Hi Blou, yes I did. I adapted the original 'stand off guide' that came with the torch. I then made another modification to it so instead of having the 2 fingers for sensing the material, I welded the fingers to a flat washer (which has a hole in the centre that's big enough to clear the torch tip. Thank you for sharing your experience. Newbie question here: am I right to assume that when cutting with the plasma torch, there is no lateral force on the handle? The reason I ask this question is that your stepper motors looks very big for the task ( NEMA 32 ?).
Hi Dany, yes, the torch operates approx. 1.5mm above the material being cut. The only time my torch contacts the metal, is when the torch touches off, telling the software where the torch is, in relation to the material (called ohmic sensing). I'm using NEMA23 motors, rated at 4.2A and 420 inch ounce torque....which are plenty strong enough to drive the gantry around my table.

Hi William, I bought the 2 pair shielded cable online (eBay....7 strand, 0.4mm conductors....this is for the field devices like the stepper motors and homing proximity switches). The internal cabinet wiring from the controller card to the stepper driver units and from the stepper driver units to the aviation plugs in the side of the electrical cabinet (the output to the stepper motors) was all 6 core trailer cable. Just strip off the outer protective sheath and you have 6 cores with different coloured insulation, making it easier than buying 6 rolls of different coloured wires. The shielded cable only has to carry the stepper motor current...in my case, that's 4.2 amps. The internal wiring is probably only carrying milliamps. Hope this helps. Hi Don, I've never had any issues with the stepper motors, or losing steps. It's important to set the steps correctly, to suit the 'distance per rev' of the stepper motors.
Hi Kerry, not sure what gauge wire I used, but I can tell you the shielded cable was rated at 10A and the internal wiring in the enclosure was 7 core trailer cable, as the maximum current is only 4.2A for the stepper motors. Hi Vince, I have created a series of wiring diagrams for each part of the system....power supplies, controller card to stepper drivers, stepper drivers to the stepper motors, homing switches, etc. Are you building your own plasma cutting table and if so, are you using the MyPlasm CNC controller?? Hey Rusty.. I set up my electronics on the workbench as you did but when I run the software Y1 and Y2 don’t always move the same way. In fact, there are times when Y1 will move and Y2 does not. I can’t imagine that this would be good if that happened with things hooked up. Have you heard of this one? Thanks

If you google or check out ebay for this: SHIELDED 4 CORE STEPPER MOTOR CABLE - 7/0.40 Ideally the cable will be 4 core with different colours, rather than 2 pair white and black....the coloured cores make it easier when drawing up a wiring diagram.
