Thanks a bunch. Im on the 3rd day of ownership of this little booger and she is a nice one. You cleared that Skip function right up. What in the world was Yaesu thinking with this volume knob function? If it werent for THAT this would be perfect!!!

Good tips Richard. I use the “hold when busy” option to good effect. Another frequency worth scanning is 145.800 listening out for the ISS overhead.

Nice work Richard hope the tips come in hand to some people. I might have a look to see if I can pick the frequencies up you mentioned at the start. 👍🏻

I bought one of these 3 weeks ago. First got digital on a Portsmouth repeater. Just used the repeater app on phone, stuck the numbers in by hand, closest thing, 3.5 miles or so. worked, See the callsign on the screen, nice. Got the 2 digital calling channels in mine, PMR (listen as the /marine channels, that is a lot!). Not modded by resistor removal under the rubber bung so just listen. By Oxford, Marine a bit pointless here, Sat and did on the computer program all the channels. All simplex, Repeaters within 30 miles. about 172 channels or so. Got in memory banks. Simplex, calling (all 4 of them), PMR, marine. repeaters, 1 group called holiday, Will add local repeaters before I go, stick into Holiday bank. The 2 digital calling channels a waste of time. Me low down in Oxfordshire not help but done some high points out on the bike, see 25 miles. Coming back from a Portsmouth jolly, dodgy 40 feet up a cliff, old WW2 radio station thing explore on here in my YT. High up there, nothing. People may listen but not have a Yaesu. Even calling channels dead these days. Shame no one use 2m/70cm. Had in 1994 first time round, did ok. Now back after 18 years or so years. back 2017. All changed, it seems ignored, getting anyone on a repeater, not much :( on QRZ, G7TRV. Scan on Busy. Now changed to 10 seconds.

Thanks again, Richard...I'd just never got round to looking at the skip function! Another use for it is where there's a frequency prone to QRM from computer equipment etc. in skme locations, it's a nuisance when it constantly triggers on each scan cycle. Don't think I've ever heard anything on 144.6125 though I've tried the beaconing function a few times; though I have used C4FM for some nice simplex QSOs it's been a CQ call on the calling channel, realise both ends have Fusion and change mode. 73, Simon G0CIQ

some icoms have the option to skip for 5,15 or 30 minutes the that Mem channel gets added back into the scan. So handy yet Yaesu doesn't seem to ever add that option.

thanks for your video. What do you think of using the memory banks to store the frequencies you want to scan ?

The SKIP option is very useful in the Yaesu scanning mode. Some of the DMR handies like the Ailunce HD1 allow for multiple scan lists, so you can setup different groups of your memory channels to scan depending on your interest.
Scanning is also very useful when in the vehicle having one of the VFO's looping around a group of channels whilst the other is tending to your APRS needs.

Disappointed due to no digital fusion repeaters near Filton/Patchway Bristol
