@@ScoutCrafter Based on research results, I'm getting the sense that Mr. Klanka never married, or if he did it was later in life and that, in what appears to be a likelihood, he didn't have any children. The 1950 Census is the most recent available census record, and he was enumerated as 27 and single in 1950. In 1950, both he and his likewise single elder brother were living with their widowed mother. In 1950 Mr. Klanka was a TV Technician / Engineer at a TV Booster Station, and his brother was a Radio and TV Repairman.... If we assume that Mr. Klanka had no children, then we might conclude that that is why you have his BSA Membership Card today.
Some of the times I am first aware of cuts is when the Wifey tells me I'm bleeding...and then it's usually dried on.

Thanks for the tutorial on levels. I have 19 of them, including a small one that I carry in my pocket almost all the time. Sometimes I use it when I am not certain that a statement is true. I ask, "Are you on the level?" I also use it when someone says, "He's a level-headed person." I respond, "Let's check on that. I'll use my level."
Just one phrase comes to mind: "what kind of maniac only has one level?!"😂
I learned quickly to be careful in the shop with that almost blood poisoning I had restoring one of my first wrenches..
I only have a few levels in my workshop. Large aluminium for building, torpedo for quick small jobs, a schmick antique wooden one that lives in my woodwork box and fools people into thinking I know how to use all the old planes and spoke-shaves as well. For the big jobs I have a string line level, and a roll of clear plastic hose that I can fill up with water as required.
I probably need to up my first aid game, I normally cover everything with electrical tape

I used dad's old three leg bubble balancer ever since I can remember. Every tire we had was balanced on that thing. It was thrown in with a broken $50 tire machine. The air cylinder leaked so dad welded it up. Worked great and saved a bunch of money over the years.

I've used (clean) shop towel and duct tape to temporarily cover a cut. And, yes, IPA stings like a bastard, but you can't beat it as an antiseptic.
I only own a torpedo level and a couple of bubble levels. Us vinyl junkies are very familiar with the bubble levels. I've spent more time than I care to remember tinkering with my turntable's adjustment screws to make sure everything's perfect.

Years ago when I was a kid I was wrestling/roughhousing with some of my buddies when I rolled over on an old bone ( someone gave their dog something to chew on) and that leg got infected. My mom took me over to my grandfathers house and he squeezed that leg for what seemed like an eternity. To this day I remember that incident and how much it hurt. 1960s family medicine. Fortunately I didn't lose the leg. A neighbor asked me to put up a shelf in his daughters room. I took my level with me and did my level best to get that shelf level. It just didn't look right. Over and over again I tried. Finally I realized the ceiling was not straight (a basement room) drove me crazy.

I have my fathers now vintage, craftsman aluminum 18” that I restored. I only use it as a display piece now.
Not noticing a cut is half the trouble. Regularly don’t notice till the mrs sticks her head and says, ‘ you’ve cut your arm again you idiot!’. 😂

That Scouts first aid box is sweet..live the colors... i might have 20+ levels... now that ya got me thinking 😁 when I was leveling that pool table I thought a 6ft would be very helpful. So I need to get one of those.. Good Stuff Sir
Not that many levels only a couple I found at flea markets that were too nice to pass up.
Since history isn’t taught like it used to be people need to remember infections are the second leading cause of death for millions worldwide. That’s why simple soap and water washing is so important for most small wounds along with antiseptics and a proper bandage. As you said, one of the many important teachings in Scouting, experiences I would not trade for anything.
The Lantern light was allot of fun! Ken did great. As far as levels, I only have about 12. One is a Stanley from about 1880. Good show and thanks.
Hi John being an eagle scout I couldn't agree more about scouts. I was always big into first aid and it helped play a role in me being a medic today. I have to say I love the so called electricians bandaid some paper towel and run some electrical tape around it and back to work. Although having a young son, as you know when I thanked you for the awesome video on busy boards when I was struggling with ideas of what to get my son for Christmas, by the way he still loves it and plays with with everyday. I question when he reaches the age to join scouts as its not the same as I remember it was changing when I got out. My nephew joined cub scouts and surprisingly he loves it I wasn't expecting it. The scouts changed last I knew when I was getting out, thankfully I got out before the participating trophies and everyone is a winner mentality, I remember a young scout come to me for advancement in rank that I just couldn't sign off on as they couldn't perform any of the requirements and ran crying to an adult leader apparently and I was told to sign off for them which I refused again and told them they would have to sign off, as that wasn't the scouts I was bought up into you knew and proved proficiency in the skills or you didn't advance. I want to clarify I was never a difficult person I knew people were nervous as I was I would ask if they wanted to review anything before we began, and anytime they made a mistake during testing I would allow them multiple opportunities to correct themselves. I feel I was very lenient and more lenient than those before me, but I wasn't going to participate in the trophies for all that they were becoming as I knew every troop and patrol had to receive awards during camporees and jamboree, whereas being a patrol leader we would take home usually 2-4 awards for skills.
Rob- There are still some fantastic troops out there that still practice real scouting. The key is you might have to travel a little to get to them. It’s good you kept your integrity. 😃👍
@ScoutCrafter the adult leader explained it to me as it was for the scouts mental well being and yes they eventually signed off, which I'm sure became the new loophole why go to your leaders patrol, senior patrol etc when the adults will just sign off and you got rank. I'm not sure how I feel about girl scouts I believe they should have fought to restructure the girl scouts and push for more within their organization to become similar to the boy scouts with camping and outdoor adventures than integrate themselves into the boy scouts.
Great video and appreciate the PSA on first aid. I'm bad about just slapping a band aid on a cut, mostly to keep blood from dripping on my work piece! 🤣🤣I have a vintage J&J first aid kit on the wall filled with new stuff for the accidents. Good stuff on the levels.

