+DementedDoom That is a Master Cutlery Jungle Machete, usually found on Amazon for $20-30.
Machetes are my fave type of cutting tool. Then again I am Filipino.
My friend is Salvadorian and the way he LOVES his machetes makes me question my own love for my children.
I'm from El Salvador, in the countryside it's common to see people walking around with machetes, I had one as a kid, it was a small one, but I felt so proud to have my own
Do you need a permit to own one
Sergio Robles no
Nice video. One of my favorite tools around the yard is a $10 14" Tramontina machete. Apparently the contractors who made repairs on my house after a fire liked it too, because it left with them, along with the sheath I made for it. :/ I finally replaced it recently. Have a larger Martindale that I use for edging. When the zompocalypse comes, I want those with me. ;)
I remember when I was way early teens, maybe before teens, walking into the local hardware store and seeing a machete. Actually bought it, and back then they had no trouble selling it to me. Been an advocate very since.
Goat Moag I haven't been able to buy myself a machete but my father bought one years ago when I was younger, he gifted it to me and I have been enjoying it so far.
Just read Bush Camping Tools and your comments. "A machete is a survival tool too" That is a very true statement. More like in tropical areas it is the ultimate survival tool. In tropical areas it is better then an axe, a knife, or a gun to have.
I had a few moments to watch a video and found one of yours. I ended up watching another and another. I'm going to subscribe. Thanks for the well informed, quality work.
Being from Puerto Rico, a Tropical Island on the Caribbean, and also a Latin culture with Spanish heritage, you can imagine how common a machete is. EVERY single household will have machetes. Machetes are both immortal and self-replicating. A broken machete will just yield two different knives. All you need is a $8.00 machete, a .99 cent file, a piece of 400 grit sandpaper and your good old grandpa's leather belt to make a razor sharp cutting tool. This video is amazing.
I just ordered my first machete/weapon. Ordered the cold steel cutlass machete and really excited to get it in!
I had one about weightlifting almost 2 years ago. It basically said to do hammer curls, barbell bicep curls, wide and close grim pull-downs (some behind the back, some in front), peck presses with the bar, and then variations of dumbells flys, some at incline. I did not really have any nutrition videos, except one that basically said stay away from soda and the like.
I've actually had a Hawkchette for about a month now, it is a lot more flexible than I thought it would be from the picture. Definitely going to beat it up and review it eventually.
Yes machetes are definantly quite affordable not to mention it can cut just as well as any sword could if not better.
Yes I will. I just got the edge re-profiled. I'll definitely review it but not sure when.
Machetes are so under-rated in the blades world: They are cheap and still extremely powerful, and on top of that they get all kinds of work done! Every person should own at least one machete, and carry it around. I have started my machetes collection recently. Can you please make a video about Truper machetes?
No get a Tramontina!!! 20 bucks with a sheath at Lowe's for the tramontina 18 inch. Still considered one of the best machetes of all time. Needs the edge tuned when you get it, but that little Brazilian machete will hold a damn fine edge and do a lot of work. I'm on my second one now. My grandfather gave me one when I was a kid and at that time it was already older than I am at 31 now, that was almost 20 years ago and my dad has it now still going strong!!! Awesome after being in my family almost 50 years!!!
I'd go with the Condor. Also, for a versatile machete, the CS Jungle Machete, it is not too short or too long, and not too light but not too heavy.
Oh the Master Cutlery machete is pretty heavy, at least as heavy as the heavy duty machetes to the right of it. Haven't weighed it exactly, but it's like a quarter inch thick. I show a little of a close up view of it in my next machete video coming up. There are 3 machetes in the Master Jungle line, so I will probably review them all ad a group one day. I'll check out the Spetznas Shovel too!
Thanks so much for making this series! Ive recently been watching your machete videos and been wanting more information. Keep it up!
You can usually find them for around $165, yes I think it is worth it, although Cold Steel's version is more a weapon than tool because they do the grind and edge differently.
holy cow!!! now that's a collection!!! I have a huge piece of steel on the way specifically to make a kukri, keep your eye open :)
that one that's 7th from the right, its a thing of beauty
I love cheap machetes, I just got a couple that were $6 each. My friend has a business refurbishing machetes, or putting edges onto cheap ones that come with no edge.
I have a stone than came free with one, it's about 7-8 inches in length, it works pretty well, sometime I use a file as a honing steel. If the edge needs re-profiling I have my friend use his belt sander to set a new bevel.
As I am watching this video again, I am also watching "The Raid: Redemption" on DVD and they just happen to be in a scene where like 8 guys are fighting in a hallway with machetes. Really lets you see what machetes can do.
Oh, and I just ordered a Cold Steel 2 handed Latin machete and sheath. Be here Thursday morning! I keep seeing people bitch about it being "too thin", but according to what I see, It's thicker than my Tram.
