Join Nicolle Wallace, host of MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, with veteran prosecutors Andrew Weissmann and Mary McCord on the unprecedented cases against former President Donald Trump - and their new MSNBC podcast, Prosecuting Donald Trump. Over the last several months, Americans have witnessed a dizzying series of historic court cases - a former US president indicted twice - and ongoing investigations suggesting more indictments are possible. How are we to make sense of the details and the scope of these cases? What happens when the Republican presidential front runner has been indicted for obstruction of justice? And how do prosecutors build a legal case when the defendant is a former president?
Weissmann was one of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s top deputies who oversaw the team handling Trump’s corrupt former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and McCord was the Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security at DOJ. The two will join Wallace as they break down the cases, offering a clear-eyed analysis on the scope of potential criminality, what its means for American democracy, and much more.
MSNBC’s Prosecuting Donald Trump is a weekly podcast that dissects the cases against former President Donald Trump with in-depth analysis, special guests and listener questions.
This program is part of 92NY Recanati-Kaplan Talks. Newmark Civic Life Series is generously supported by Craig Newmark Philanthropies.
Recorded September 13, 2023 at The 92nd Street Y, New York.

Huge fan of intelligent, grace and wit. I am a huge fan of civility - the norms and values embedded in and required the Constitution and the institutions of federal governance it spawned. Yes, I once took all this for granted and believed all this was definitional of what it is to be American of any political party or persuasion. But no longer.
These three in conversation bring back those lost assurances and leave me with a glimmer of hope we, as a nation, can endure as a constitutional democracy. Nothing is certain or written in stone on how we will be able to move forward as a nation w/o an eye toward the ideals signed into law Sept 1787.
Thank for reminding me of the promise of our once bright citadel on a hill. My sincerest hope is we wake up and return to responsible adulthood as a nation. 🙏🙏🙏

Absolutely not. The only thing they should be doing is giving us facts, not unfounded accusations, allegations and opinion. The FBI admitted to using an unverified Steel report for surveillance on Carter Page, even though he was an asset. Mueller said that was not enough evidence to indict Trump. The obstruction was an obstruction to an unindictable case. So how can she just say that 'there was collusion'?

From Indonesia now, Australia before, I thank you Nicole, Andrew and Mary for a most illuminating journey through this most disturbing episode in your country's history. I shook my head in bemusement in our local Bellambi pub with mates in 2015 as I watched the election unfold and saw Trump win. I had declared to Rob and Rich before the count unfolded that Trump had no chance of winning. I saw him then and see him still as nothing more than a glib conman with a puddle's depth of morality. I vehemently declared that no country could ever allow such a person to become its leader. I got that wrong. Not only for your country's sake but also for our world's sake I fervently hope that he is not elected again. America has such an important role in our world. His re-election would be a disaster not only for you Americans but also for we non-Americans. Biden's age versus Trump's insanity (that chosen without hyperbole) - is there really a choice?

Not quite. At most, 30% of Repub. voters categorize as MAGA cult members. The rest of US voting population have a grasp of our crucial turning point. The greatest concerns are the domestic terrorists' threat of intimidation and violence toward potential jurors and witnesses. Craven Repub. politicians and voters may crater to the minority out of fear. But there are enough Dems, Independents, Never Trumpers, and party 'swing ' voters, to prevent the catastrophic future of a repeat traitorous president. Most importantly is the power that knowledge of facts provides our citizens.

When Andrew Weissman and Mary McCord started appearing on MSNBC, I thought, "You spent the first half of your career in government service. You can now make very good money. We probably won't be seeing too much of you on TV." I'm pleased to be wrong about that.

I guess there is no way Judge Aileen Cannon has to remove herself even though she has a conflict of interest in this case? It seems as though she should have to be removed for obvious reasons.

Why don't we drop an Apple Air Tag into Trump's pocket, send him to negotiate peace with Putin (he says would take him only 24 hours), and when his Tag stops moving, send a cruise missile to that GPS location and solve 2 problems at one time!