Level up. I must have around two dozen in various sizes. Some of the all aluminum torpedo levels, the top and bottom are not ground flat so the level isn't right. I mostly straight edges or squares as I am not building. People use to laugh at me for carrying a couple of bandaides in my wallet. I keep a kit in each vehicle. If i go fishing and hunting away from the vehicle then I carry a pocket one with alcohol wipes. I also keep tubes of antibiotic cream. To many ways you can get cuts and infection. Funny you mention the jungle as the old WW2 training film about aircraft going down in the jungle. Treat infections immediately. I think it was the first war that more didn't die from sickness. Might have been a toss up in WW1. I think everytime I have been in an ER they clean the wound with soap and water before anything.
Many years ago my dad stepped on a broken bottle while wading in the Silvermine river. I think he had the cut stitched up at the ER and went to our family doctor when it was time to have the stitches taken out. The doctor was having a hard time seeing that day so my dad asked him how the tool he was trying to use worked and the proceeded to take his own stitches out. My dad asked how much he owed and the doctor said get out, all I did was watch.

Hi Scout, you don’t have to be a safety nanny to look after yourself in the shop. We don’t see Isopropyl alcohol much here in Australia, Betadine, pronounced “Betadeen” is the go to anti infection fluid. It’s watered down iodine (dark red) and comes in all sorts of forms like liquid, spray bottle, wipes and dropper bottles. You can even get Betadine throat gargle. There is a lot of confusion here about isopropyl alcohol as a lot of Aussies think it’s the same as our Methylated Spirits but it’s not. It’s actually what the US calls denatured ethanol which is used everywhere here from cleaning and disinfecting, to industrial uses. Most of us use it in the workshop as the next up from water for cleaning, but before thinners. It comes in 500ml / 17 Oz bottles to 205 litres drums and is nearly always 100% neat.
I have some very nice spirit levels too, but like you I hardly ever use them. Cheers, Stuart 🇦🇺
Stuart- As a young man when I wanted to get tan I would mix Baby oil and iodine together and apply it liberally. The coating made you appear darker and the sun would cook you faster! 🫣😂👍

Levels,I have a bunch, new and antique, even have a water level, never wrong, unless it’s frozen, 😊. First aide,well, I let it bleed out some, then wash with soap and hot water, I use either hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, always make sure my tetanus is up to date also. I try to keep a small impromptu first aid kit in my tote as part of my EDC. In the old days it was throw a band-aid on it and move on. Putting some electrical or duct tape on so it doesn't fall off!
I probably have 10 levels at work but it's hard to level anything in our shop because all the floors are so far off. Every project we build needs to be shimmed and levelled as close as we can get it.
You started a bad thing last week, John with the "How many screwdrivers do you have?" non-challenge challenge. I thought maybe I had a problem and had way too many but some of our friends have totally out done themselves. I might have a few hundred screwdrivers in various forms. Hammers and pliers keep increasing in number too.

I use a small level on a wall clock, that has a pendulum. I remember a movie, that I saw as a kid, The Pit and The Pendulum, with Vincent Price. Accuracy is key!
Neosporin is what I use for cuts.