Yes. machetes are great for short sword styles. Cold Steel Gladius and Kershaw Camp 18s are great starters for short sword stand-ins. Full tang dual wielding for less than $100 bucks.
Number 4 is the Master Cutlery Jungle Machete (but yes, it is the same as that Rambo machete but without the logo or box lol), I didn't review it yet. Number 8 is the TOPS Power Eagle, great blade.
Oh and besides the fix blades I bought a few folders in mint conditions Actually the Camillus Jim Catfish Hunter #4 has a detailed on the Brass pommel because it was dropped but other than that everything else is in excellent condition. The Schrade Scrimshaw 2 blade Barlow and the Diefenthal 409 are in the original boxes and mint. I also bought a Puma Bowie 2, it's a lower grade to the Original Bowie and that is it doesn't have a bolster. But it's handmade in Solingen, Germany and it's made in the 440c. I teamed my Puma Bowie 2 with my Gerber Freeman Hunter and the Caper both are made just like the Puma Bowie 2 and that is just the blade with Stag Slabs for tge handle and tge Steel is S30V which is a excellent match, What attracted me to the Puma Bowie 2 was it's a Saber Vex Grind and not the Hollow Grind, and besides the new White Hunters are made out of the Krupp 1.4116 stainless where my White Hunter is made in a Carbon blade with a chrome plating over the carbon, Man that holds an edge like no mannyanna. Anyhow I thought I would up date you on my finds, Yeah Oh, The Puma Bowie 2 was made in the 2nd half in 2002 and it's brand new, I mean mint. Just call'me lucky
Pretty much any of the E-toh, Dao, or Narong machetes by Aranyik that are on Amazon right now are pretty indestructible, just make sure you get the blade length that is to your preference.
I threatened a while back to order myself a real machete, instead of the stainless junk I now have, after watching your videos. I finally did it, and a good machete cost me about half of what I had paid for the stainless ones. I got a Gavilan, Colombian made, 1074, 22" machete for $10. Awaiting arrival to see if it lives up to expectations.
Sounds good, I have a Nicholson Collins brand machete made in Colombia!
If it doesn't just go to Lowe's and buy the tramontina for 20 bucks. It's the 18 inch and made in brazil
Comes with sheath too
I like me swordish machetes like that discontinued CS Spear Point.
I'm glad to see that CS is restarting production of the 18" Barong, this time with a more traditional barong handle.
I definitely like the CS 2 handed Latin Machete. I have a matched pair, yes they are a little thicker than my Brazilian machete is.
I own 4 Kukri's and a couple machetes but the best is my EGKH AEOF Kukri from Ex Gurkha Kukri house in Nepal. It's a total beast of a blade! It's almost 2 pounds of hand forged 5160 high carbon leaf spring steel with rosewood handles and it's almost an inch thick on the spine. It could probably chop any of the cheaper machetes and Kukri's on the market in half!
I have their non machete kukri and I just saw the Royal Kukri Machete become available at Knifecenter last week, I am going to get one eventually.
When travelling, most machetes are purchased prior to entering the environment from the locals as they will stock and use the style most useful for the local environment.
There is no doubt that the machete comes in many different styles and are fit for purpose and it looks like you've got them all!!
Take care, Ben
I think it just comes down to what a person focuses on in life. If a person is really into something, whether knives, guns, cars, or rare baseball cards, they'll find a way. Me personally, I never take vacations, I've never bought a new car (always used cars), and I've had the same old firearms for 20 years (they work well, just not very fancy).
Welcome! Glad you like it.
Hi, thanks for subscribing, welcome to the channel.
I am thankful to have a local shop nearby where I that sells preaty nice machetes and knives.when I bought my JM 21 jungle master it felt good that it was relatively cheap and that I actually had a good sized sharp blade that was not a wall hanger for a change like the blunt ornamental swords I have hanging around my home.
The only machete I own is old and rusty but it was my grandpa's. He was an eagle scout and carried on his expeditions in the pacific northwest.
I spend a lot of time outdoors, I'm an avid traditional archer and I prefer to hike into the back country versus riding in on a four wheeler. One of the items I take into the woods is a Cold Steel Panga.....this is the best bang for the buck! I've fillet fish, skin deer, cut potatoes, carrots and firewood. I carry a 6 inch bastard file to keep it sharp. I plan to video my coming deer hunts this season God Willing to show my techniques and woodsmanship
YAY for Condor. I've just got into there blades and have three now, and I could not be happier. My next Condor blade will be a Golok Machete.
To sum up why machetes are convenient inexpensive durable useful for many tasks and is also an improvised sword
You're welcome! You'll like them when you try them!
Yes, definitely going to review mine in the future.
