. I remember her visiting CSULB before committing to SC.
Cheryl was a great player and was definitely "one of the players" making it easier for the next couple of generations. However, just a reminder, that there were many women that also made it a bit easier for Cheryl, praise should recognize all of the various levels. But indeed, Cheryl was a great player.

I have been a fan of hers, for years and I love her attitude I'm the one that doesn't like to lose neither. but I will give respect but it goes to bed with it and think damn we should have won that game I should have done better.

Check out Pearl Moore from South Carolina. She is a Hall of Famer, scored 60 points in one game and has more points than Caitlan Clark, over 4,000 without shooting 3-pointers.
Pearl Moore doesn’t haven’t more points than Caitlin as she played division 2 and Caitlin played division 1. The record holder for the division 1 was Lynette Woodard until Caitlin broke it.
People certainly need a refresher on her greatness. She beat up her brother on the court. Her brother became a nba hall of famer. Reggie miller was humbled . He will always be known as cheryl's younger brother. Hey, not too shabby. She scored 105 in hs game