Hi John, I just couldn’t stop myself I had to make a film with my level collection in them and there is a little surprise on the score of the first-aid. At the end of the film. It is amazing how we can have a connection together without being even close to each other, from one end of the globe to the other, there’s something weird going on here

I always figure after spending years walking on I-Beams without any safety harness and using Old Farm Tractors and other Old Farm Equipment out at Our Farm and even all the miles spent riding a Motorcycle I'll probably die doing something mundane like slipping on the Kitchen Floor. I keep a spray bottle of Alcohol in my Shop and also in the Kitchen.......A quick count down in the shop and I found 10 levels but I'm sure there's a few more small ones hanging around or buried in drawers (Does The Level APP on My Phone Count?).........My Old Work Partner had an Uncle that made his living making Levels out of his garage, back in the day when people really did have "Garage Businesses".

I have six levels of various lengths. I never realized that you should check the level itself for accuracy. I just assumed they were accurate from the beginning. First useful lesson of the new year for me from SC.
Thanks John, as always you trigger so many memories, I did light a lantern for new year but didn't have the opportunity to share it, but it always feels right !
I still have me boy scout first aid box and although I'm not good with medical things I do follow basic rules, such as keeping a wound clean - my family dispair as I routinely remove any "flappy" skin and douse everything in alcohol and disinfectant before dressing any wound ! I had the opportunity to purchase some good practical first Aird kits in a zippy a few years back at a knock down price and bought a dozen and distributed them to the wider family. I don't suppose they appreciated it at the time but you never know when you may need some sterile absorbent lint and a triangular bandage !
I was alerted to CCS via Magdad and his Screwdriver overview after your video, Levels is an easier answer for me, I think I have eight to so, unlike many of my tools my first was a good'un a 3ft Rabone c1985 I've added various workaday Stanleys but recently added a couple of nice Milwaukees.
Milwaukee is really making nice stuff now. 😃👍
About 30+, carpenter 2', 4', 8', bubble, laser, water, torpedo, line, surveyor, on tape measures, on drills, ect.!
Great video 👍 Great information on first aid 🩹 ⛑ and getting us level with levels 😂👍. What a fantastic idea With the sports tape to make a bandaid 🩹 when you don’t have any on hand . I keep alcohol and hydrogen peroxide on hand but mostly alcohol to clean cuts and scrapes. I like seeing your vibrant colored Boy Scouts First Aid ⛑ kit , looks pretty cool 👍. Thanks for leveling us up on levels 😂👍. This was great information and demonstration on different types of levels we may run into. You have a pretty nice collection. I think I may have around 20 or so. I have a couple of vintage plug 🔌 in drills that have built in levels so you can level your drill so it drills in straight into your project . I have 3 or 4 carpenters level. After I purchased my metal lathe, I had to get a machinist level so I could level the lathe. The more accurate the level, the longer it takes to get something level. Tom Liptons level is REALLY accurate. I have seen others using the same level, e.g., Keith Rucker. Wow, you can almost breathe too hard on that model and see the bubble move.
In addition to cleaning a cut I also apply Neosporin or equivalent on the bandaid. This helps to keep the cut clean and moist so it heals without creating a scab. Like you, I go through a LOT of bandaids.

In the flooring business and we use them all the time, though lasers are more wide stream now. I have a set of straightedges from marshalltown with a bubble level built into them. Very nice! Hard to keep clean when your pouring a floor though. But better than keeping a 2 ft level in your concrete boots. I use Sands levels for small pours. Very nice, high quality and I’m the only person to touch them. Went quality a few years back over the brands.

I’m a nurse. I get cuts all the time. Briers, sharp things, not knowing where my feet are I bang into stuff with my shins. I have the philosophy that all bleeding stops… eventually. 😅😅
Back in the day we’d use Witch Hazel and Macuricone, with the stick in the little bottle. The Witch Hazel would cause white stuff to come out of the cut - so you k ew it was working. Burned like a mother.
The Boy Scout first aid box is beautiful. Love the retro styling. I bought a modern reproduction of yours at the trading post at one of the summer camps I attended as leader in my son’s troop. The Scouting program was once the best activity that boys (and their dads) could be involved in. Sadly, I feel Scouting has lost its way, to the detriment of the boys and our country. @Eagle48 I offer you a challenge ... assume you are an Eagle Scout ... review your Eagle pledge to make Scouting better. If a Troop has lost it way than help it to find the path. I've been involved now with Scouts in my County for 10 years. We have a Troop of 45 boys. One of the end of career statement on a Marine's fit report was the block - 'would you serve in combat with this Marine.' I would not hesitate to serve in combat with any of my 45 boys but I have 'invested' my personal time (Jn 15:13) into the training of these Scouts. Scouting will be what we make it and our Country needs leaders that adhere to the Scout Oath and Law. Semper Fi

