I love their ankle smart pants for work wear. I actually prefer the smart ankle over the wide leg version (im so petite, i look so drown in fabric when wearing wide leg pants). The tip for the smart ankle pants is to size up so you get a slightly straight/tapered and relaxed silhouette. You might need to take them to a tailor for the waist area but it is so worth the effort.

Great insight and analysis! Considering fabric is such a good part of shopping for pieces that are really going to work in one’s life and endure.
Rayon is a semi-synthetic fabric, made in a lab sort of, but from cellulose from sources such as wood, so there’s a natural fibre element to it. Vintage rayons tend to be better quality (firmer, less wrinkly) than most modern rayons. The Wikipedia article on rayon makes for interesting reading, including comparing it to its cousins viscose and lyocell.

Great Vlog, I'm a big fan of Uniqlo because of their reasonable price point. I try to avoid the synthetic pieces as much as possible. Your recommendations are something I trust because of how much thought and reasoning you use. Certainly would like to try the cotton pieces. Thanks Helen😘

I love the smart ankle pants as a curvier woman. Completely understand where you’re coming from with the material, but as a curvier woman, the elastase blends are actually preferred for slimmer pants otherwise they usually don’t fit

I thrifted a Uniqlo top that has that same issue you mentioned--the collar just doesn't want to lie down properly. Even when I iron it repeatedly, it has a mind of its own!

“MEN’s fabric is a bit better.” IKRRRRRRR it’s so true that it’s stupid. And it’s not only with Uniqlo, it’s also with other brands, even Costco’s and Target’s. So frustrating that most of my shirts I get at men’s section just because of the quality!

Hi, Helen! If you want flowy navy trousers, M&S do one in a linen-viscose blend, with a drawstring and nice thickness of waistband - available in Petite length, too, as you may know. So, so comfy! Of course, not slinky, but certainly drapey and a nice silhouette.

For some reason TH-cam randomly recommended your video to me.. and thank god for that :,)
As someone who’s never bought from uniqlo before you’ve actually inspired me with the items you recommended, and your reviews are really great, you cover some things that no one ever would wich are really practical to know for everyday life so thank you!
And seeing the way you styled them was inspiring too! We’re around the same height so when I saw you in a few things that I would have originally thought would never suit me because of my height I got giddy haha!

This is so useful, I'll save it for my upcoming first trip to Japan 😊. I love the caramel colours of the striped t-shirt, but as a more "full" figured person, I find dropped shoulders unflattering. I always look for a set-in sleeve, like the Sezane Colette top. Although it is so expensive!

I love Uniqlo videos especially since I don’t have one near me for trying things on, and it tends to be hit or miss for me ordering online. I would love to know more about the stores you buy from, what kind of items are best from each and why, the decision making process etc (especially US-accessible ones as there are so many Australian brands we can’t get here!) 😄

  • @theailona
    @theailona 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I really enjoy your videos, Helen! Fabric composition has never been a top requirement for m e, but perhaps I should start to. And I agree with what you said about those blue lounge pants! I always avoid that kind of material no matter the brand, because I know they won't last as long.
I would note that UNIQLO is a Japanese brand. Sizing might be off to Caucasians, but I find they are certainly more favourable to Asians. Fun fact, sizing is different across regions. Depending on the cut, I wear XXS-S here in Australia, but wear XS-M if I purchased them from Asian countries.
Also, I appreciate that they are less into following the major worldwide trends going on. Again because of their root, most of their pieces are Japanese styles, so some might find it hard to style or mix and match. For example, I'm very much into Japanese fashion and most of my wardrobe is Uniqlo. Meanwhile, my sister isn't and although the brand has heaps of basics, she still finds it hard to find something that works for her.
Not all pants are free to tailor, but it's certainly a bonus (and affordable) service! Especially when I'm super petite, just under 150cm (not even 5').
Lastly, even though an item has the same exact name, I find that they can have slight differences year to year, or even season to season! Some may find this as an improvement, while others might not.
That being said, they're still my go-to brand given the quality and price point. I have pieces that are well over 5 years and I don't baby them!

Thank you for the review! Striped longsleeve looks so interesting! The combination of colors and the fit suits you very much)) As for me I really like Uniqlo's base cotton t-shirts - very good fabric for me, smooth and pleasant to the touch and durable (if we will compare brands of mass market)!

I actually went to Uniqlo yesterday and got two things. For reference, I am quite tall and wear a size 14. I bought the sports bra/top version of the tank top you showed. It works well as a bra and is thick but soft. I am not large chested, so I was able to squeeze into a Japanese XL. I might try ordering a larger size when I am back in the States. I have some ladies' cargos that I like and I was trying to decide between another color of those or the men's pair. I tried on the men's XL and they are not too big around the waist, but very oversized in the leg, and you can gather them at the ankle with a drawstring. I love really oversized clothes, so I got the men's pair.

  • @elizabethwalker3002
    @elizabethwalker3002 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I am tall with a pear shape, so I never go for Uniqlo pants, but I ABSOLUTELY go for the merino wool sweaters. Every year I grab a color or two- I have two turtle neck versions, and I've purchased 5 crew neck merino sweaters. Sadly one shrank in the wash, so I handed it on to a friend. Before I found those, I always got the heattech fleece. With any of the sweaters I can layer the heattech base layers, whether the ultra or just regular warmth. They have gotten me through 6 northern Asian and European winters.

