What an epic July you've got lined up, John! I'm looking forward to the launch party this Friday very much. I'm also keen to find out what we make of Of Darkness and Light. Finally, you were definitely on your A-Game during the Return to Edan discussion!
Sundayyyyy Weekly Readerrrrrrrr! I am SO glad Best Served Cold won. You're gonna love it. Of Darkness and Light reads very, very quick - so you'll blast through that way quicker than it looks. Love these episodes. Makes my Sunday! Now going to watch House of the Dragon since neither you nor the Boy Wonder flew a dragon in this episode.
Best served cold is my favorite Abercrombie - not something most people say but I loved it. I remember reading it last year sitting on my deck during the summer nights!
I love how much you love Oathbringer, finally someone who is with me on this hype train!! And so glad Best Served Cold won, I hope you have a blast with it!! Can't wait for the celebration livestream Friday, even if I will have to watch the replay (damn timezones!!). I just started my reread of book 3 (simply because I wanted to), and I have fallen in love with the series all over again 🤩🤩
I love Oathbringer, it’s fantastic and I think I would enjoy it even more because I’ve just been through a little bit more life since I last read it. I ended up buying Tainted Cup and Parable of the Sower this week and finished Cloud Atlas. Cloud Atlas was amazing, brilliant, and I think it went over my head like a graceful dove. I am very happy that you got Best Served Cold as the Patreon pick because I know you have been excited for it. Now that my rambling is over, I bid thee have a great day/week.
Have an amazing week as well. No way u won’t u just picked some awesome books. So glad u enjoyed Cliud Atlas. When the ending hit and everything ties to get and opened up it was such a special moment for me.
A fine demonstration of how efficiently one can carelessly knock over one's beverage with that bookstand. In another context, we might call that a poor sales job, but I think your viewers probably know you well enough to say, "Well, obviously, I'm going to pay more attention than John!"
A bondsmith tattoo let’s goooooooooooooo. Dalinar is a fav of mine too - his climactic moment in Oathbringer is one of my favorite moments in fantasy. You can’t have my pain 💪
Finished Boy's Life this week, and I believe it just became my favorite book of all time. Every sentence, word, paragraph was just pure perfection. Damn if I haven't sat around as an older man staring at the sky, wondering where the magic has gone?
I've only read The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, and that was three years ago. I loved both books and I'm rereading Way of Kings right now. I'm beyond excited to finally read Oathbringer soon because I LOVE Dalinar! He was my favorite character since the Way of Kings; glad to hear it is amazing!
I knew you were going to finish Oathbringer before me haha. I think I was on 70% when you started. Also 75 pages into The Vanished Birds which I will finish before watching the discussion video, which I am looking forward to!
Hurray for Best Served Cold. This week I finished: *Historical-Fantasy* All The Seas of The World / Guy Gavriel Kay - Very good, but compared to A Brightness Long Ago and Children of Earth & Sky it is underwhelming. Nadia's storyline is very good but my favourite parts were the tie-ins and cameos to his other novels in this shared universe. I'm in Belfast for a couple of days so I doubt I'll be getting much read but as for what I'm currently reading: *Historical-Fantasy* The Last Light of the Sun / Guy Gavriel Kay - A 3rd of the way through and its really good so far. Its one of his more overlooked ones. If you like vikings in Saxon England give it a go. Other than Tigana its had the most magic out of anything he's put in his other standalones I've read. Only thing I've been playing lately has been The Last of Us Part 2, I'm not loving it. I think the structure and pacing is quite poor. Gameplay wise its leaps and bounds ahead of the first game, the character work is good I don't have any complaints there but I'm 16hrs in and I don't feel like I'm anywhere near done. I've an issue with the pacing of a lot of Naughty Dog games but this is ridiculous. I'm not a fan of musicals, but Grease is alright.
I agree pacing and narrative structure can get wonky in games. I was there for the story not the thumb twitching so I find I am not missing gaming with upping my reading.