I’m not an Eagle Scout. @Eagle48 is the name I chose to honor a person I admired very much.
My son earned his Eagle badge in 2005, so I stepped away from scout leadership a couple of years later after serving for 15 years. I also believe that the success and effectiveness of the program depends on the troop leadership. Their motivation, vision, knowledge and living by the principles of the Scout Oath and Law are critical to achieving Lord Baden Powell’s mission; to help build boys into fine young men. The Scouts in our troop have not disappointed. We have many who serve and have served with distinction in the Marine Corps., the Army and the Navy. Many as officers. One of our leaders gave his life in Afghanistan. Others are very successful in their chosen professions. My issue with Scouting is at the National policy making level of Scouting. The program didn’t need “ fixing”. Obviously , you’re doing the right things at the troop level, and I’m encouraged that your troop is thriving. Many are not, due to fallout from questionable decisions made at the top. I wish you and your troop all the best. I also want to thank you for your service to Scouting and our country.

The Empire level that has all the lines to one side is a grading level used for installing gravity pipes (steam and sewer). Being a plumber I have several of them from torpedo size up to 4 feet. I also have a bunch of others in varying lengths. i just picked up a Stanley no. 264 aluminum torpedo last weekend .
Patrick I’m always amazed at how slight plumbing pitches are. You would think you want steeper angles! 😂👍
If it is too steep, the liquid will flow faster than the solids and you get a build up of solids creating a clog.@@ScoutCrafter

Hello John, I enjoyed today's video, I concur with the idea of having a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol at hand to clean your skin with. One thing I have heard is that 70% is better at killing microbes than 90% because of the fact that it stays on your skin slightly longer without evaporating. I didn't watch Mondays' video on Monday as I didn't have the time; but instead watched it before this video. This is relevant because I actually also have the demagnetizer and was surprised to see it on your channel. It is the same style, but I forget if it is the same brand. I knew about its demagnetizing properties, but didn't know about its remagnetizing properties. I got mine at an antique shop and w/o its box, and possibly an unoriginal, but old style incandescent lightbulb. As always, take care.
Noah- You’re right- They say 70% is better for germ prevention! However I use 91 because I want it drying fast for tool use and stuff. I can’t believe you have a demagnetizer!!! You’ve got some eye for antiques! 😃👍
I actually don’t carry bandaids so much anymore, I love “veterinarian wrap” or “co-ban” cohesive bandage wrap. Great stuff and it doesn’t stick to hair for us fuzzy guys

A surveyor told me put a string line level closest to where the line is tied to get accurate reading . string lines can be tight but always have a dip in the middle .
I've checked how level levels were by filling a sink (or tub) with about an inch of water, then carefully floating a cookie sheet on the water. You know the cookie sheet is level, so when you put a level on the cookie sheet, you can check the bubble. ... btw ... I like your approach better!
Last count 6 levels assorted types, 157 screwdrivers, 100+ tips. Is this where the phrase;
"Do your level best" comes from? Wash GOOD! Dry, Triple antibiotic gel, gauze, tape. Pray there wasn't any real bad KILLER pathogens around.😲 lm very careful. HATE cuts.❤😊
Im retired from the utility that supplies you (CE) in the field. Our makeshift bandaid was a paper towel and electrical tape😅 it worked fine. As a scout and scout leaderyou are spot on with the life skills learned. Nice video. And I think I have at least 30 levels. What kinda nut doesn't?😅😅

Bleeding is like engine oil. It,ll stop when it all runs out😢 you can get apps for your phone for levels. Technology.
Iodine is my go to antiseptic... It stings a bit, but wounds heal faster with it. Great for mosquito/ insect bites

U have two parts a bandage and a dressing. The dressing goes on the wound and the bandage holds the dressing in place. As a retired ff/medic and a first aid instructor that's the first thing you learn.

90% of the time if I get cut i stop for a minute and put super glue on it then it dries and im back to business
I remember years ago super-gluing my two fingers together! I was away from the shop and didn’t have Acetone with me. 😂👍
Plasters ( band aid ) are useless in England, they never fit if they do they fall off . I use electrical tape.
They make a “fabric” band aid, it is far superior to regular ones. 😃👍

I had infection in my ring finger from a piece of glass from work had to have surgery to remove the infection from finger and hand
I saw a guy on TH-cam who had an elderly cat, he went to pet it and it got startled and bit him. A few days later his hand blew up to twice the size and he had to get surgery. That scared the bejesus out of me! 🫣😂👍