My most recent Uniqlo purchases are for the fall/winter season - I bought a black viscose maxi dress with long sleeves (although I think they sell it as midi with 3/4 sleeves, but I’m 5’2, sooo, haha) with is a perfect “improvement” for the cheaper one I have from my local brand, which I loved, but it’s 100% polyester, which I absolutely cannot wear anymore, suffocating! And the other one is flared jeans in this beautiful navi color with contrast-y stitching (yellow) - absolutely love how they fit on me.
Thanks, Helen, your picks are always on point ❤, shame a lot of models of pants from Uniqlo take forever to get to my country, haha

Strong recommendation for the women dry sweat track pants and the men wide-fit pleated pants. The former has a very beautiful shape and look, especially in off white. The latter also has a very good shape and material feels very sturdy; the fact that this pair of pants has strings to tighten the waist area is such a bless for me.

I own both the wide legged cotton pants and the cargo pants you showed and love them both. As a pear shape they are flattering on me. I often find the pants fit better than the womens.

I have 2 pairs of the smart ankle trousers & I quite like them, I bought them in Asia like 6-7 years ago when I started joining the workforce “as an adult”. They’re my go-to trousers for work trips because they don’t crease easily & falls just right on me. However, I was disappointed by the same design that I found here in the Netherlands: it’s a bit more roomy & creases easier. The roomy part I understand, perhaps it’s made to cater to Caucasian physique. What I don’t really understand is the same material composition feels different when worn 🤨 Last time when I went home to see family & friends in Asia, I bought some Uniqlo items because there are different models/designs that I can’t find in Europe & usually they fit me better off-the-rack 😅

I have a few pairs of the Ultra Stretch Soft Pants, but with more fitted(?) ankles instead. I think I bought them in 2018, and they seem to have held up well! They've been my go-to summer/warm weather pants :)

It’s funny because I agree with most of your thoughts except the men’s vs women’s flannels (and button up shirts in general). To me the women’s one is so much more comfortable, both flannels and button ups. I prefer to wear them oversized and untucked and I find that the men’s just looks like I’m wearing someone else’s shirt where’s the women’s one looks like a shirt that’s just bigger and it’s actually more flattering on me. I do prefer the more natural materials that men’s shirts have but I would probably not buy them again. In general I really enjoy wearing clothes from Uniqlo and if you haven’t already I really would recommend them especially if your style is quite simple.
I think this was a great review 😊

Uniqlo is one of my favorite stores! So I feel I know their stuff well enough so I know what works for me and what doesn’t. Their pants of any sort have never fit me properly- they aren’t good for petites and people with hourglass shapes. And their pants are sooooo high waisted, which is just not for me sadly. But their tops are always great and they usually offer basics in slight different variations. Their sizes have increased in size over the years though weirdly lol

    • @littlelady7843

I have the same observation. I used to shop at Uniqlo when I lived in Shanghai. I never found pants or skirts flatters me. They are usually boxy. I am petite but have defined waist and butt. I loved their tops. Especially the fleece jackets. They are closely fitted and look so flattering on me. The tshirts are basic, but always with good quality and fit well.

Great analysis! But I have to say that the wide leg pants look far better on you not cuffed. The cuffing ruins the flow & makes it seem like your legs cut off prematurely which makes you look shorter. Keep the ankle exposure for the slimmer tapered styles.

hello, I know the brand from you, I bought too many items from this brand, I love their basic t-shirts, wide pants, and cord pants but their wool items wear off too easily, I bought 2 Merino wool cardigans, and they are peeling out too much,in1 year they are not wearable :/. I love also tops with bras, they are a life saver :)

I have to say that the ribbed tops are not as good as the ones I bought in 2021 and 2022. They changed the material from cotton to a cotton blend. It’s still good though and I love ‘em.

I have found that the men's clothing at J Crew and Banana Republic is superior in fit, tailoring, and material than the women's clothing.

I love your reviews and watched multiple ones. I noticed something i thought i'd share : all your sentences are stressed the same way which sounds a bit repetitive. It's a shame because your content is not! Hope it helps

Viscose (rayon) is not a true synthetic and wrinkles very easily.

Uniqlo I haven’t found anything I liked since its inception. It is like Gap; basic. I am not fond of basics because I don’t look exotic to balance basic. These items would make me look bland and nondescript.

Uniqlo has had some collab's that are basic, but NOT. I am in Japan now, so I come across Uniqlo in the thrift store a lot (and the price is always cheap, bc its Uniqlo). I thrifted a raincoat that was a collab with Marni, I also thrifted a top that was a collab with Jil Sander. Both pieces are so well-made and the silhouette is very unique. I also thrifted a gingham backpack that was a from a collab with J Anderson.

I need Uniqlo to explain why they use Rayon for their work shirts when they ABSOLUTELY do crease and HORRIBLY. Can they just please give up? I love their shirts and how they look but to buy it just for it to look wrinkly from the get go. No. Just no.

Uniqlo is cheap and bad quality!! It’s a so called “fast fashion”. And it is not kind to environment!!! Stop buying there!!!!
