I should also have said - it actually took me by surprise that the questions in the exam are a lot more difficult than those in the Structural Behaviour Quiz (recently renamed from Structural Behaviour Course). I was stuck on at least 5 questions, none of which was the one featured in this video, so while this video shows my discontentment with getting one wrong, I am also satisfied with the overall outcome.
@@valiyaveetil1 I don't think IStructE would like that! Focus on the principles behind solving the easier questions of the Structural Behaviour Quiz and they still apply to the more difficult exam.
Just practicing for this quiz now, loving your videos, they are very helpful. The IStructE website says the pass mark is 70% which would mean 14/20 correct answers, but in the practice you get marked down for incorrect answers so does that mean the pass grade is more like 16/20? I don't want to fail my attempt so need to know if I should keep on revising.

I passed this exam with 100%. Please don't say it is a difficult exam. It just tests your basic knowledge. In my opinion, those who don't get it all right are not fit to practise as a structural engineer. It's such a basic exam.
That's a very short-sighted comment. Perhaps you got lucky and might not have done so well on another sitting? All structural engineers are on a continuous path of lifelong learning...we all must start somewhere and making mistakes is part of that journey.

That is correct - in fact we would recommend aiming higher, around 17 or 18 out of 20!

After seeing the solution, I found t is analogous to the secondary moment generated in a continuous prestressed beam. Congrats!

Work on understanding how the structure deflects and the reactions. If these make sense then the rest of the question is quite trivial.

Completely different exam. Certificate in Structural Behaviour doesn't count towards anything.
