Dallas had a great year. Disappointed it stopped in the same place as last year. It really seems as though they need more physicality. Vegas, Colorado, and Edmonton all played this team hard physically and it seemed to take a toll.
Regarding Suter and Lundkvist, I would rather see Petrovic and if Bichsel can make the line up. Want Tanev back in this roatation. Think Sam Steel would be great to bring back for bottom six. Doubt this team can do anything about Benn, Seguin, or Suter. The contracts are just there.
Look forward to the offseason and want to see this team excel in 2025.

Agree, sort of. The Stars have gotten bigger and more physical each year, and competed better vs the bigger more physical teams like Vegas. We ABSOLUTELY dished Vegas as much or more than they could dish us, this year. But we also WATCHED Colorado and Edmonton skate circles around our net. You cannot get much bigger or more physical without risking getting SWEPT by smaller faster teams in the playoffs. Its a balance, and they are close to perfect ALREADY.
Also: We were GASSED in the WCF, and it showed. Who gets gassed quicker? The big beefy guys who burn more energy just to move all that weight, or the small, quick guys with endless stamina? You know the answer. Again, it's a balance and too big is a loser as much as too small is. We are right where we need to be. So why did we lose?
Well you always want a mix of Veterans and Kids, but our Veterans are getting too old. They didn't produce. And we can across the board replace them with kids, because, at this point, Guys like Miro, Hintz, and Robertson AREN'T the kids anymore - they are the veterans!
Shorter version: A mix of YOUNGER veterans and kids will be better next year, than our current mix of OLDER veterans and kids was.
The only part that really hurts is not seeing Pavelski get a Cup here. I hope he gets a job in the organization, so he can still help us win a Cup in the future!

more physical aka bigger typically means slower. That is not what this team needs. With a reliable 3rd pair the top 4 would not have looked so worn out in the WCF. Suter and Petrovic aren’t it.

This hurt alot.. it was a great season though. It hasn't been too rough as a stars fan going to the finals in 2020 and back to back conference finals the last 2 years. We could have it alot worse. The Stars will be back. I trust the organization in that they know the team is very close and they will make the proper moves to put themselves back in the hunt again next year.

I watched every Stars game in the playoffs. When they're off, they're off. But when they're playing good, they rank easily amongst the top teams in the league. Agree: this team is facing a great future.

    • @Eirhead888
      @Eirhead888 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Their drafting is quite possibly the best in the league. Hintz and Robertson were both second round picks; Johnston is looking like the best player in his draft class and they snagged him at 23rd; Perhaps they could have taken Makar instead of Heiskanen... but now that Heiskanen has arrived, it's not looking like much of a drop-off. Oettinger another amazing pickup through the draft. It's just too bad a lot of their big money vets are under-performing their contracts or looking old in the playoffs (Pavelski, Duchene, Suter). The whole "deepest team in the league" thing ain't no joke.
But as their old guys run out their contracts, their young guys are going to end up taking most of that money and it's probably not going to leave them a lot of cap space to hire any superstars or anything... they'll just have to fill out the roster with solid depth guys. And as a result, they're not going to have the star power of teams like Colorado and Edmonton, who I can foresee giving them fits over the next 5 years.

As a Stars fan, we had plenty of depth, but that depth didnt show up in this Oilers series. Cant get blanked on the PP and then get shredded on the PK as well. The thing is, the PP is often a measure of your star power. Best PPs in the league are regularly Edmonton, Colorado and Tampa. Oh look I also just named 3 of the last 4 cup winners, and possibly 4 of the last 5 in 3 weeks from now. You can't underestimate the impact of star power.
Dallas has a really good team tho. They're just a little closer to the Vegas model than they are the Edmonton/Tampa/Colorado model. Perhaps if Benn came down with some major health issue that would put him on LTIR til April, that would be the layup the Stars would need to win a cup.

Its tough to beat the last 2 Cup winners in consecutive series and have nothing to show for it. In the end that might've been Dallas' downfall. Even though Edmonton played a tough series against Vancouver, I dont think anyone would argue they had a much easier time on their way to the Conference Finals. And more fortunate not having to face Demko.
Having the core is the hard part but its clear the Stars already have that. Now they just need to put the right players around those guys. They'll def be back and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win a Cup in the next 3-5 years.

Oilers had it pretty easy, even Vancouver was not nearly as good as the Avalanche and Knights. Stars got
Multiple injuries and were beaten down by long series while Oilers got a measure first series and an easier second series that was only pushed due to Skinner having poor games.

Looking forward to next season. The biggest eye opener in this series is that we need to get better playing and making passing decisions while being harassed. That needs to be a practice item that they hammer over and over again until players start building some comfort with it. Too many times we made terrible passes when Edmonton skaters got close to us and threatened our safe space/ bubble LOL. Harley needs to do better at supporting the attack. Over and over again he skated out of the offensive zone immediately without trying to keep pucks in the zone when you could clearly tell he would have been able to keep the puck in the zone. That screams "fear of making mistakes" and or lack of confidence. Finally the Stars NEED to embrace BIG HITS in the Playoffs. I saw way to many "love tap" hits against Edmonton and that probably helped Edmonton feel comfortable since they weren't worried about being laid out. Lets get the Cup in 2025. Go Stars!

