I live in nor’eastern Ohio and I can confirm. I love when other outdoorsman find out that you don’t need to carry water here, the water is nearly drinkable as it is. Find a nice marsh with a small water fall, rocky moss and you can actually drink the water right from your hand.
Fire, shelter, water... 3 hrs to die of exposure, 3 days to die of dehydration. Good stuff, love to see others prepared. Cheers
Fellow north eastern Ohioan myself. I appreciate your clearly defined parameters. There is always much to say on the subject of Bugout bags. And much to say about bugging out or relocating to a better position. I have many thoughts on your bag. As far as being a very minimalist and obviously lightweight bag, you have done well. I do have some tips that maybe you can think about.
1. Attach your tourniquet to the outside of your bag. Seconds count. Attach so that you can remove it one handed using either hand.
2. I would suggest an alternative to the ziploc bag for water procurement and processing. Try a grayl geo press or ultra press. The plastic bag just won’t hold up to any rough activity or possible punctures while in your bag. With a grayl you won’t have to wait for chemicals to work. And you can carry water with you. Only hydrating occasionally in mid summer with high humidity ( north east Ohio can be brutal at times) means arriving at your destination allready dehydrated.
3.I would give some serious thought into making a summer bob, and a winter bob. I understand your bol is only 15 miles away. But if your bugging out, the situation is obviously dire and that 15 miles may take you substantially longer than what you think or plan for. A poncho in neo winter will not be sufficient unless you are trained in survival.
4. I recommend carrying some way to make fire, multiple ways…

@@offgridsimplicity appreciate your response, it’s nice to have conversations that are productive and important. We all do things our own way, but learning how and why someone else does it is crucial to expanding our knowledge and skill set.
Maybe 🤔 add a lighter, a compass 🧭, a flashlight 🔦 or headlamp, and a notebook 📓 and pen or pencil ✏️.
Now that you mention it, seeing a Mogadishu version of a GHB/BOB would be interesting
I really want to see someone test or walk with their gear during the upcoming blizzard-like conditions here in the Midwest on Thursday/Friday though. Now *that* would be something to see. ❄️ 🌨️
The idea of carrying a little cash with you is an excellent idea.! You may be able to persuade someone to give you a ride or do a favor.

I'm glad you state the disclaimer that this may not work for everyone. Not a lot of insurance with some of your choices. Wet feet can be a sure killer. There is a way to sit against a tree without getting your feet wet. Tons of videos showing this military technique. You didn't show water purification methods....you did mention them though. I never consider tourniquet optional....especially when you carry a firearm, want to help others that you mentioned, and a non-permissive environment. I like the minimalist approach.
@@offgridsimplicity I was a graduate of afew US military survival schools. Most of us would approach this using the monicur...Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I attended a civilian school...well known survival instructor... we were only allowed a knife. Cordage,clothing ,chow, etc had to be made/procured.

Macht alles Sinn, wenn man mit leichten Gepäck und auf der angegeben Distanz unterwegs ist. Vermisst habe ich ein Messer, aber dass hat man ja sowie immer einstecken.

While you can travel 15 miles in under 4 hours you would be moving at a pretty fast walk with no breaks or unexpexted problems
Paracord makes a terrible trip wire, it stretches too much and is too visible. I have never heard of 22 mag pistol rounds. And as far as wet feet not being life threatening, you are very wrong. Those 2 feet are what get you from point a to point b and if you have blisters from wet feet and boots you are going to be in a world of hurt let alone if they are cold or frozen. Take care of your feet !
