    100k subs, Congratulations! I like this series but you seemed a bit rushed on this one. Put down the 4th Redbull. Nice to see Yanmar using Yamaha parts on their outboards. Seriously though, I'd really like to see a tour of that James Wharram Tiki 38 at :18. Bobby, I really enjoy all of your hard work on the vlogs and your new Flying Doodles. Its great entertainment!

    What's that constant knocking noise? Dagger boards banging in their cassettes? Would drive me nuts.

    • @bobmott8646
      @bobmott8646 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Sherlock. Or more like a Dr Watson, Sherlock’s not too bright sidekick. Have another look, but this time look up at the unsecured boom which is causing the noise. I would bet you have no multihull experience, are part blind and past your use-by date when it comes to observing things. Booms rattle on monohulls as well. Contact Alan Carwardine, the man who designed the daggerboard cassettes which make zero noise, and see how he reacts to your ill-informed comment. The owner.

    • @joeblow1942

      bob mott Beautiful boat! I couldn’t see evidence of daggerboards on the deck so does she have daggerboards or centerboards?

    • @bobmott8646
      @bobmott8646 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joeblow1942 They are in a special cassette and run up and down in that casette incased in teflon shaped sliders. The top slider bottoms out on the bottom slider which is fixed to the hull at the daggerboard exit point. This system doesnt require a hull length daggerboard that protrudes out of the deck. In a up position it is flush. In a down position there is a gap from the deck down to the top of the daggerboard. It is also very strong - we have tested it inadvertently - hit a rock standing well out from a island and launched into the air when we hit. Daggerboard had severe damage - hull at the exit point no damage , water intrusion zero. The case goes thru a internal fresh water tank and also buts up to the main bulkhead just aft of the mast. Very strong and good watertight integrity.

    • @joeblow1942
      @joeblow1942 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bob mott Sounds like your boat has a lot of really well thought out details. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Does the trailing edge of the bottom of the cassette have foam to absorb the shock from impact kinda like a Newick crash box?

    • @bobmott8646
      @bobmott8646 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joeblow1942 The Teflon inserts are pretty thick and take the smack when the board hits anything. Been 9 years since we fitted them. They are epoxy glassed in to a formed cavity so actually independent. We have hit a couple of times cutting corners racing but that one time when Nina got launched in the air and one crew member went from the cockpit into the galley and managed to grab the galley shelf and not fall was the biggest test. The whole boats weight was in the impact and we were doing around 6-8 knots close hauled. That hit did not effect the cassette or the hull integrity. Would not like to do it again. The boards are made to shear off at a point - lower section is sacrificial so they go before anything else does. Rudders bottom section also sacrificial as well. Shaft does not go to the bottom of the rudders

      There are added vents working like scoops at the front that feed air to the front singles and the 2 x doubles 100% of the time. Lots of hatches and ports for the tropics and you can leave the toilet side port open in most weather to promote airflow. Composite shell is also good insulation. Owner

      Motors not a problem over the last 9 years of use. She is a sailing cat and does that very well. She is also a dry boat even in rough weather. Roll back saloon roof works well for added ventilation and its marine grade canvas on a stainless set of frames connect to headsail car track with headsail cars on it for sliders

    • @niceguy2171
      @niceguy2171 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bobmott8646 she's a nice light sailor, and those 9.9's x 2 should be fine to move her when it needs to. Many people think you need more power..or even oversize motors-to-boat ratio, so don't understand how people who haven't been on her can criticize her for that. Think she's a fine design, and LOVE the ventilation designs built into her..something SO many boats fail at. As a multiple sail boats owner in the past, that cannot be overstated.

    • @bobmott8646
      @bobmott8646 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@niceguy2171 Spent some time getting lots of ventilation in. She also has those two garbage bins built in and I use standard dry bags in the bins. When full you can roll the top sealed and take it ashore with no leaks and no smells. I co design the cat and we built it here in Phuket. The original cat was built way back in the 80s and was a open bridgedeck. They took it to antartica with dry suits. Nina's out on a 10 day charter now with 6 people aboard

    • @niceguy2171
      @niceguy2171 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bobmott8646 , also love those coolers/wet wells you put in back by the garbage bin places, which was inspired btw, as people don't think about things like that, but it greatly enhances your time on a boat. And you can tell she has a lot of thought and practicality built into her, and that makes such a difference. Wise use of space and the thought that goes into it is so often overlooked for "aesthetics". Would definitely be interested in her if I was looking for that size of boat in that part of the world right now, and will mention her to a couple of friends. But unfortunately I'm looking to reduce boats right now, not add to mine. Would have loved to spend some time on her though..and hope one of my friends is interested.
