- And now for something completely different, where we leave budget concerns at the door as we examine two of the most attractive, opulent, and prestigious three-row SUVs your money can currently buy.
These two relatively new players land surprisingly close to one other on price. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS is the first model year of the third generation, and this 580 grade with the more powerful engine and options such as premium second-row features, added technology, 22-inch wheels, and Nappa leather upholstery rings up at $133,500 (pricing does not include freight and PDI charges, which at Mercedes are quoted individually by the dealer).
The 2020 BMW X7 was entirely new when it joined the brand's line-up for the 2019 model year. This M50i grade also comes with this nameplate's most powerful engine -- that is, unless you want to drop around $40,000 more for the tuned-up version in the extra-swank Alpina XB7 launching this year -- and with options like the upgraded Bowers & Wilkins sound system, air suspension (which costs extra here, unlike in the GLS), and added safety and comfort features, we land at a price tag of $134,700 ($2,480 freight and PDI is extra).

My friend has GLS and I have X7. I have driven both cars. GLS interior look cool but the materials are not as high quality as BMW. The build quality in BMW x7 is much better than GLS. There's no rattle or weird noises in the x7. But in the MB, there are creaks and rattles. The wood creaks a lot in the GLS... It's not acceptable for how much the car costs. Overall, I went for the X7 because there is a big difference in build quality... IN terms of driving, I can't give it to GLS neither since X7 is much more luxurious feeling than x5, it is not just a bigger x5. For most of my time in the X7 i feel like i'm gliding on ice... so damn smooth. So whatever GLS can do in comfort, the x7 is the same. That aside, in terms of handling, x7 clear winner. In terms of stereo, at stock, 1st level upgrade 2nd level upgrade, music sounds better in x7 no matter what level of stereo you have. And no I am not bmw biased since my last car was a GLE. Trust me, while interior might look cooler in the GLS now, the build quality is not there... And lastly, space. Yes, GLS wins. But in terms of how quiet it is in the car, the x7 is closer to Bentley level than the GLS.

After having a gl 63 and now a x7 m50i, I must say the x7 is a beautiful, elegant car that is great for families and racing!

The X7 looks better, drives better and is more luxurious and cheaper. So its the winner
BMW has my vote.
Not even 2 minutes in and you can already see that the MB interior quality and materials look cheap and plain compared to the BMW.
How? The Gls is more expensive for a reason.

More expensive for a reason? Lol what. That doesn’t make one better than the other. Example the M4 GTS is super over priced, cost more than the M8, but what makes the M4 GTS better than an M8? M8 is faster to 60 and the quarter mile, on the track, more luxurious, more equipment.. (example)
x7m50i is the best

The main category where Merc beats the bimmer is storage. A lot of people will only need the second row for their kids. Families that desperately need a third row will opt for an Odyssey. Lower the third row in the bimmer and you've got plenty of room. So, looking past storage, X7 is a better car imo. Interior looks better. Crystal dial and shifter are stunning. Soft leather. Nicer ambient night interior night lighting imo.

For both models, about the maintenance which one more expensive?
GLS is literally a very nice minivan here, BMW on the other hand looks more like a SUV. Which isn’t much better/different in a nutshell 😊

Why is it that every time I look at a video comparison including a Mercedes it has a dark interior. Mercedes needs to get over these dark Interiors. Even on the dealer lot most vehicles come with dark Interiors. They're boring and a mood killer.

Also, you can get the MB in a lovely hyacinth red while BMW mostly comes in boring colours if you don't like blue
You can get the X7 in a bright, shiny, sparkling pink (or yellow, or green or a mix of them all), if you want to - from the factory. You just have to pay for it...

The X7 M50i isn’t a real M vehicle. It’s an M Sport model. So no, it doesn’t compete with GLS63, which is a true AMG product.
Now if you wanted to compare the GLS63, maybe the Alpina XB7 is a better match, although that model still isn’t a X7M.
I wish they actually got into the 3rd row because x7 is actually better in the the third row than the GLS
The BMW X7 M50i is nicer looking and guys can actually drive it. The GLS looks like a ladies vehicle.
