Also there is literally a trailer where person who somewhat resembles Jackie dies in a Delamain car after the Heist . And it released one year prior Keanu reveal and it's the first trailer in years. So at maximum they changed the model for Johnny and not like rewrite the whole story from the scratch thing...

V obviously dies in that one but Johnny basically takes the control of the body. The lore past that is that is Johnny alters V's appearance to look like himself or if its Valerie he changes her into a guy.
It's hilarious how these two are the closest to a realistic friendship. V and Johnny don't always get along, don't always agree, repeatedly tease/mock/troll each other.... But when it's needed they put their heads together and get shit done.
480 hours in. This is the stuff of legends. All I can say is... I am glad I played the entire game and story on launch week with no spoilers. I am 70% through the game again, and already want to go back to the beginning to re-live it all.

It's not that they're not done well. It's that you don't get enough time with them to really care for some of them. For example, Jackie. You know him for an entirety of 30-40mins in the game. That's way too little time to connect with a character. It's supposed to be a role playing game. But, V already knows so many people and characters from even before the story starts that it feels like you're just peeking into the life of someone else. At least that's how I feel. You might feel different and others might have a completely different take.