I'm no expert when it comes to machetes, axes or cutlery but one big advantage of a machete over an axe is it's less tiring or cumbersome to wield and it comes in handy especially when what your cutting is relatively light and is not really the hardest wood,on the other hand even though machetes would still work a hachet or a tomahawk might be a better tool if the wood your dealing with is of a preaty hard variety.
Im the exact opposite, folders are ok, but a machete or XL Fixed blade is way more useful, the extra 11+ inches of blade seem to come in handy alot out here...
15 is sort of a fantasy design, 16 is a Barong, and 19 is an old WWII design bolo that sweeps back like a parang. The Barong can slice, chop, and thrust.
I dont know very much about knives but I have a condor village parang and I use it any time I need to chop down stuff and just do basic wood chopping and I really like that machete.
The edge on them is not too good, but once the edge is re-profiled they are really good.
That's the Woodsman's Pal, a classic design, they're sold on amazon and at knifeworks.
Thanks! Yeah, half my family is from the Philippines and machetes are very common there as well!
We use a machete in the garden to cut out the corn stalks in the late summer/early fall. For the longest time I only knew it as a "corn cutter" and some of my family still call them that. Works great, but getting old and brittle, so I am looking for a replacement. Hopefully this series will help. Thanks for the info.
Nice Collection Israel, I don't have as large of a collection as you're, I have The 22" Blackie Colins heavy duty Machete with a D-ring handle made by Ontario, a Condor Jungle Saber, I use for clearing alleys while hunting, a Cold Steel double edge, it's OK, but in my neck of the wood's I like my Becker BK-4 machaxe, you turned me unto,my Woodsman Pal, and I started using my Condor Wilderness Tool, nice little tool to set up camp, I enjoy your Vid's
Thanks for your reply, Israel! You RAWK, bro - & thanks again for sharing your blade collection, insights & experience. Cheers -
Great video. I always thought they looked cool, but I'm glad I learned about some other practical uses for these blades!
I find the Estwing Rigger's Axe/Rigbuilder Hatchet to be pretty useful, in general. I'd get that, and a heavy machete, to have options.
What's the 15th machete called from left to right?
Aranyik Latin Machete. They're coming out with a similar model this year, slightly shorter, they say.
Kult of Athena sells it, also Kris Cutlery has a site.
Hey, no I haven't ever re-tempered one, but I'm sure there's some youtube vids on it.
he didn't mention it in the video or description, but as far as a latin machete, I'd highly recommend either a Tramontina or an Imacasa.
Awesome, good kukris are hard to find. Yeah I have a feeling Aranyik will bring back that Latin design in the future, maybe in a different length, because of all the Aranyiks I have, that one is the most asked about.
I've owned a Machete since I was 10. I have the typical Latin type that looks exactly like the 5th one you have on display. Mine is made in Columbia and doesn't dink or bend up.
For the cheap ones, a belt sander and then smooth them out with a file and/or stone.
My machete brother from another mother! Putting an order into machetespecialists tonight on one I don't see here. You gotta stop tormenting me with that Aranyik Latin machete!
look up the indestructible machete from Izzy, that one has a handle that you can extend with a stick ( hollow handle) but be sure to get the one thats one piece with the blade, there is a long aranyik with a welded handle which I won't recommend to extend. so if you properly trim the stick down to fit in the handle, you won't even have to secure it with a screw or nail.
"Likes" can actually be bought on ebay, so I avoid that game. But feel free to support the sponsors, that's sort of the real "like" button.
I used to underestimate machetes, and preferred hatchets, but even a $20 - $30 Hatchet doesn't compare to a $5 - $10 especially when it comes to versatility. I've used my machete for everything from hunting rabbits and butchering chickens to making pathways and working in the garden.
Glad you like the video, buddy!
Say Heah, I have about three or so that I call Mahetes my Blackie Colin's Heavy Duty 22" d-ring O. K. C. Machete, then my Condor Jungle Saber Machete in the 420HC, a lite machete I used to make blinds. I also have a military issue 18" O. K. C. Machete and the Woodsman Pal in the premium model, Oh yeah, I have a Condor Golok in the 1075 carbon, I also have a Swamp Rat Rodent Rucki and the Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Parangatang which I bought with my Potbelly. A great pair. I use the Potbelly as a One Tool Option. A while ago I bought a cheap Case Jungle Machete Knife and right off the bad I didn't find any use for it and especially nothing to team up with it. It's a 10" blade, But in back of my mind I thought of using it as a minimum size long knife to clear a path in the brambles. Well it paid off, Last week I bought in excellent condition a Case Pawnee, But I didn't buy it with a sheath, knowing it wouldn't be hard to find a after market cheap sheath, We'll I found a original Basket Weave Sheath with the flap to snap the knife safely, Now that's, we'll just calle'me lucky, See good things for good people. It's in Giving we recieve. I give. But anyhow now I have a great Trio to continue my Afternoon Delight a hot cup of coffee on the open fire and a baked potato. All I did is added my Wooden Handle Fuskar Folding Saw and with the other C's in my make shift Haversack I'm good to go. Yeah that Case Jungle Machete Knife is full tang and suorisingly it holds a decent edge and like I saud, It's the minimum size for me to use as a Summer Ling Knife as a Machete. Thanx for sharing
Awesome. Gerber re-called the Parang due to a defect so they will probably send you a new one if you want.