A step behind by a little bit is putting it generously. With all due respect to his great career, but Pavelski looked awful all playoffs. He was so much slower than almost everyone in all 3 rounds. And since he really only had way of scoring, it was really easy for opposition to shut him down.
Thank god theres only 1 year left of suffering Suter. Letting Hakenpaa walk is also fine, ive seen enough of him as well. Duchene, take him or leave him. He had the big series winner in Colorado, and did good in the regular season but again kind of a no show when games mattered. Tanev... he played well but hes 34 and he gets hurt a lot. Wouldn't mind him staying at the right price but if another team overpays, its best to move on.
As for Benn. Hes thankfully, only got 1 more year on that big contract. I dont mind him staying beyond that, at a much much lower price, but if he does... this year should be his last as Captain. Obviously, that's a delicate thing, but with 1 year remaining, now is the time to ask him respectfully to use this last year to transition to someone else.
I think he made up for his insane stupidity last year against Vegas. But THG touched on it last night. I think of all the critical games where he just disappeared. The moment got too big for him, and it happened again last night. There's always talk of what a great leader he is, but that shrinking can be contagious to a locker room.
To end on a positive the kids look great and hopefully they grow even more next season. Hopefully Lian also continues the streak of great draft picks. They may lack experience but they got that youthful heart that allows them to play without fear. Need more of that i think to take that next step.

To me it came down to a few things this season:
    1) Too many vets. They were gassed in the Edmonton series (understandably so after having to beat Vegas + Colorado).
    2) A very shaky 3rd D pairing (the Lundkvist experiment failed & Suter is too old to play D in the NHL).
    3) They rode Miro too hard… AGAIN. If he’s fresher (even 3-4 less minutes) he becomes a bigger offensive threat.
    4) Harley, Duchene, & Roope were super quiet.
I think Tanev stays, Duchene goes, Harley gets 5+ million yearly, Lundvkist goes, Steel stays, Smith goes, Hakanpaa goes, Wedgie stays, Bourque becomes full time NHL next year, and (prays) they ship Suter to a lowly team for 1.5ish Million and just eat the rest.
    Go Stars!

Regarding BeDoer, I will take a smart systems guy that can consistently get you deep runs any day. This team can play so many ways and be effective and that was all DeBoer. When you get deep in the playoffs it's really on the players to play with the intensity and hunger that can close it out. Falling short in the Edmonton series was due to a couple games where they didn't bring their best game. That's on the guys on the ice, not the coach.

    Buy out Suter.

  • @Finis08

Bit of a long post incoming. Out of all the free agents, they really need to find a way to keep Tanev. Harley's deal is going to get done and due to the drop in offense in the second half it may even be at a more team-friendly deal. I feel like Pavelski is going to retire but honestly, if the guy says he wants to come back how do you tell him no. If he does I think you get an even more team friendly deal then his current contract and you have to manage his games played. Asking a 40-year-old to play 82 games and still have energy to produce in the playoffs would be a plan for failure. Jani Hakanpää possibly doesn't get an extension as I just don't feel he performed to the level expected of him but that does open a big hole to fill through other means. Please, for the love of god just move on from Nils Lundkvist. With Duchene, I really like everything he bring to the team but I feel he might end up as the odd man out. He almost completely disappeared in the playoffs, minus one very meaningful goal against Colorado, but I would still really like to see him back if they can get an appropriate contract. As far as coaching I feel DeBoer did well with what he had. Injuries after going through a very difficult and physical first 2 rounds definitely took a toll. Interested to see what everyone was dealing with once injury reports come out. I would have liked to see the coaching staff at least try to change things up on the powerplay instead of just continuing to run a car into a brick wall expecting a different result but overall DeBoer fits really well with this team and likely won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Obviously very disappointed with how the season ended with the complete lack of performance in the biggest moments of the WCF, not to downplay how well Edmonton played to ensure no easy route to get things going was given, but still a hell of a season. As long as they don't manage to screw it up the future is very bright in Dallas.

  • @rafangirl1

I know Suter wants a Cup before retiring, but at this point, he NEEDS to retire. During the regular season, when Suter was paired with Miro Heiskanen, he held Miro back. Lots of games poor Miro had to play for both of them, because Suter's legs just can't carry him across the ice anymore. I kind of feel the same way about Pav, but I think Joe brings something to the locker room that might be worth a one-year contract. Lundkvist needs to go. His occasional flashes of decent play were too few and far between. I like Haki a lot and if he gets knee surgery ASAP, I would like to see him come back to the Stars.
