That's something he hasn't been in *many* years, and it's not like it would require any significant change in Sonya's, Jax's, or Kano's backstories or personalities. Hell, Kano managed to be the most campy element even in the Red Ban trailer, so he could certainly use it.
Honestly, I am much more on par with the idea of Jax's insecurity leading him to get metal sleeves for his arms. It humanizes him by giving him a genuine concern that you'd expect from someone who went from being a soldier amongst other humans to someone now involved in fighting monsters, gods and all sorts of things he'd only read about in fantasy books, but are very much REAL and absurdly powerful.
Raider could’ve said that his metal arms weren’t meant to be replacement cybernetic arms to compensate his lost ripped out arms of his. Instead they were metal enhanced implants made for a boost of strength and to give him laser beams. Making them so useful for fighting threats that wish to harm earth realm
Jax’s is fated to always loose his arms like joe from family guy fated to always be in a wheelchair. 1:07 nice! Is there an origin for liu kang’s dragon form? Also snake can you rant about the recent mortal kombat not having chun-li in the new movie? It’s fucking hilarious.
Jax losing his arms is a fixed point in the MK timeline, just like Raiden becoming Dark Raiden or Liu Kang dying, they are all fixed events in time it's not a question as to how but when they'll happen
I understand that fatalities aren't fully canon, but Jax having the ability to turn his metal arms into blades when they're probably just implants will always allude me.
I like the idea of them being taken from Jax. It was Ermac’s one noteable thing he did in Mk9, and if Sub Zero will be an antagonist working with Shang Tsung not out to kill him, it could work I guess taking away a minority’s arms
@@Red_1911 Ermac wasn’t even in MK1 or MK2 either so that argument doesn’t work here since how could he have been the one to do it originally when he wasn’t even a character yet during that time period.
I could see Motaro or Kintara damaging Jax's arms in a new retelling and him defeating them in a rematch while saying something along the lines of, "In a way, I kind of owe you".
Six. Jax's metal arms have SIX ORIGIN STORIES. -MK3, Annihilation, and DotR: he just decides to do it, no reason given beyond preparedness. It's the exact same story told (or not told, depending who you ask) three times. The metal arms can be removed whenever he likes, revealing his real ones to be intact as seen in the games and the adaptations. -Cancelled comic: Baraka severs his nerves. How canon to the above is dubious as it was never followed up on. -MK9: Ermac apparently telekinetically compressed them into microsingularities? I guess? So his arms are complete machinery, perhaps powered by the energy from having his actual arms compressed to such density. -Cancelled web series: he gets hurt in an explosion. We don't find out if they're being surgically repaired or out and out replaced, but either way it's neither because of another major character nor a personal choice. -Scorpion's Revenge, which correct me if I'm wrong is supposed to be canon to the games: Goro straight up tears them off to set up having implants attached. -2021 movie: Sub Zero freezes and shatters them, also to set up having implants attached. The 2011 game and the SR movie take place in the same timeline of the same continuity and FLAT OUT CONTRADICT EACH OTHER - please, please, PLEASE tell me I'm wrong about them sharing a timeline because the writing of this franchise has gotten shit enough without that being true :P Yeah, fuck this series. It's gone full superman comic book with the way basic shit like "what happened in the story" can't be answered by its own writers, and I just can't be arsed any more.
I think Jax losing is arms could actually be a big moment for him like giving a chance to really show how strong he is. Like Jackson's taking on girl or ermac Or another high level fighter. Even though Jax is clearly outmatched He flights back with everything he as letting some really good blows on his opponent. Eventually his enemywears down Jax enough to grab his arms and destroy them. Jax is dazed for a moment as his opponent mocks him. Jax gives one last attack Charging into his enemy As hard as you can maybe breaking a few ribs or something before finally passing out from his wounds.
I like all version but my favorite is the original one from the cartoon and annihilation with Jax starting with the bionic arms but learning to not become dependent of them and rediscoverying his self-confidence, making a much better character arc than having him losing his arms and gain new ones.
My favorite version is with ermac because it gives ermac a rival and it doesn't make him a jobber and this is a what if but if this happened in the original time line then it would have made ermac redemption ark be more heroic and jax could forgive him. That would be cool
I remember the story being, Kintaro from MK2 ripped off Jax's arms. Why is that in my head? Was that the story or did I make that up. Either way it's in the same places in my head that memories are.
And to think that in the original timeline, in between MK2 and MK3 the one who took his natural arms was none other than... Jax himself. Now they're being used as punching bags by villains for dramatic factor.
