Love it! My first car was given to me by my great uncle in 1983. It was his 20,000 mile 1975 light blue Buick Century 4 door. What a great car to learn how to drive in. Fit many people in that thing as well! The entire time I had it, I was wishing it was a 2 door. I spray painted black stripes down the sides where the front fenders run into the doors. It went to my younger brother after I beat it senseless for 3 years~

Very cool. Back in the mid 80s my friend's father bought him a 1975 pace car. At that time it was 10 years old and had been beat on. It was in pretty rough shape but, the interesting thing is, we live in Albuquerque and Bobby Unser won Indy in 75 with a pace car being part of the prize package. The guy my friend's father bought it from said it had belonged to Bobby Unser but had nothing to prove it.
We ran into Jr. at the video store and he looked at it. He couldn't shed any light on the issue but he did say "that's a very red white and blue car".
It did have the 350 in it so it was not the actual pace car but it was possibly the car given out as part of the winner's prize package. We were never able to verify anything so that's a big maybe.
My friend hated the car, he didn't like the red white and blue, especially after Jr's comment but I have fond memories of that car. We beat on it for a few years in HS and made some memories. All I can say is if someone, somewhere, is restoring it, my bad, sorry about the right side T top. Turns out you can't remove it on the highway. Hope you can find another.

I spotted one just like this here in Ontario, Canada a couple of days ago. I knew it was a rare sight immediately and was so excited to follow behind and alongside it for a bit. It looked great cruising down the road proudly sporting its red and blue decals on the clean white finish. Curiously, it also had an Indianapolis 500 decal (black and white outline of a tire with wings logo) between the back window and the small side window. I don't see it on the one in this video and can only guess as to the reasons why there is this slight difference. The owner must be just as proud as the Buick hawk and has every right to be for keeping that beauty running and driving for others to enjoy.

I love cars like this. My dad had a 75 and 77 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser wagon for his company cars. The midsized GM platform was a nice driving car and the 2 door models had some really great styling. My 77 Y82 special edition had the sticker from Hurst. I bought a 76 Cutlass as a beater and it was a Hurst Hatch roof car someone stuff a 71 Buick 455 into. This Buick is so cool. It gives people a look back at what these cars were really like. I love the low mile examples. Keep showing cars like this Lou. Thanks.

If I found it, I wouldn’t have the funds to purchase it anyway. Buick has a very colorful racing history, starting from the early days, and especially at Indy. Thanks, Lou for tracking down the President of our club, and doing the story on this very rare car.

Really cool! Cars may not have been "the same" in the '70's (lower power, styling, etc.) but they could still be pretty nice in some cases. Just about any car that served as a pace car could look pretty good with the pace car treatment. Just look at the Oldsmobile pace cars. They all looked good in my opinion. This Buick is nice, too. And only 3,000 miles! Wow!

It sure sounds like a Buick, I had a 75 Buick Electra w/50k original back in 1986 and when you started it, it sounded just like that did. I regret letting jiffy lube do an oil change on it because a week following the engine dropped a rod.

Time warp condition, impressive in every respect, but original tyres on cars this old - despite their rarity - belong on the garage wall, not on the car. Went to the Detroit Auto Show that year and everyone had some type of special bicentennial models. All the Buick handouts were with that 'Free Spirit' logo. I think I still have one. The '76 Century pace car had a turbo V6. A little tweaking and you could turn that into a real fire breather.
These didn't sell well due to being Buick Centurys and it being 1975 when everyone knew all they were getting was some fancy sticker package. Buick was trying to shed their 'little old lady car' stigma.

I have a good story about Indy pace cars. My old man one year had to wake up an entire assembly plant to get a new exhaust put on the pace car for the Indy 500. Somebody messed it up and it was all hand-made custom parts which had to be hand made custom at 2 am on the day of the race.

I'd watch a video on 8 track cleanup before sticking a tape in an old player like that. Techmoan might have something on that. Great channel for audio too. Some of the tape disintegrate on the inside and need a cleanup or a spring foam pad replacement.

I owned a 1973 Buick Century! No question, it was a nice driving, smooth riding car! I even pulled a 21' Terry Travel trailer with it; albeit I had to add an easy lift hitch and all the rest of the goodies to make it work. This was back in the days when they choked a 350cu V8 with pollution crap, it produced a whopping 150hp! But what really ticked me off about this car, is that it was a rust bucket! Around the back window, the ventilation slots in the hood - I couldn't keep up with it. All in all, not my favorite car!

Rare car, not much in the way of options, besides the roof and tape deck, 3200 miles is a beautiful thing, I remember those scars, Chevy made one too, w the red white and blue theme, it was an Impala, Bicentennial edition, Cadillac had a Bicentennial Eldorado too, We were proud to be American, we had laws that protected the working man back then, not the criminal, you fooled around w a cop, you got your head cracked open, rightfully so, it was a great time in America

Love the 73’ Grand Prix. I had a triple black one in 76’. Well it was my Dad’s but I drove it anytime I wanted. Also very smooth. Nothing against Buick but to drive the GP was smoother than the Buick Regal Not probably it was smoother.

the Kojak mobile with "hurst" installed t-tops. a mid-seventies gm mobile with a 350 c.i. automatic? GR70-15 goodyears with custom stainless steel styling MIGHT be worth more that this boulevard boat. 2900 miles. pull the smog pump (pcv valve,) etc., and install it into a car worth restoration. who loves ya', baby?

So sad. So embarrassing. So shameful. The Dark Age of automobiling for the enthusiast. The worst part is that it took DECADES to reclaim what automakers robbed us of. Now my 53 year old self has no business being in a 700hp Demon. The Demon I remember from this Bicentennial era Buick was a Duster variant with a 225ci slant 6. Thank goodness 60's musclecars were still affordable when I turned 16 in '81. My cherry '69 Acapulco blue on black 351c Mach 1 set me back a cool $2750. With hi back buckets and console. I bought it from a divorced stewardess that lived in our neighborhood. (Yes, it was an automatic.)
Make no mistake, the owner of this mint example of the nadir of performance automobiles should be proud. It is well preserved. It just makes me cringe to recall what they needlessly denied us of.

I'm 51 and I remember being able to pick up a decent late 60s/early70s muscle car for around $2500 when I was in high school. $5000 would get one in awesome shape. My first nice car in high school was a 1972 Satellite Sebring Plus Gt (same body shape as the 72 Roadrunner) with a mediocre but reliable 318 in it. It was in great shape, but the best part was my uncle gave it to me. He didn't have room for it in his collection and it was the least collectable one. He had GTX Furies and all kinds of hemi powered mopars. I sold it to my dad's best friend and he restored it about 20 years ago. It's worth $20,000 now.
