    Sepultura are one of the greatest thrash metal bands of all. These guys could barely speak English and yet their lyrics were better than any pop music today.
    And that breakdown midway through the song is one of the baddest ever 🤘

    • @shealanger
      @shealanger ปีที่แล้ว +8

      hell yeah, michael! about 20 years ago i read an interview max did where he talked about the lyrics. he said he got a lot of english lyrics by listening to slayer and venom. then as their english got better they realized what the songs were about, and were embarrassed by some of their own songs, like "antichrist". i always felt that dead embryonic cells had a slayer-esque vibe.

      I have watched some clips on the "Under Siege" Live Barcelona, and especially the version of "Inner Self" hits really hard, with the tempo UP ! It is easy to believe that they were
      influenced by 1980's hard core punk - rock.

    I bought this album when it came out because I liked the cover art. I hadn't heard of Sepultura. It was in the Metal section, and had a cool cover. I was SO glad I bought this! I popped the CD into my CD player in my room at the barracks when I was still in the Army, and I was blown away by this album's ferocity. Awesome album! Other must-listen songs on this album are the title track "Arise", and "Desperate Cry". The whole album is great, but this song and those two are the strongest I think.

  • @jamesportzline3496

    Sepultura borders thrash/early death metal. They had stardom in their home country of Brazil before reaching the US with two lesser known albums Morbid Visions and Schizophrenia which lean more towards death. Arise was a breakthrough record commercially for them.

    • @bobby_c07
      @bobby_c07 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Sepultra, i just love them, the Cavaleras just rule. Love their tribal influences and the mixture of metal, punk and tribal stuff, especially on Chaos A.D. and Roots albums. Their style is mostly descibed as trash metal, but with every album they sound a little different. Check out "Roots" !

      They started as actors of First wave of black and death metal. ( bestial devastation, Morbid Visions, Schizophrenia ).

  • @alienresearchlab

    Sepultura sorta flew under the radar of many metal heads back in the day. But people started catching on and now they are considered a classic thrash metal band which is well deserved. 'Beneath the Remains' and 'Arise' are their 2 best albums imo. A lot of their songs are about things going on in Brazil at the time. I got to meet Igor Calavera (drummer) in a Brazilian jiujitsu class when he was in town for a week. He signed all my CDs and was the quietest, humble guy you ever met. Not what I expected considering he is such a maniac on the drums. Rock on!

    The real Sepultura … Brazilian Death Metal. Beneath The Remains, Arise, and Chaos AD, are extraordinary albums! After that they adopted a more tribal sound and became more of a Groove Metal band, very different animal. Still pretty awesome, but yeah, not the same. And then Max (and eventually Igor) left and formed another excellent band, Soulfly. :). My fave album is still Arise though!

    This is from "Arise" which is definitely their best. The previous release "Beneath the Remains" was great, a little lacking in production, but when they put this sucker out...wow, they upped their game. Just the right amount of thrash, just the right amount of groove, and Igor (drummer) does an outstanding job, and the production is stellar. The band got less technical and more groove after this release, but nothing compared to "Arise" and "Beneath the Remains". I still listen to "Arise" regularly to this day 30 years later.

    This record and Entombeds - Clandestine is what got me into heavy music. Still consider Arise to be one of the 10 best albums ever. So good and the more you listen to it the better it get.

    Sepultura from Brazil were a shot in the arm for the extreme metal scene in 1990 - 1994... they were exactly the band we needed in the 90's to bring the genre of thrash & death metal to a peak... They even set the stage for nu-metal in the late 90's w/ their 1996 album 'Roots'... It's a pity the band splintered in 1997 and never truly recovered their massive popularity... But we now have 2 entities that are carving out extreme metal music - Sepultura... and Max Cavalera w/ his projects Soulfly, as well as Cavalera Conspiracy and other projects.

    Lex was definitely the 4Runner towards Metalhead in this Duo but I have to say that these days... It always puts a smile on my face when I see Brad turning into a squealing scorching so low that he would have turned his nose up at a few years back. Really incredible how far you guys are coming your broader palette of music and what you Zone in on now in terms of the way you listen to music. You definitely have more analytical hearing these days mostly from just extensive experience now and that is a key factor to appreciate a medal. The musicians are often very busy and what they're doing and if it is unfamiliar territory it's just going to sound kind of like colliding noise but this band for example and especially this record is a Masterwork of syncopation and the drums locking into these incredible palm-muted guitar riffs... Great stuff catchy and thrash you all at once tears

    Thrash was my escape from the pain of youth.
    'Beneath The Remains' by this band, 'Indians' by Anthrax, and a song that is NEVER reacted to is 'Brain Dead' by Exodus. Don't let the song names put you off listening to them.
    Peace.