*My idea for a new Jax story;* Pre-MK 1/2: Jax volunteers to use experimental cybernetic implants *within* specific limbs - the arms, in Jax's case. Sometime during MK 2: Jax competes in the Outworld tournament with no hassle but is stated to have been able to knock out a bull in his youth, without the cybernetics. However, he gets his arms torn off, and the cybernetics with them. Possibly by Kintaro as revenge for beating him up earlier. Pre-MK 3: Jax gets full cyber-prosthetics to replace his arms. Post-MK 3: Over time, we see Jax get more & more upgrades on his arms, practically turning himself into the Special Forces' guineapig. Such improvements include; a tazer within the palm that can also act as a defibrillator, smoke pellets, flamethrowers, spinning hands that can act as makeshift drills, full 360-degree movement at the shoulder socket, and many more.
Considering Sonya's legs can keep up with Outworlders and Lui Kang, I am not entirely surprised that Jax can bareknuckle box with Shokan sometimes. But to think the writers are that indecisive about this is crazy. Tell you what? He is a former squad mate of Sonya's, whose arms got blown off in an explosion around the same time some jobbers like Lietenant Lance got killed by Kano. He showed up after Sonya gave a report after meeting Raiden so he could show the top brass the power of these new metal arms the engineering and weapons development branches have been developing. Boom: more infamy for Kano, bring in Tsu Hao for a real battle of the strongmen, he kills Kano and Tsu, and you can kill Jax off when if he fights Kintaro or Goro. Game set and match. I don't think anybody will be displeased by an idea like this.
Preferably I think Jax should get replacements since losing his arms to Bi han or Ermac ruins what redemption they have as characters. But if he should get his arms ripped off or damaged it should be against Shao Kahn since he was the main villain in the game he first debut in.
Even though Bi-Han was never a good guy to begin with since he wasn’t even being controlled against his will (while he was Sub-Zero) like Ermac was during the original trilogy time period.
@@RazuX5 Bi han was more of an anti hero for saving Earthrealm, but making him the one to take Jax's arms is like having Kano be the one to scar Subzero in the current timeline.
@@lamiacharmer6610 Bi-Han only saved earth realm because he had no choice given that he was face to face with Raiden otherwise if that wasn’t the case he would’ve ignored it.
@@RazuX5 your not wrong but Bi Han did have a few good redeemable qualities like being respected by his brother Kuai Liang and sparing Serena. He was mostly a bad guy through his association with the Lin Kuei like Smoke and Cyrax.
@@lamiacharmer6610 smoke and Cyrax weren’t bad people though and ultimately rebelled against the original Lin Kuei when the Cyber initiative begun and after they were freed from control they joined the forces of light.
So, this plot: The arms being enchantments and Jax later realizing he doesn't need them to kick ass. Idk, there's something I enjoy about it. Or maybe the next idea is to give more variety. Say that Jax's brute force can also harm his own arms or body, and thus the mechanical arms are there to limit the output and absorb the damage. Thus if Jack wants to go all out, he needs to remove them, but needs to finish the opponent quickly. I like these 2, but they're a bit too cliche I suppose.
For whatever reason, it hasn't been on TH-cam for a while. That said, from what I recall, they dropped the ball considerably on MK Legacy Season 2. I don't think Jax was even in it.
I have a question So Jax all the way back in the 90s had metal arms that weren't replacements but had him stronger Then why does Jacquie have cover up arms that are somehow worse than what her dad wore almost 25 years ago?
So, an inconsistency OF an inconsistency that was let slide and got away taking Jax's arms in the next timeline when he would have had 'em? Ok, no, yeah, of course it was.
My prediction is that in the next reboot Jax's arms will spontaneously explode and he'll grow new ones in the spot, either that or i don't know, Johnny Cage kicks his balls so hard that his arms explode.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about how much more he didn't need the arm's because in mk deadly alliance it talks about how he can harness his inner power to cause earthquake's.
Saying Jax losing his arms is a spoiler is like saying Scopion losing his family is a spoiler. As for the next person to rip his arms off? I say Hsu Hao. Jax ripped out his cybernetic heart, so it's only fair that he returns the favor by ripping off his arms.
I was never comfortable with the idea of Ermac doing it since it did nothing but sour the relationship with both characters and only makes things more difficult for Ermac’s chances for redemption and gives dumb newbie fans the wrong idea about them both.
Might as well be Kano "testing" his cybernetic eye to see the damage he can cause only for him to feel some heat/burning for pushing the limits of the cybernetic eye, which could explain why he shoots it like it was a laser bullet at times. That or reptile using his acid breath before Jax does his "gotcha" grab move
I feel like the kick ass robot arms kinda define his character and show-off earthrealms technological strength beyond strikers guns and Sonyas dumb drones. Without them he's just some army dude who punches good, but with them he's a disabled vet who could serve as a very effective propaganda figure for the war effort like captain America. It's cool to see a character with prosthetics and it feels like a copout to say "no, they're just really tight robot sleeves"
Well as of MK12 or at least Kenshi's ending, Jax still has his arms (though there is another Jax in the post-credits that's been disarmed) so what'll happen ther eis anyone's guess. Maybe he'll get a new power that let's him put Colossus-style steel skin over his arms for that extra oomph, maybe he'll get Yang Xiao Long-style gauntlets and keep the fleshy arms, or maybe none of that and he really will just keep his regular arms, and he's just that swole.
