  • The Trump Indictments with Melissa Murray, Andrew Weissmann, and Lawrence O’Donnell
For the first time in American history a former President, Donald Trump, is the subject of a series of explosive charges across four cases: the January 6th case and the classified documents case both brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith; the election interference case in Georgia and the “hush money” case in New York.
NYU law Professors and MSNBC contributors Melissa Murray, who has written for the New York Times and the Washington Post, and Andrew Weissmann, who was former lead prosecutor for Special Counsel Robert Mueller, are joined by Lawrence O’Donnell, host of The Last Word on MSNBC, who was formerly an Emmy Award-winning executive producer and writer for The West Wing to discuss Weissmann’s and Murray’s new book The Trump Indictments which is an indispensable record of a democracy at the crossroads and a handbook for anyone following the trials in 2024.
Recorded March 6, 2024 at 92nd Street Y, New York.

I needed to see this on this morning. My favorite blooming cactus is in death throes (some plants consume themselves when they reach reproductive nirvana) my very old aunt passed away, my great grand-daughter miscarried in Germany, I am out of coffee, and the wheel fell off my walker and I cannot find my metric wrenches to repair it. American model? Have you visitied factory farms, kill floors, hatcheries where make chicks are ground alive as they are of no use to this industry. Ever seen the slaughterhouse grounds and trucks lined up with terrified animals awaiting their last experience with humankind, so Americans can eat 11 billion farmed animals annually, which is part of why the disease care system costs $4.3 trillion annually. Model? America was born off violence, built itself an empire off violence, and it comes full circle in how the trump infestation wants to protect all that is vulgar but normalized. We in the animal rights movement see a very different side of this society, a side media protects to our peril.

      Biden Lies:
He said he was going to unite America; He accused his Border Patrol Agents of whipping Illegals crossing border. How he presented his uncle with the Purple Heart. Said he was at the top of his class. The Mandela story, the Corn Pop Story, the trucker story, the Puerto Rican community story, the Jewish community story, the Black community story, the College story said he ranked in the top of his class….he was 76th out of 85, the Law School story, the Scholarship story, the Outstanding Student story and the one where his grandfather died in the same hospital two weeks before the one he was born in. He said several police officers were killed by demonstrators during the J6 riots! Lied about sharing classified documents. Lied when he said none were labeled classified. Lied when he said that they were all locked in a metal filing cabinet! He said at least 16 times, he never talked to his son about his business dealings. He said 350,000,000 vaccinated in the U.S. (pop. Is now 334,000,000).

Just purchased my copy of "The Trump Indictments". Today, an Attorney representing Donald Trump in the GA. R.I.C.O. case, is arguing on his behalf. Both Melissa and Andrew's text, helped me understand the premise of the indictments, as well as the counts, against Trump, and other Defendants. But I've watched these two skilled MSNBC legal Specialists on what often appears a moment's notice at all hours of the night here in Texas, dissect these court cases, filtering legalize, with potential to boogle, the non-legal Viewers, mind. I am a retired Paralegal, and truly appreciate this labor of love, and expertise. The "Trump Indictments" is a must read for any law student, considering this profession. Yes, law is about understanding statutes, the constitution, and precedent. But more importantly, proper execution of judicial procedure and formality even with broad informed knowledge of law, is the foundation upon which, court cases are won, and often lost, in this country. So thank you Andrew, and Melissa, for this wonderful, gift.

What I like about this book is that it was written before these cases were heard and concluded. It'd be interesting to read this book retrospectively years after these cases have been concluded and judgement passed

Absolutely Right!! I thought I was the only person looking at these issues! Given the experience of 2020 forward I haven't really seen anyone discussing the literal elephant in the room, ie Republicans refusing to accept free and fair election results AND the likelihood of Congressional GQPers then refusing to certify the electoral college votes. It feels asymmetrically diabolical, like we've allowed ourselves to be suckerd into playing a game, with clear, concise rules and neutral referees, all while the other team openly states, pre-game, that the rules aren't the rules OR the rules don't apply to them OR they'll use party wide lying about the rules/laws, ad nauseum. It is the asymmetrical nature of this that infuriates me!! Agreeing to the rules is quite literally a REQUIREMENT to play in the game,..... and yet, here we are. I fear that this has already gone way too far. A significant percentage of the country is delusional with regard to partisan political affiliation. Trump didn't just twist and warp old school conservatives, he freed many who can now be vile and racist in public. Most importantly though he attracted a small segment of the fringe that heretofore remained outside the political discourse tent altogether. This group is the toxic mix of white supremacists, Christian nationalist and anarchist bomb-throwers. These folks are the proverbial "my way or the highway" compromise=cowardice, etc, etc.
We need to be prepared for the worst case scenario, that the events of January 6, 2021, tragic as they were, serve as prologue to what comes next, and they don't care about "actually" winning an election to engage. All they need is enough people to be willing to lie and say they won. I know none of us want to have to think about this shit, but we must become they are counting on our exhaustion, our despair as we watch our high courts fail to hold Trump accountable. If this is going to end once and for all, WE will have to be the ones to end it.
      Vote for Joe Biden 2024🇺🇸🔵🇺🇸🔵🇺🇸🔵🇺🇸🔵🇺🇸🔵

To Mr Weissmann: Thank you so much for your recent brave, unabashed comments on the corrupt aspects of our legal system. I in no way mean to diminish your colleagues like Mellissa Murray or Mary McCord, but you seem to have really taken the gloves off when it comes to your comments on the abuse the system inflicts on those without power, position or wealth. As a retired psychotherapist, I know the most powerful thing I ever gave a client was validation of the abuse they had suffered. Through your recent comments, you have given me, and I’m sure so many others, hope for the future. When the public knows there are honorable people like yourself and your distinguished colleagues in places of influence and justice, it helps us all to carry on. Your kindness and honor emanates from the screen. A bit of humble advice, you have a wonderful sense of humor that you should use more often in your appearances. God bless you, your family, friends and colleagues.

As a 64 years old Brit, this show is literally outstanding. It's everything that I needed to garner sufficient knowledge surrounding the Trump/ "MAGA" threats. Too many of the other You Tube media shows are too partisan, too extreme Left wing-ist. Bulging eyes, red-in-the-face emotionally fuelled hand-flapping / arm flailing gesticulations, raised voices/ rantings et al, are for the plebs. This discussion brings a level of easily assimilated, higher intellect, much needed to cut through the American political news media versions of the "Mad conductors of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra" types. Thank you ever so much Melissa, Andrew and, of course, Lawrence. Vote wisely come November. Trump/"MAGA" are your domestic terrorists; be damn sure of that fact.

Literally, the USA we tried to warn you that once Trump was elected there was no guarantee you would ever be rid of him. The USA bought into American Exceptionalism and condescendingly ignored the warnings of all those "lesser" countries not realising they are the exact same, susceptible to the same nationalism and weakness we outside the USA all tried to warn them about.

Re: Prof. Murray discussing SCOTUS taking a case on cert, paraphrasing, 'with 6, they can lose one and still have the 5 needed'.
I worked for a state legislator. When leadership is doing a whip count on a bill that will adversely affect some members back in their districts, they let those members know they can vote "no" on this bill (almost like a conscience vote). However, SCOTUS should not behave like a legislature.