Finally got me another Aranyik on the way. Ordered their E-toh("Perfect Coconut Machete") tonight, since it's a style I didn't have, and with that wood handle it'll fit right in alongside my Condors. Nothing against their hollow handles, but they definitely do not look as nice as wood, heh.
I consider my machetes to be my universal yard working tools. They can do a little of everything!
Nice bro!
Love it when you make these types of videos! Looking forward to the next ones!
Been thinking about getting me some aranyiks for a while now, and this video is definitely feeding my hunger!
Mykel Hawke has a distinct line of blades being produced by Smokey Mountain Knife Works (SMKW) which includes the "Hawkshete"... its got interesting geometry. Capt. Hawke claims its the best machete he's ever fielded - I'd enjoy your evaluation!
Good stuff. I can't wait to watch this series.
You definitely get the most knife for your money with machetes. There is just so much versatility there.
My favorite in your lineup... the one on the far right :)
Condor! The King of the Machete.
you're my new hero....
Because they are so affordable I have like 8 cheapo harbor freight machetes scattered around my house along with a few bats, a few hammers, a few linoleum knives (Thanks cuttlerylover!) and of course, dictionarys. They make a surprisingly good ranged weapon.
Great video! I cant wait till Cold Steel brings back the bowie machete.
there is something mystical about it, I imagine having a feeling of power while wielding it... or maybe if completely lost it haha
I have the kabar kukri, I got it cuz I thought it was cool, next to my edc blade it is my most used knife I'm my collection, mainly taking the role of my hatchet, it's such a great blade
I definantly love machetes.I got a JM 21 jungle master its gots a few slight problems but it's not too shabby of a blade as far as a machete goes its better than the cheap six dollar ozark trail parang I bought but even an ozark trail parang wouldn't make a bad training weapon.Ozark trial parangs don't have any edge but there is still a bit of a point you will have to sand down or something.
You got a COLLECTION dude !
When you are selecting your machete you have to be true to yourself as to what you expect from it. Is this a trail runner? Is this for cutting fire wood? is this a weapon? Chopping wood requires a straight blade. A straight blade brings the weight of the blade to bare into the wood and it chops. If you are blazing trails through light brush then a slightly backward curve is wanted with the weight forward. If it is a weapon one wants a curve to slice and the weight centered for even force through the swing. Even force prevents hang up in the slicing motion. Whatever your choice for a blade design or intent of use the most important criteria is quality of steel. Research your steel. You want steel that has strength but is malleable. Not so ductile that it bends but ridged enough that it holds an edge. The edge is held by the steel being carbon heavy yet not quenched to instill so much rigidity that it becomes brittle. To soft the edge rolls. Too hard it chips. Understand what you want out of it and that will determine the product you require.
very true good points
too many people do not understand that the quality of steel they require for a good long blade already exists in the steel that they call a leaf spring. They simply do not understand how to put that steel into action.
Cant wait till you get your hand on the 2013 Cold Steel 18" Barong Machete! Love your reviews man!
Nice video! Lots of great points, well done.
Welcome!
I love machetes, I can't wait for cold steel to release that smatchet and bowie matchete!
It's a Latin machete, for clearing trails of soft vegetation.
Nice collection!!! Check out the cold steel cutlass machete if u havent already. Its 1 bad ass blade.
Awesome, that is one of my favorites for the price.
oh wow! i found your testing video. that little blade is quite amazing! thank you for posting
When the new one comes out I will
My best machetes are 5160 carbon steel, it doesn't have any problems
I agree there's been a lot of shooting and breaking in houses I think I machete between a knife would be a great weapon if they came close so I can put bull charges then if you have a machete or a knife you can make a stop in the throat
Nice collection brother. Greetings from Puerto Rico.
I have to say that this video was excellent, It really true that in countries with strict gun law a machete come in hand as a defensive weapon. Talking about Machetes. How excited are you to see "Machete Kills" with Danny Trejo?
Welcome aboard!
There preaty affordable not to mention when you feel like you reached the time of being willing to part with them you can pawn them off.
40 yrs of use machetes.. the bolo style is most often taken for use about property. prefer older makers however tramontina and ontarios ... for the money... and quality... are two that I often take in hand.
Thank you, I'm glad it helped.
-Rambo- Machete is the Best Machete for Ever ,very good made and very universal uses 5*
Thanks, John!