I like that it’s different a lot because it’s like it’s meant to happen no matter what. Just like how in Scorpion arcade ending no matter what he did his family always died. And it’s pretty interesting knowing you can’t stop fate. I dig it. And btw season 2 of MK is good.
Great video as always, but I have to add two things: first, while it's not a fundamental detail I believe it's worth noting that Jax still has a full skeleton when fatalities are performed on him in MK3. I'm not insinuating that a bunch of sprites is necessarily proof of anything in the canon, but allowing him to use regular sprites rather than having special ones might have played a role in the creators choosing not to be too specific about it, and in turn it might have been one reason why the adaptations interpreted them as enhancements rather than replacements. Second, I think you missed a detail about the fate of Jax's arms in the original timeline according to the reboot: in the opening cinematic of MK9, when Raiden sends the visions back to his younger self we see a bunch of scenes from the history of the series in reverse chronological order. One of these is Raiden witnessing Jax getting his bionic arms, shown as happening between Liu Kang's victory in the second tournament and the resurrection of Sindel. While the exact nature of the arms is not explained, I'm pretty sure Raiden being there implies that he was concerned for Jax's life (he wouldn't show up just to see him try a new weapon) so even if we don't know who's responsible for it I'm pretty sure the official version of the story (and you're free to consider it a retcon) is that Jax indeed got his arms ripped off or badly damaged in the second tournament.
I think they'll stick with the "replaced after severe injury" shtick. It could serve as a chance to show how dangerous and powerful an antagonist is, like with the mentioned scene with goro. But instead of someone from Outworld, it could be someone from Earthrealm. Like Kano! Let it be an arc repairing his reputation that was ruined by Jobbing to everyone.
Knowing NRS, they’re probably gonna try and say that D’Vorah ripped off his arms, or at least ordered Ermac to do it.

At least Jax getting his arms in the new Mk movie by getting them frozen off by Bi Han is much better explanation than how he got it in Annihilation.
@TheKillSwitch The frozen explanation is better because of hw it would work biologically, meaning explaininig how he would've survived it.
My bet is that the next person to ruin his arms will be Shawn Kittelsen. Nothing more dangerous than rampant retcons, after all.
Maybe Hsu Hao or Art Lean may take his arms next, who knows maybe Havik will eat them LOL
*Shawn Kittlesen walks into a room where Jax has been tied to a chair, arms intact*
Jax: "W-what? Who the Hell are you? How did I get my arms back?"
Kittlesen: "The timeline's been rebooted again. You know what that means buddy."
Jax: "Wait no, you can't do this! You have to uphold the lore! This is brutality!"
Kittlesen: "Wrong Jax. This isn't a brutality, this is *the needless dismemberment of an African American*"
I know you were joking about Kano being the one to destroy Jax's arms, but I think Kano getting to do that would at least give the illusion that he's a credible threat to the other Kombatants.
I like MK9’s explanation and his questions about whether he had the arms in the previous timeline. Too bad they went nowhere with that idea.
Kinda like how Kenny, Jet Fire, and Leomon always die!
Jax losing his arms is a fixed point in the MK timeline, just like Raiden becoming Dark Raiden or Liu Kang dying, they are all fixed events in time it's not a question as to how but when they'll happen
If there’s anything I learned here, is how ridiculously strong Jax actually has been WITHOUT his arms 😂.
It was stupid, Goro makes more sense.
@@RazuX5 why? Jax isn’t in mk1 and Goro isn’t in MK2 or 3.
@@Red_1911 Ermac wasn’t even in MK1 or MK2 either so that argument doesn’t work here since how could he have been the one to do it originally when he wasn’t even a character yet during that time period.
@@RazuX5 ok that’s true, but it still doesn’t defend how Goro makes more sense.
@@Red_1911 That’s just your opinion because you don’t like Ermac and you want him to stay on the villains side.
Jax will destroy his own arms next time by cracking his knuckles and shattering his arms in the process
I could see Motaro or Kintara damaging Jax's arms in a new retelling and him defeating them in a rematch while saying something along the lines of, "In a way, I kind of owe you".
Jax is the uncle Ben of the MK universe
Jax goes through arms now as much as Spiderman goes through Uncle Ben.
More like Batman parents getting shot
Lol writers of MK vs DC really thought Raiden and Shao Khan are brothers because of MK: Annihilation.
those apes at NRS just murdering the Tobias Lore
The 2011 game and the SR movie take place in the same timeline of the same continuity and FLAT OUT CONTRADICT EACH OTHER - please, please, PLEASE tell me I'm wrong about them sharing a timeline because the writing of this franchise has gotten shit enough without that being true :P
Yeah, fuck this series. It's gone full superman comic book with the way basic shit like "what happened in the story" can't be answered by its own writers, and I just can't be arsed any more.
it would be cool if Jax mess up in a mission and dark raiden would burn his hands just like he killed shujinko in his ending.
Jax does have a power. He loves to squash peopl
We love you, Snake! Keep setting lores straight!
Hold up...Tremor doing it actually as a touch of potential if ya wanna make Tremor a big deal in a new timeline.
the question shouldn't be "who will be the next?" it should be "who won't be"
Reptile can probably fuck up Jaxes arms
strongest man on earth ftw
In the next timeline Jax rips his own arms off and beats Ed Boon with them
With what his feet? How he gonna hold them? Is he gonna get metal arms and then takes his older ones and beat Ed boon with it?
@@spider-manunknown9193 He'll be holding his arms with his teeth🤣
@@spider-manunknown9193 jax beats ed boon with his mind😂
@@mansurislamov9595 the mighty jaws of the SPecial Forces operatives are not to be underestimated.
IMO D'vorah might be the next one to take Jax's arms. NRS always loved adding Dvorah in situations she was never apart of anyway.
Watch it be devorah who was “actual” one to remove his arms
I think Chun Li should destroy Jax's arms next. I mean, her spinning bird kick can probably knock someone's head clean off.
I remember the story being, Kintaro from MK2 ripped off Jax's arms. Why is that in my head? Was that the story or did I make that up. Either way it's in the same places in my head that memories are.
1:27 NAKED JAX WTF
And to think that in the original timeline, in between MK2 and MK3 the one who took his natural arms was none other than... Jax himself. Now they're being used as punching bags by villains for dramatic factor.
When watching MK Annihilation, I made a joke about Jax’s cybernetic sleeves. When Motaro rips them off his arms, I joked that Jax turned into MK2 Jax.
Jax looks like 50 cent in his 3D era alternative outfit lmao.
I will be impressed if they ever make Jax's arms be cybernetic sleeves again.
"Who killed King Jerrod? Who took Jax's arms?" We need these deep lore questions answered! Lol 😁
Next iteration of Jax will be a robot who losses everything but it's arms, and has it all replaced with prosthetics made of human flesh
*My idea for a new Jax story;*
Pre-MK 1/2: Jax volunteers to use experimental cybernetic implants *within* specific limbs - the arms, in Jax's case.
NRS dropped the ball, your idea way better.
I think the Ermac and Goro taking his arms stories are the best ones.
Subzero, Baraka, Ermac, and Goro: "I hate you!"
Jax's Arms:
Subzero, Baraka, Ermac, and Goro: "STOP MOCKING ME!!!"
A compromise. One arm is ripped out and the other cyberized!
I kinda like the idea of Baraka, Baraka needs some justice smh
Damn 2 days after your trailer vid here we are! Just as planned
In the new timeline it’s obviously not a question. His arms are replacements. I feel they left it ambiguous in the original timeline.
I have a question
So Jax all the way back in the 90s had metal arms that weren't replacements but had him stronger
Then why does Jacquie have cover up arms that are somehow worse than what her dad wore almost 25 years ago?
No idea but that Just nitpicking but whatever. 🤷♂️
Jacqui shouldn't exist anyway. Who cares
@@wally4087 she was cool to me but she’s probably B tier for me or C tier.
@@wally4087 agreed
Jacqui is okay but I find her boring to be honest.
Silly Snake, the true culprit behind Jax's metal arms is Quan Chi
except it's actually D'Vorah
except it's actually Twindel
Michael Jai White was a sick Jax.
Jax: MY ARMS!
Fred: MY LEG!
Buzz Lightyear: MY SHIP!
Cabbage Vendor: MY CABBAGES!
Eddy: MY HEAD!
Stu Pickles: My life...
Midway's MK...all the way!✊
Great video as always, but I have to add two things:
first, while it's not a fundamental detail I believe it's worth noting that Jax still has a full skeleton when fatalities are performed on him in MK3.
Who's gonna fuck up Jax's arms next? D'Vorrah
Obviously, in the next timeline D'Vorah's bugs will eat Jax's arms.
She will also be the one who defeats Onaga on behalf of Shao Kahn.
Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson
HOW MANY ORIGINS OF JAX ARMS YOU WANT MK: YES YESSSS YESSSSSSSS UNLIMITED ORIGINS OF JAX ARMS
The next one is gonna be Quan Chi disguised as Sub Zero.
